Chapter 638 Threat
"I'll find her," Emma said firmly. "Even if I have to search the whole world, I'll find my daughter."
Just as the tension between them hit its peak, the front door of the mansion flew open. George stormed in with his bodyguards, followed closely by a worried Zachary.
"Emma!" George rushed forward, positioning himself protectively in front of Emma, his eyes wary as he stared at Michael. "Are you okay?"
Emma shook her head. Michael was too extreme, too terrifying right now. She couldn't bring herself to tell George about the situation.
She feared what Michael might do to Seraphine...
Michael adjusted his suit sleeves, his voice cold. "This is a family matter. Outsiders have no place here."
Zachary couldn't hold back any longer. "Michael! You..."
"I know exactly what I'm doing," Michael interrupted, his gaze never leaving Emma. "Emma. Remember my words, my patience is limited."
Emma gave Michael one last look, the disappointment and resolve in her eyes making Michael's heart tremble. But she said nothing, turning to leave the mansion with George.
Zachary stayed behind, looking at Michael with a pained expression. "You're only pushing her further away."
Michael walked to the window, watching as Emma got into George's car and drove off. His voice was barely audible. "But she was always mine."
Back in the car, Emma finally broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.
George held her close, his heart aching for her. She looked up at George's handsome face through her tear-filled eyes.
Why? Why did she have to endure so much suffering just to be with the one she loved?
Michael wanted her to submit?
No way!
She would use her own abilities to find Seraphine!
A spark of hope reignited in Emma's eyes. She wiped away her tears, determined. This time, she wouldn't let anyone hurt Seraphine.
Meanwhile, Michael stood in the mansion's surveillance room, watching the screen showing Seraphine playing, his expression complex.
"Celeste, I'm forcing them apart again," Michael said slowly, standing up. "Will you show yourself to save them?"
Emma used all her connections, searching every corner of Lakeside Haven, but she couldn't find any trace of Seraphine. Three days passed, and Emma had lost weight, dark circles heavy under her eyes.
"Emma, you need to rest," George said, handing her a cup of hot milk, his voice full of concern. "What have you been so busy with lately?"
Emma shook her head numbly, her fingers tightly clutching the photo of Seraphine in her pocket.
Just then, her phone rang. It was a message from Michael: [The three-day deadline is up. It seems you don't want to see Seraphine.]
Emma's fingers trembled so much she could barely hold the phone. She suddenly stood up, a look of determination in her eyes.
She had to go see Michael.
"Emma, where are you going?"
"None of your business."
Standing alone in the rain outside Michael's mansion, Emma let the rain soak her hair and clothes.
"I agree," she said, her voice barely audible. "I'll break up with George, just let me see Seraphine."
Michael stood on the steps, looking down at her. "Come inside, we need to talk."
In the living room, Emma stood drenched, rainwater dripping from her hair onto the carpet. Michael handed her a towel, but she pushed it away.
"Where's Seraphine?" She stared directly into Michael's eyes.
Michael chuckled. "Don't rush. Prove your sincerity first."
That night, Emma returned to George's mansion. Since their marriage, she had moved in and lived under the same roof as George's mother, Scarlett.
In the dining room, George was gently serving her food. "Emma, you haven't been eating well lately..."
Emma suddenly put down her utensils, coldly pushing his hand away. "Enough."
George froze. "What's wrong?"
"We're breaking up." Emma's voice was icy. "I never loved you."
The air in the dining room instantly became tense. Scarlett immediately shrieked. "I knew it! You were never good enough for George!"
George's face turned pale. "Emma, what are you saying? Did Michael threaten you?"
"Threaten?" Emma sneered. "Do you think everyone is as despicable as you? Being with you was just to get back at you. Watching you fall in love with me, then abandoning you, that was my goal."
She stood up, looking down at George's shocked face. "The game is over. I'm done."
Scarlett was trembling with anger. "Get out! Get out right now! You shameless woman!"
George grabbed Emma's wrist. "I don't believe it! Emma, what's really going on?"
Emma harshly shook off his hand, a flash of pain in her eyes quickly replaced by coldness. "Don't flatter yourself. I've always loved Michael."
With that, she walked towards the door without looking back. George tried to follow, but Scarlett held him back. "Let her go! A woman like Emma isn't worth your tears!"
As Emma walked out of the mansion, her tears finally fell. She wiped them away and dialed Michael's number. "I did it. Now it's your turn to keep your promise."
On the other end, Michael's voice was filled with victorious pleasure. "Good. Now, come see me."
Hanging up, Emma looked at the lights of the Russell Villa, her heart aching. She knew every word she had just said had cut deep into George's heart. But for Seraphine, she had no choice.
Inside the mansion, George sat at the dining table, the food he had served Emma still in front of him. Scarlett continued to rant. "I always knew she was no good! Look at her!"
"Mom!" George suddenly raised his voice. "Please go to your room."
Scarlett was startled and reluctantly left the dining room. George sat alone in the dark, recalling Emma's final look. The pain in her eyes was not that of a heartless person.
He stood up abruptly. "Something's wrong. There has to be more to this."
Emma took a cab to Michael's mansion. She wore a simple white dress, her face pale as a sheet.
"Where's Seraphine?" she asked as soon as she entered. "Can I see her now?"
Michael gave her a meaningful smile. "Of course. But first, I have a question. Do you really think I would let George off so easily?"
