Chapter 115 The Matermind

The troublemakers found themselves surrounded by a wall of police cars.

"Nobody move!" a cop yelled. Rex and his crew exchanged nervous glances but quickly masked their unease with their best tough-guy demeanors.

"You really think you can catch me?" Rex sneered, hands in his pockets, looking like he didn't have a care in the world.

With a cocky grin, he pointed behind him with his thumb. "We're not scared of you cops! If we can smash it today, we can come back and do it again tomorrow!"

"How dare you!" another officer barked, stepping forward with handcuffs at the ready.

The troublemakers felt a wave of fear, realizing the gravity of their situation. In their moment of hesitation, the cops split into two groups and surrounded them.

"Get 'em!" the officers shouted together, moving fast and giving the troublemakers no time to react. Rex tried to fight back but was quickly pinned to the ground, handcuffs snapping onto his wrists.

"This is illegal trespassing and property damage; you're under arrest!" another cop said coldly, cuffing the rest of the crew one by one.

"You'll regret this!" Rex spat as he was dragged away. His buddies shouted threats too, but neither the cops nor Emma were fazed.

The troublemakers were shoved into police cars and whisked away.

Emma's jewelry store lay in complete disarray—display cases shattered, priceless pieces of jewelry strewn across the floor,  their sparkle almost mocking the chaos.

Some customers were mentally tallying up Emma's losses. Others, like Sophia and Henry, just watched quietly, waiting to see how Emma would react.

Emma, standing amidst the wreckage, remained preternaturally calm—an contrast to the fragile version of herself that many remembered. This composed demeanor even made George, who had been convinced that Isabella was Emma, begin to second-guess his certainty. He watched her closely, wondering how she would navigate this mess.

'Would she cry? Or ask for help?' George thought.

He realized he had no clue because he barely knew Emma.

With the store trashed, the grand opening was a bust.

Emma got her staff to start inventorying the damage and preparing a report; she'd have to hit the police station tonight.

She was determined to make the troublemakers spill who was behind this.

In the holding cell, the troublemakers were crammed into a small room, looking tired and uneasy. After a night of waiting, no one had come to bail them out, and anxiety was spreading.

"What do you think is happening this time?" Rex sat in the corner, looking pissed off. His crew whispered among themselves, pointing fingers.

"This is all your fault, messing with those rich folks!" one guy snapped. "If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be here!"

"I just wanted us to make some money!" Rex shot back, clearly regretting his choices.

"Stop arguing. It's pointless," another troublemaker sighed, shaking his head. "Now that we're locked up, the people who hired us definitely won't help us."

As the tension simmered, a group of cops marched in, their eyes immediately locking onto Rex.

"You, come with us," one of them said coldly. Rex felt a knot in his stomach, knowing he was about to get grilled.

In the interrogation room, Rex was shoved into a chair at a metal table. The cops stared him down, ready to start the questioning. "Who put you up to this?"

Rex hesitated. Anna had helped him out before. When she asked him to help Olivia and Jerry with something, he didn't think twice.

But he didn't expect them to ask him to lead his crew to trash a jewelry store.

Rex wasn't into it; they usually just did small-time stuff, nothing on this scale. However, the money Anna offered was too tempting, too significant to ignore. His sister was ill, and the medical bills were mounting, so he took the risk.

Anna had assured him that nothing would go wrong. So Rex agreed. But he didn't expect Anna to ditch them.

Rex felt let down. He planned to take all the blame himself, but under the cops' threats and promises, he started to crack.

The cops kept pushing. "If you're the mastermind, you'll get a heavy sentence. Otherwise, you're just an accomplice, and the charge is lighter. Plus, you're still a minor, so you'll only spend a few days in juvie. Think it over."

"I don't know," Rex mumbled, torn inside.

Finally, he couldn't hold back and blurted out, "It was Olivia and Jerry, they told me to cause trouble!"

"Who are they?"

"That Isabella is George's mistress. Olivia and Jerry hate her for being the homewrecker who came between George and Anna, so they wanted us to mess with her," Rex spilled, leaving out Anna's part.

The cops' eyes lit up with satisfaction. They quickly noted down Rex's statement and took him along to Olivia's house.

Olivia's place was in a fancy villa community, looking all luxurious and stuff.

When Olivia opened the door and saw the cops, her face went pale.

"We have something that needs to be investigated, and we need your cooperation," one of the officers said coldly, pushing the door open and walking in. Olivia realized how serious this was and quickly asked, "What do you want?"

"About the vandalism at the jewelry store," the officer said bluntly, staring her down. "We have evidence linking you to the incident."

Olivia's face got even paler, panic setting in. She cursed Rex under her breath, knowing he must've ratted her out.

The situation wasn't beyond saving yet, and Olivia wasn't about to admit anything. She tried to defend herself. "I didn't do anything like that. You can't just accuse me!"

"We have all the evidence. If you disagree, you can appeal. But right now, we need to talk about compensating for the store's damages," the officer said, still cold.

"I'll contact my lawyer; you can't just handle this however you want," she tried to keep her cool.

But the cops' gaze stayed firm, clearly not planning to let her off easy.
