Chapter 263 Judgment
Emma owned the restaurant, and from the moment she found out Lyanna was the one poisoning people, she started taking precautions and investigating Lyanna. Naturally, she couldn't ignore anyone connected to her, which led her to learn about Asher.
So, when Asher deliberately approached her, Emma had already decided his fate.
Even though Asher helped her humiliate Anna, Emma still remained wary of him. Such a ruthless person was too dangerous to keep around; it was better to eliminate him as soon as possible.
Sophia quickly arrived at the hospital. She stood at the door of the hospital room, looking through the transparent glass at Anna's pale, helpless face. Anna's limbs were tied to the bed, making her look like an innocent bird trapped in a cage.
Sophia's heart ached, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
"Anna, it's Mom. I'm here with you," Sophia's voice trembled as she tried to appear strong, but her tears betrayed her courage.
Anna turned her head slightly, a glimmer of recognition in her eyes, but it was quickly drowned by endless despair. Her lips moved slightly, as if she wanted to say something, but no sound came out. At that moment, Sophia's heart felt like it was being torn apart. She wanted to rush in, hold Anna tightly, and tell her everything would be okay.
However, the guards stood coldly at the door, their expressions indifferent as they prevented her from getting closer.
"Sorry, Mrs. Stuart, you can't enter the room. Please wait outside."
"But she's my daughter!" Sophia's voice was almost pleading, filled with despair and anger. "I can't just stand here and watch her suffer!"
The police remained calm, seemingly unaffected by her emotions. "It's the rules. We can't let you in. Please understand."
Sophia leaned weakly against the wall, feeling utterly helpless. She knew Anna's condition was complicated, with many hidden secrets behind it. She had to find a way to save Anna. No matter how difficult the road ahead, she would never give up.
'Anna, wait for me. I will bring you home,' she silently vowed.
However, the law did not give Sophia that chance.
A team of police officers suddenly burst into the hospital room, their faces stern as they surrounded Anna. They quickly lifted her, treating her like a useless doll, without any regard for her feelings.
"Where are you taking me?" Anna's voice was weak.
"To court! The evidence is conclusive. You are the murderer of Molly."
It turned out that Emma had sent the video of Molly's death to the police.
As the evidence surfaced, the police confirmed that Anna was indeed the murderer of Molly.
With the investigation deepening, the police found more evidence, including past records and witness testimony from Emma years ago. All the evidence pointed to Anna, ruthlessly revealing an unknown truth—the killer was Anna.
After the investigation, the court decided to hold a trial immediately, leading to the scene where Anna and Sophia were separated.
Anna was taken away, and Sophia stood there in shock. Although she had seen the video, she had always told herself it was fake. But now, even the police were telling her that Molly was indeed killed by Anna.
How could this be?
Why was life so cruel to her, not even leaving her one daughter?
Sophia was at a loss, and the police quickly took Anna away. By the time Sophia came to her senses and tried to chase after them, the police car had already driven off.
Sophia gathered her thoughts. No matter how Molly died, she couldn't lose Anna. So, she would do everything in her power to save Anna!
Anna had been taken to court, but there was still a chance.
Sophia was frantic, running around trying to find a top-notch lawyer for Anna. She knew that facing such serious charges, only a strong defense could give Anna a chance at life. However, to her surprise, every lawyer she contacted refused her request without hesitation.
"Sorry, Mrs. Stuart, we can't take this case." Each time she heard this, her despair deepened. She understood that these lawyers weren't refusing because of money, but because Anna's crimes had been exposed by Emma. They didn't want to aid a criminal, preferring to forgo the hefty fee rather than defend a murderer.
"Is there no one willing to defend my daughter?" Sophia's voice was filled with helplessness and anger. She thought Anna didn't do it on purpose, but her past actions had made everyone fear her.
After countless attempts and disappointments, Sophia finally found a lawyer willing to take the case. His name was Cassius Blackwood, a well-known figure in the industry, but he was someone who only cared about money. Sophia spent a fortune, nearly exhausting all her resources, to secure his services.
"I don't care about your morals. As long as the money is there," Cassius's attitude was cold, his eyes gleaming with a desire for money, showing no concern for the case's ethical implications. Sophia felt a pang of disappointment, but she had no other choice and had to pin her hopes on Cassius.
"Please, you must get a fair result for my daughter!" Sophia pleaded, her eyes filled with hope and despair.
"I'll do my best, but I can't promise anything," Cassius's tone remained indifferent, as if he didn't care about Anna's fate.
Sophia continuously provided Cassius with evidence and clues, hoping to get a reduced sentence for Anna. But Cassius merely took the money without even looking at the evidence, following Sophia to the court.
In court, the prosecutor mercilessly presented all the evidence, and the judge's voice was firm. "Defendant Anna, for the crime of premeditated murder, you are sentenced to death, to be carried out immediately."
Anna sat in the defendant's seat, her face growing paler, her eyes filled with fear and despair. She felt utterly helpless, unable to understand how she had ended up here. She wanted to defend herself, but no matter how hard she tried, nothing could change the harsh reality.
"I didn't kill her! It wasn't intentional!" she finally shouted, her voice filled with desperation and helplessness.
However, the judge's verdict was like a sharp blade, mercilessly cutting off her hope.
