Chapter 311 Biological Grandson

George charged into the inferno, desperate to save his sketches and the apology letters he had written. But the flames were too intense, and the smoke choked him, making it nearly impossible to breathe. He frantically searched, but everything had already been consumed by the fire.

Just as he was about to collapse, a group of firefighters burst in and dragged him out of the blaze. By the time George was rescued, he had lost consciousness, his face covered in soot and tears.

The firefighters placed him on a stretcher and rushed him to the hospital.

From a distance, Emma watched everything unfold, a complex mix of emotions flickering in her eyes before she regained her composure.

That fire, she had avenged and returned to George.

She thought to herself, 'George, how does it feel to be burned?'

Michael gently took her hand. "Don't think too much about it. He brought this on himself. Let's go, there's nothing more to see here."

Emma nodded, squeezing Michael's hand tightly. "Yeah, it's all over now."

The two turned and walked away, their silhouettes stark against the glow of the fire.

In the hospital, George slowly regained consciousness. Staring at the ceiling, he murmured, "Emma, I'm sorry, it's all gone."

Everything he had poured his heart and soul into was now lost in the flames. And Emma, she would never come back to him.

From afar, Emma stood at the end of the hospital corridor.

When she learned that George's burns were not severe and that he could be discharged after some simple treatment, her eyes grew even colder.

Emma contemplated, 'George, why do you always get so lucky? If you can't die, then live in pain!'

Sophia opened the door to the hospital room just as George was sending the 47th unread text to Emma.

"George, how are your injuries? What did the doctor say?"

George replied, "Nothing serious, just inhaled some smoke. I'll be fine after a few days of rest."

Sophia nodded, a hint of hesitation in her eyes. "George, there's something else I need to discuss with you."

Sophia was unsure how to broach the subject. If she asked for custody of Lucas now, it would be like adding insult to injury for George.

But the Russell family was in such a state, and Lucas was Anna's child. The Russell family wouldn't accept him.

Rather than let Lucas suffer with the Russells, it would be better for him to stay with her. Although Anna wasn't her biological daughter, she had always treated Lucas as her own grandson. Perhaps it was psychological, but she always saw a bit of young Emma in Lucas.

For her, it was a form of solace.

George said, "Go ahead."

"I want Lucas to stay with me. Can you agree to that? I know how much you despise Anna, but I can't bear to part with Lucas." Sophia hesitated.

Lucas?

Yes, he still had Lucas!

As the monitor beeped, he looked up to see Lucas clutching his toy, his fingers trembling. Lucas always rubbed his earlobe when he was nervous, just like Emma.

The oxygen mask suddenly fogged up, and George ripped out the IV, blood droplets splattering on Sophia's designer suit. But neither Sophia nor George paid any attention to the small mess.

George leaped from the bed and hugged Lucas tightly.

After a long moment, he released Lucas and carefully examined his face.

Lucas's features bore traces of both him and Emma. Those clear eyes were just like Emma's, while the slightly upturned corners of his mouth mirrored George's own.

How had he not noticed these obvious traits before?

"Lucas," George whispered, reaching out to gently touch Lucas's cheek, as if confirming it was all real.

Lucas looked up at George, a hint of confusion in his eyes. "Dad, what's wrong?"

George said with a smile, "Lucas, I'm just so happy."

Lucas didn't fully understand George's emotions, but he felt the warmth and love. He reached out his small hand and hugged George's neck, his voice innocent and sincere. "Dad, I'm happy to see you too. If you could take better care of yourself and not get sick so often, that would be even better."

George's heart melted instantly. He hugged Lucas tightly, pouring all his love and regret into the embrace.

"Lucas, I'm sorry. I didn't take good care of you before, but from now on, I will love you and protect you even more."

Lucas nestled in George's arms, feeling the beat of his heart. A satisfied smile spread across his small face. "Dad, you're the best. I want to be with you forever. And with Mom too."

Lucas paused, then added, "It's Isabella, not Anna."

This was a request George couldn't fulfill.

He could stay with Lucas forever, raise him, but he couldn't ask Emma to do the same. Emma hated him to the core; there was no way she would ever come back to him.

"Lucas, remember, you only have one mom, and that's Isabella," George said firmly. Lucas tilted his head, not fully understanding, but he was happy that George agreed to Isabella being his mom.

However, Sophia caught the unusual meaning in George's words. "George, what do you mean by that?"

George replied, "I mean, Isabella is Lucas's biological mother."

"But..."

Isabella had been in Sunterra all this time. How could she be Lucas's biological mother? What was going on?

Sophia was utterly confused.

George's expression grew complex, and his voice tinged with pain. "Emma isn't dead. She is Isabella. Three years ago, she faked her death to escape from me. Now she's back, and Lucas is her son, but he was stolen by Anna."

"Emma is alive? How is that possible? Why would she do that?" Sophia's eyes widened.

George said painfully, "It was all my fault. I didn't cherish her, and she suffered too much because of me."

It wasn't just George's fault. Sophia was to blame too.

They had driven Emma to her death together!

Sophia choked up, not knowing what to say. Emma was alive, and Lucas was her son. It was all too sudden.

"Where is Emma? I need to see her!"

Sophia was about to rush out of the room but suddenly stopped. She desperately wanted to see Emma, but she was afraid Emma wouldn't want to see her.

After all the unforgivable things she had done to Emma, how could she possibly face her now?
