Chapter 39 New job

Emma's bloodshot eyes locked onto the jar Anna tossed high into the air. She tried to get up and catch it, but a thug stomped on her back, pinning her down hard.

Anna smashed the jar with a force that made it shatter on impact. White powder scattered everywhere, like a million stars falling in the dark.

"Why are you doing this?" Emma's voice cracked with anguish, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably. She collapsed to the ground, trembling hands trying to gather the scattered powder, her heart breaking into a million pieces.

"This is what happens to your kid. Your kid is already dead!" Anna's voice was ice-cold and merciless, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction as she soaked in Emma's despair.

"You wicked woman!" Emma screamed, her heart filled with rage and hopelessness. Everything around her seemed to crumble in an instant. Her spirit was on the verge of shattering, unable to bear such a blow.

Just then, George walked in, his brow furrowing slightly at the sight of Emma.

"Emma? What's she doing here?"

"George, I don't want to treat Emma like this, but thinking about our dead kid makes me so sad."

She justified her actions against Emma with a seemingly righteous reason.

George looked incredulously at the crazed woman before him. He thought to himself, 'Was this really Emma?'

"What are you doing here?" His voice was impatient, as if he thought Emma was here to cause trouble for Anna again.

"How could you be so heartless to our child?" Emma's voice was filled with despair and rage, her eyes shining with helplessness and despair, her heart full of accusations against him.

"Have you gone stupid from being in prison for too long?" George's face turned cold instantly, his eyes filled with confusion and disbelief as he said, "We don't have a kid."

"What do you mean?" Emma's heart jolted as if struck heavily, despair and pain intertwining. She couldn't believe that the person she once loved so deeply could be so heartless.

He had completely erased the existence of their child.

"What do you want now?" George's tone was cold, his eyes filled with disdain and disgust, as if she were an insignificant being. "Emma, do you think three years in prison was too short? If you want to go back, just tell me. Stop harassing Anna!"

"You don't care about me and my child at all!" Emma's voice was filled with despair and helplessness.

The love she once had for him completely disappearing, turning into endless pain and anger.

"Stop talking nonsense." George's attitude was ruthless as he drove Emma away without mercy, as if she were just an insignificant passerby.

Damn Anna!!

"George, let's go. Today is our baby's second birthday. Don't keep Mom and Dad waiting too long."

Anna spoke sweetly, taking George's arm and turning away.

Emma's heart felt like it was being cut by a knife.

How ironic!

Today was also the second birthday of her deceased baby.

George gently supported Anna's waist as they left together, leaving Emma standing alone, her heart filled with endless pain and despair.

Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, her heart filled with unbearable pain, as if the whole world were against her. Emma collapsed weakly to the ground. The dreams of these years should come to an end!

Emma set up a small tombstone for her child next to Douglas's grave. With Douglas accompanying her, she wouldn't be lonely, right?

Emma thought to herself, 'Don't worry, baby. Mommy will avenge you!'

In Lakeside Haven, no one dared to trouble George and Anna. But they were the murderers of Emma's child, and Emma had to seek revenge.

Emma needed to figure out how to get her revenge, but she knew one thing for sure: she had to stand tall on this thorny path to avenge herself and her lost child.

Two days later, Emma started her new job. With some facial injuries still healing, she used concealer to hide the wounds.

As soon as she arrived at the company, before she could even settle in, her boss Ember Stone called her in.

Ember was an elite, dressed to the nines, working meticulously, and exuding a powerful aura. But she was kind to Emma, often offering encouragement and support.

"Emma, today's report was well done," Ember said with a slight smile, her eyes shining with approval.

"Thank you," Emma replied, feeling a warmth in her heart.

But things took a turn in the afternoon. Emma overheard Ember talking with colleagues in the cafeteria, and a wave of unease washed over her. She moved closer, trying to hear clearly.

"Did you know? Emma has been to prison and was a prostitute," Ember's voice carried a hint of glee, as if she enjoyed the gossip.

"I heard she even plagiarized someone else's work!" The colleagues' voices were filled with surprise and curiosity, seemingly intrigued by Emma's past.

Emma's heart sank, her face turning pale. She couldn't believe that the boss she had respected was talking about her like this behind her back, ruthlessly exposing her past.

"I feel disgusted that a woman with a criminal record is working in our department," another colleague said with a sneer, his eyes filled with mockery.

"Then why hire her?"

"Because our leader specifically named her for the position. Otherwise, I wouldn't even look at her, she's so dumb."

Emma's heart raced. Who was the leader Ember mentioned? She recalled seeing Anna at the company entrance that day. Could this be a company under the Stuart family?

It must be. From Ember's words, it was clear they had Anna's style. Emma couldn't believe the company had nothing to do with Anna. Only Anna would constantly spread Emma's past and disgrace.

But such slander no longer hurt Emma. She calmly walked over, and the two women eating with Ember paused awkwardly, signaling Ember with their eyes.

But Ember continued, "I also heard that Emma drugged Mr. Russell to climb into his bed. How despicable! I could never do such a thing. Only a prostitute like her would be so shameless!"

She kept cursing, suddenly noticing her colleagues' strange expressions. She turned and saw Emma standing behind her.

"Emma, have you finished what I assigned you? Why are you standing behind me?" Ember's tone carried a hint of disdain, seemingly unconcerned by her presence.

"Don't you need to explain to me?" Emma slightly raised the corner of her mouth, "You're such a two-faced idiot, saying one thing to my face and another behind my back."

"Do you still want to work here?!" Ember's attitude was cold, her eyes filled with disdain.

"No." Emma threw her work badge at Ember's face, "Who cares?"

"You!" Ember's face turned livid with anger, pointing at Emma, unable to speak.

Emma couldn't be bothered with her, walking through the crowd towards the cafeteria door. She saw two women supporting each other, Anna and Sophia.

Sophia, like the others, looked at Emma with disdain, making her heart sink.

For some reason, she desperately wanted to prove herself in front of Sophia, to make Sophia like her. But in this situation, Emma knew the more she said, the more mistakes she would make.

Better to keep quiet and stay away.

Emma wanted to leave, but Anna wouldn't let her. She thought Emma wasn’t embarrassed enough yet. How could she leave now?
