Chapter 18 Imprisonment

"Don't get too cocky." Emma spat, her anger barely contained. "One day, George is gonna find out that the baby you're carrying ain't his."

"Think anyone's gonna believe you?" Anna shot back, her eyes dripping with sarcasm. "George loves me so much that even if this baby ain't his, he'd still take it in like it's his own. And you? Even if you're carrying George's kid, so what? He doesn't want it and won't give you the chance to have it!"

Emma felt a stab in her heart and wanted to clap back but couldn't find the words. She took a deep breath, trying to keep it together. "I won't let you get away with this."

Anna's face suddenly shifted. She grabbed Emma, who was about to leave, and started bawling, sounding all pitiful.

"Emma, please, I really love George. Give him back to me."

Was this chick nuts or what?

"Emma, if you wanna hit someone, come at me, but don't hurt my baby!"

Anna suddenly screamed and let go of Emma's hand, tumbling down the stairs! Her painful cries echoed through the hospital corridor, drawing a crowd.

"That woman pushed her!" a bystander yelled, pointing right at Emma, shocking everyone.

Before Emma could react, the scene turned into a madhouse. She panicked and tried to explain, but her voice got lost in the crowd's murmurs. Just then, George showed up and shoved Emma aside.

The force knocked Emma against the railing, almost making her puke. She watched as George rushed to Anna's side, his eyes full of worry, gently holding her and whispering sweet nothings. She saw George and Anna all cozy in front of everyone.

Emma thought, 'George, why are you doing this to me?'

"I didn't push her!" Emma screamed, tears streaming down her face. "She fell on her own."

George's face was full of rage, like everything was already decided.

And then, he called the cops.

After a bit, the police showed up, heard the ruckus, and jumped into action.

They questioned the witnesses in the hospital. Since it was the peak time for prenatal checkups, there were plenty of witnesses.

Someone confidently said that Emma had pushed Anna, making her fall down the stairs. This was serious and needed harsh punishment.

The cops also checked the surveillance footage right away.

In the video, Emma and Anna were talking at the top of the stairs.

Anna looked all sweet and friendly, while Emma seemed cold and distant. They had a brief tussle, and then Anna was suddenly pushed down the stairs by Emma!

With Anna's Oscar-worthy performance, the evidence and witnesses were all against Emma, making it impossible for her to clear her name.

"Please come with me to the station," a cop said calmly.

"Why? I didn't do it!" Emma's heart sank. She tried to resist but was ultimately taken away.

As she stepped into the police car, Emma felt a wave of helplessness. Her heart was heavy, and George's words echoed in her mind, filled with despair.

At the station, Emma was thrown into a holding cell. Through the iron bars, she sat helplessly, tears streaming down her face.

The courage of an expectant mother made Emma stand up again. She was still pregnant and she couldn't be convicted. She couldn't let her child suffer with her!

She had to get out as soon as possible!
