Chapter 121 Giving Up
"George, don't listen to his crap. I don't even know this guy. This is the first time I've seen him!"
"Are you sure?" George's eyes narrowed dangerously.
"I'm sure," Anna said, her voice shaky.
"But how come I remember you saying three years ago that he was Emma's ex? You also mentioned they lived together for a while, and Emma even had an abortion for him." George's words hit Anna like a ton of bricks. She couldn't recall saying that, but George's memory was crystal clear.
Anna quickly tried to backtrack. "I'm sorry, George. I love you so much that I only think about you, so I forgot about these people. Yes, he's Emma's ex."
"Keep spinning your stories," George said, his eyes unreadable. "Anna, will you tell me the truth?"
"Of course, George. I won't hide anything from you," Anna replied, trying to sound sincere.
"Did you know about Emma's pregnancy back then?" George pressed on.
"No, I didn't know," Anna denied quickly.
George gave a bitter smile and just stared at her coldly, saying nothing.
Anna felt a chill run down her spine, terrified by the coldness in his eyes, fearing he knew more than he let on.
"Alright, let's get back to the proposal. Even if he's Ms. Stuart's ex, who cares? Everyone has an ex these days," someone tried to break the tension.
George shot him a disdainful look, and the guy wisely backed off into the crowd.
Meanwhile, the young man and Tom had vanished.
George let out a cold laugh, looking at Anna, who once inspired him, intoxicated him, and made him sad. Now, she only made him laugh bitterly. He felt his past feelings were incredibly naive.
He glanced around. The scene before him was so ridiculous and absurd. There was no point in proposing to a lying Anna.
At that moment, through the open door, he saw a familiar figure flash by outside.
He dropped the ring and chased after it without a second thought, leaving Anna standing there, facing the guests alone.
But when George got closer, he realized he had mistaken the person.
That figure wasn't Isabella. The girl in the white dress was just walking with her head down, focusing on her phone.
George felt a wave of disappointment, looking around helplessly, trying to find Isabella.
Just when he felt lost, he finally saw her in a dimly lit area. Isabella was standing by the roadside, carefully picking out some snacks, a faint smile on her face.
"Ms. Taylor," George called out, walking quickly towards her, his disappointment replaced by excitement.
Emma heard his voice, looked up, and asked with feigned surprise, "Mr. Russell, what are you doing here?"
"It doesn't matter," George smiled slightly, feeling relieved. "I want to invite you for a ride. Would you agree?"
Not only would Emma agree, but she'd do it right in front of Anna.
Emma asked, "Where are we headed?"
George replied, "I'll take you wherever you want to go."
"I'm not familiar with Lakeside Haven. How about you make a recommendation, Mr. Russell?" Emma was stalling, waiting for Anna to come out and see her and George leave together. Only then would she feel a bit of satisfaction.
As Emma and George chatted, Anna did come out, glaring daggers at Isabella.
She thought, 'I could ruin Emma's face back then, and I can ruin yours now!'
Anna was now convinced that Isabella and Emma were not the same person. Isabella must have heard about Emma and had plastic surgery to look like her to steal George!
In her high heels, Anna approached Isabella. But before she could get close, Emma and George got into the car and drove off with a roar of the engine.
The night was dark, and the flickering roadside lights blurred Anna's vision. Her heart felt torn, painful, and helpless.
Just moments ago, she was dreaming of a sweet proposal, but George's sudden departure hit her like a ton of bricks.
She stood there, holding the ring George had dropped.
"Isabella!" Anna spat out the name through gritting teeth. She thought, 'One day, I will destroy you!'
At that moment, the guests came out, whispering among themselves, looking at her with pity.
Anna's cheeks flushed with shame. She had been abandoned in front of everyone, becoming the laughingstock of Lakeside Haven!
Charles, upon hearing the news that George had interrupted the proposal, was furious. "George, get back here right now!"
He added, "No! I don't want to see you! Come back and repent!"
On the other end of the phone, Charles's voice was thunderous, so angry he could hardly speak. But George wasn't worried at all because he had a surefire plan.
"Grandpa, don't worry. I'll be back soon," George reassured. "I'll explain everything when we meet."
George's promise slightly eased Charles's anger.
Although he never wanted Anna to marry George, his favorite Emma was already dead. George had lived a clean life for the past few years, with only Anna by his side.
Anna had given birth to Lucas and they even had been engaged three years ago.
Since George was so determined about Anna, Charles had decided to give up.
But just when George was finally about to propose, the bastard left Anna to chase after Isabella.
Charles rubbed the cane in his hand. This rough, uneven branch was perfect for beating some sense into George!
