Chapter 118 Dreamscape Peak - A Great Place for Couples to Date
George had been glued to online news lately, and the comments from netizens were driving him nuts.
He found himself dropping by Emma's store more often, like seeing her would somehow help him sleep better at night.
"Mr. Russell, why are you here again? You have a fiancée, remember? Keep your distance, okay? My boyfriend wouldn't like it," Emma said, the word "boyfriend" making George's blood boil.
He eyed the ring on Emma's finger, reminding himself that Isabella had a boyfriend and a kid. Even though she looked just like Emma, she wasn't Emma.
Emma would never look at him with the same gaze she used for strangers. Her eyes were always full of warmth and light.
"Ms. Taylor, please don't shut me down so easily. Can I take you somewhere?" George asked gently.
Emma's lips curled into a slight smile. She knew she had to play hard to get with George.
Just then, Emma's phone buzzed in her pocket. It was a tracking system she had set up for Anna. If Anna was nearby, Emma would know. Her smile suddenly brightened.
"Sure, shall we go now?" Emma said, stepping toward George.
But as she moved, her stiletto heel caught on a stone, and she twisted her ankle, almost falling. Luckily, George caught her by the waist.
Emma's move was a bit of a gamble. She wasn't sure if George would catch her, but she got lucky.
George looked down at Isabella in his arms. Her body was soft and light, and the scent of her hair was intoxicating.
"Emma," he couldn't help but say.
Emma smiled. "Mr. Russell, can I ask you something? Since I got to Lakeside Haven, I knew you and Emma had a rocky relationship. She messed with your love life. You should hate her, but it seems like you don't. Why is that?"
George was silent for a moment, about to speak, when a shrill female voice cut through the air.
"George, why are you holding her? What's going on between you two? Isabella, how can you be so cheap? You have a boyfriend and you're still trying to seduce George."
"Enough," George said, frowning. "Ms. Taylor almost fell, and I just helped her up. Don't overthink it."
"How can I not overthink it? If I hadn't come here, you two would be all over each other!" Anna snapped.
"Stop!" George didn't want to hear any more doubts about Emma, not even Isabella.
Three years ago, he couldn't protect Emma. Now, he wanted to protect an Isabella who looked like Emma.
George's coldness set Anna off. She was ready to start her drama again. "George, we've been engaged for three years, and you still haven't married me. It must be because of something Emma said to you before she died. I know I can never compete with the dead Emma. But George, do you remember how happy we were when we were kids? You said you would take care of me for a lifetime. Even if you want to break your promise, I will agree to it." By the end, Anna was already in tears.
She turned around, lifting her skirt, with her tears landing on George's fingertips.
"I'm tired. Maybe if I follow the same path as Emma, you'll notice me. Goodbye, George. See you in the next life." Anna ran off.
George was still worried about her and followed her out.
Watching a live drama unfold, Emma couldn't help but applaud. She knew that every move Anna made had a purpose.
Emma contacted the hacker she had been working with for a long time. "Help me track Anna's coordinates."
"Okay, got it." Soon, the hacker sent a short video, which clearly showed Anna's movements.
The more Emma watched, the more her brows furrowed. They actually went to Dreamscape Peak, where was the place she and George met as children.
Emma felt something was off, so she took a cab to Dreamscape Peak. She wanted to see what Anna and George were doing there.
As Emma arrived there, she noticed George and Anna locked in an emotional embrace.
Emma stood behind a large rock downwind, hearing Anna's voice carried by the wind. "George, this is where we started. I hope we can end here too."
George said, "Don't think like that. I will take responsibility for you."
What a wonderful picture.
Emma thought sarcastically, 'Dreamscape Peak is just a great place for couples to meet. How can anyone meet here?'
The last piece of pure land in her heart was also tainted. Emma felt a bit nauseous. She just wanted to go back and take a shower, to wash every inch of her skin clean.
As soon as Emma got in the car, she received another message from the hacker: [Here's a coordinate for you. It will give you a new experience.]
Emma opened the coordinates and accompanying picture. This place really intrigued her. Maybe she should invite Mia to check it out.
"Mia, are you in Lakeside Haven now?" Emma called Mia.
"What a coincidence. I just got back. I was about to call you." The background noise on Mia's end suggested she was at the airport.
"Did you go traveling again?" Emma asked.
"Got it right!" Over the years, Mia went abroad to develop her career. Unlike Emma, who had been alone, Mia found a happy relationship.
Her love story was quite interesting. Mia loved cycling and would go abroad every summer to watch cycling races.
That year, while cycling up a mountain to watch a race, she happened to overtake a chubby man named Kirk Gutierrez, who was unwilling and struggling to keep up the pace.
But the gap in their abilities was too large, and in the end, Mia left him far behind. Kirk was already disheartened.
