Chapter 153 Irresponsible George
"Hang in there, Lucas, it'll be over soon," Emma said, holding his hand gently.
"Okay..." Lucas nodded, trying hard not to cry.
With Emma there, it didn't hurt as much.
The doctor quickly treated Lucas's wound, gave a few instructions for aftercare, and then left the examination room.
Emma looked at Lucas with so much sympathy, then noticed the doctor motioning for her to step outside. She figured he had something to say that Lucas shouldn't hear, so she gave Lucas a lollipop and told him to wait while she took care of the bill.
"What's up?" Emma asked, concerned.
"Take him to see a psychologist if you can. And maybe think about changing his living situation..." the doctor suggested before leaving. Emma stood there, stunned.
Lucas was only six, just a first-grader, and already dealing with this kind of trauma? What was even more infuriating was that George allowed Anna to torment Lucas. Was Lucas really their son? At that moment, Emma considered a possibility. The first child Anna had been pregnant with, the one she had deliberately miscarried, wasn't George's. Could it be that this child wasn't George's either, which was why he was so indifferent towards Lucas? It seemed necessary to personally visit George.
Emma stormed into The Russell Villa with Lucas, fuming. As soon as Emma walked in, she spotted George lounging on the sofa, sipping red wine. His eyes lit up for a second when he saw her, but then he noticed Lucas trailing behind and his expression soured.
"What are you two doing together?" he asked, frowning.
"Yeah, that's exactly what I want to know. Why are we together? He's just a first-grader, George! Why didn't anyone pick him up from school? Do you even know what he just went through? Lucas got bullied, surrounded by thugs demanding money. Where were you, Mr. Russell? Can you please be a little kinder to Lucas?" Emma's voice rose, her anger boiling over as she pointed accusingly at George. "Use that brain of yours that only knows how to please Anna and think about why Lucas is like this."
George glanced coldly at Lucas, who was wrapped in bandages. His feelings towards Lucas were a tangled mess. Since discovering Anna's actions, and realizing his love for Emma, everything in his world seemed upside down.
George didn't want to see Lucas because every time he did, it reminded him of the daughter they lost when Emma was pregnant.
George thought, 'Emma's daughter is gone, but Anna's son survived. How ironic.'
George said coldly, "I've canceled my engagement with Anna, and I won't fight for Lucas's custody."
Did that mean he was done with Lucas's upbringing?
Emma's heart was full of pity for Lucas and anger for George.
She couldn't understand how George, as a father, could be so heartless. Couldn't he spend a little time paying attention to Lucas?
"I hope you reflect on what it means to be a father!" Emma snapped. She turned to Lucas, her heart aching, and said softly, "Lucas, come on, I'll take you to rest."
Under her gentle coaxing, Lucas slowly walked to her side.
"Don't be afraid, I'll always be with you," Emma said softly, leading Lucas to the bedroom.
In the bedroom, Emma gently tucked Lucas in, her heart full of tenderness. She sat by the bed and softly coaxed him, "Lucas, close your eyes. I'm here, it's okay."
Feeling her warmth, Lucas gradually relaxed and drifted into sleep.
Emma gently stroked his head, her heart full of pity and love.
She didn't know why she felt such affection for Lucas, but seeing him bullied sparked a love in her heart that wouldn't allow her to just stand by.
Since their first meeting three years ago, she had always treated Lucas differently. She found herself breaking her own boundaries and indulging her sympathy for him.
Now she had even had a big fight with George for Lucas. This wasn't part of her revenge plan, but she really couldn't control her emotions.
Looking at Lucas's innocent sleeping face, Emma felt her anger gradually subside. If her daughter were still alive, she would be as old as Lucas. Maybe that's why Emma was always so gentle with Lucas.
She knew she had been too impulsive today, but George's heartlessness had repeatedly shattered her understanding, making her more determined in her revenge plan.
Emma thought to herself, 'George, since you are so heartless, don't blame me for causing trouble today!'
Emma gave Mia a call, "Mia, the plan's in motion."
Mia said, "Okay!"
After hanging up the phone, Emma smiled slightly. The show was about to begin!
As Emma listened to the raindrops gently tapping against the window, creating a delicate sound, the smile on her face grew even more pronounced. Wonderful, even the heavens were on her side.
George walked into the bedroom and saw Isabella by the bed, softly stroking Lucas's head with a tender smile.
Right then, she seemed like the warmest presence in the house.
At that time, Emma also carefully placed the strand of Lucas's hair she had just picked up into her pocket and hid it away.
George's eyes moved between Isabella and Lucas, and he felt a pang in his heart. If they had a kid, they'd be just as happy as this.
"Lucas just fell asleep." Emma did not look up; instead, she kept her eyes fixed on Lucas.
"Thanks, Isabella." George's voice was full of gratitude, touched by her kindness.
He knew he hadn't been the best dad, while Isabella had been there for Lucas, just like Emma. Both were such kind-hearted women.
"It's raining and it's cold. Why don't you stay for dinner?" George asked, hoping to get closer to Isabella.
"I really shouldn't..." Isabella hesitated. "Seraphine and Michael are waiting for me at home."
