Chapter 357 Fireworks Show

George and Lucas arrived by taxi.

It wasn't that George couldn't afford a car; he deliberately chose not to drive. Since Emma now drove herself to and from work, he saw this as a perfect chance to enjoy more time with her.

When they arrived at the amusement park, the evening festivities were already in full swing, and the place was brightly lit.

The three of them had a blast.

Suddenly, the amusement park went dark.

"Power outage?"

The next second, music started playing, and everyone began counting down.

The night sky of the amusement park lit up with dazzling fireworks, casting colorful lights on their faces. Lucas stood between them, looking up at the sky, excitedly pointing at the fireworks. "Mom, Dad, look! It's so beautiful!"

Emma smiled and gently patted Lucas's head, softly saying, "Yes, it really is." Her gaze, however, involuntarily drifted to George, who was also looking at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions.

George took a deep breath and, taking advantage of the noise from the fireworks, whispered to Emma, "Emma, can we talk? I don't want a divorce, and Lucas doesn't want us to split up either."

Emma's heart trembled slightly, but she quickly suppressed her emotions and said calmly, "George, our problems can't be solved just by talking. You know that. I hate you."

George pleaded painfully, "Emma, from the beginning, my heart has only had room for you. Both physically and emotionally, it's always been you. Let's start over and give Lucas a complete family, okay?"

At that moment, Lucas tugged on Emma's hand, looking up at her with his clear, expectant eyes. Emma's heart softened, but she didn't want to be swayed by her emotions again.

She crouched down, gently hugging Lucas, and said tenderly, "Lucas, we both love you, but there are things we have to face. No matter what happens, we'll always be here for you, okay?"

Lucas nodded, a bit disappointed but not throwing a tantrum. Emma stood up, about to speak, when George's phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the screen; it was a call from Scarlett.

Emma looked at George with a sarcastic smile. She was sure Scarlett was going to berate her again.

On the other end, Scarlett's voice was sharp and grating. "George, send me money right now! This dump is unlivable!"

George's tone turned cold. "The Russell Group is gone. Where am I supposed to get money? Be glad you have a place to stay."

Scarlett's voice rose instantly. "You ungrateful bastard! I raised you, and how dare you treat me like this? Is that bitch Emma behind this? She's a curse! If it weren't for her, our family wouldn't be in this mess!"

"Mom, enough! Emma did nothing wrong. Stop being unreasonable!"

Despite George's attempt to lower his voice, Emma still heard the conversation.

Though she was used to Scarlett's insults and had expected nothing less, hearing those words still made her uncomfortable. She walked over to George and said calmly, "Give me the phone."

George hesitated but handed it over.

Emma took the phone, her tone steady but with a hint of menace. "Scarlett, it's Emma. Do you know why you're in this situation? Do you know why your precious niece Phoenix betrayed you? I'll tell you—because I made it happen!"

There was a brief silence on the other end before Scarlett erupted. "Emma! You bitch! I knew you were up to no good. You corrupted my Phoenix! How dare you speak to me like this?"

Emma hung up the phone and handed it back to George.

"Don't you have any questions about your mom being scammed?"

George shook his head, only apologizing repeatedly. "What my mom did was wrong. You did what you had to."

"George, there's no need for that." Emma took out the divorce papers she had prepared and handed them to George. "These are the divorce papers. I've already signed them. Just sign and mail them to me."

George didn't want to take them, but Emma held them out, and he didn't want to make her wait, so he took them.

"Emma, are you sure? Is there really no chance for us?"

"Sign them. It's for the best."

"Are you going to be with Michael?"

"That's none of your business."

"Emma, even if you divorce me, don't be with him. Michael has ulterior motives for getting close to you!"

George tried to grab Emma's hand, but she pulled away. "George, you've crossed the line. I can make my own decisions."

"Lucas will come home with me tonight. Don't worry." Emma took Lucas's hand and walked away, fireworks exploding in the night sky behind them, leaving a trail of smoke.

Fireworks bloom and fade quickly, just like time.

What was gone would never return.

Emma held Lucas's hand, walking briskly toward the parking lot. The night was deep, the parking lot dimly lit, and the surroundings unusually quiet. The sight of their hands together was especially tender.

"Mom, today was so much fun! Can we come again next time?"

Emma smiled, about to answer, when a group of burly thugs emerged from the shadows, blocking their path. The leader, with a sinister smile, stared at Emma. "Ms. Jones, what a coincidence. Our boss wants to see you."

Emma immediately shielded Lucas behind her. "Who are you? What do you want?"

The man sneered. "Cut the crap. Come with us, or don't blame us for being rough!"

Lucas clung to Emma's clothes, whispering, "Mom, I'm scared."

Emma gently patted Lucas's hand, soothing him. "Don't be scared, Lucas. I'm here."

She quickly scanned the area and saw her car not far away. She was about to make a run for it with Lucas, but the thugs had already surrounded them, clearly not planning to let them escape.

In that critical moment, Lucas suddenly let go of Emma's hand. Taking advantage of the thugs' distraction, he slipped through their legs and hid behind a nearby pillar. He took out the phone Emma had given him and, with trembling hands, dialed George's number.

"Dad, come save Mom! We're in the parking lot, and some people are trying to hurt her!" Lucas's voice was shaky but he tried to stay calm.

On the other end, George's heart sank when he heard Lucas. "Lucas, don't be afraid. I'm on my way! Stay hidden and don't come out!"

Meanwhile, Emma was cornered by the thugs.

Though outnumbered, she wasn't about to give up. Just as she reached into her bag for her stun gun, George appeared at the parking lot entrance.

"Let her go!" George roared, charging forward and knocking down the thug closest to Emma with a punch.

The thugs, caught off guard by George's sudden appearance, were momentarily flustered. George quickly positioned himself in front of Emma, shielding her. "Whoever dares to hurt her will regret it!"

Emma looked at George's back, feeling a mix of sweetness and bitterness.

She thought, 'George has protected me once again. Maybe he really has changed.'
