Chapter 275 The Russell Mansion

"Isabella, come home with me," George said, wrapping his arms around Emma affectionately.

"But..." Emma hesitated, looking at George with eyes full of worry, like a frightened deer. George's heart softened at the sight.

"Don't worry, my mom's already agreed. She won't give you a hard time," George reassured her, squeezing her hand. "With me there, she won't dare do anything to you."

"Okay, I trust you," Emma said, snuggling into George's embrace, burying her head in his neck.

Emma thought, 'George, do you really think I trust you? With Scarlett's personality, there's no way she'd let me off just because you asked. Are you naive, or just pretending to be?'

The next day after work, George picked Emma up and drove her to The Russell Mansion.

In the car, Emma imagined walking into The Russell Mansion. What new torment would Scarlett have in store for her this time?

She hadn't forgotten how, when she had a bleeding ulcer and was on the verge of passing out from the pain, Scarlett had forced her to drink spicy soup. Even when she vomited blood, Scarlett showed no concern, instead complaining that Emma was ruining everyone's appetite.

If Scarlett enjoyed belittling others so much, Emma was ready to take it head-on.

As Emma was lost in thought, George's phone rang. He answered, and his expression grew serious.

"Sorry, Isabella, I have to handle some business at the company," George said, hanging up the phone with a hint of regret in his eyes. "Maybe we should postpone this? I'll take you home first."

"No need, George, I can go," Emma said understandingly. "I can wait for you at The Russell Mansion."

"But..." George hesitated.

"Don't worry. She's your mom, she'll consider your feelings and won't be too hard on me."

"Alright," George said, though he was still a bit worried. "I'll have the driver take you."

"No need, your business is more urgent. I'll just take a cab."

Emma got out of the car and smiled as she walked towards The Russell Mansion. It was the perfect opportunity for her to execute her plan since George wasn't coming.

The exterior of The Russell Mansion was still as grand as ever, with a garden full of blooming flowers that gave off a faint fragrance.

Her heart was filled with anticipation.

She reached the door and knocked gently. After several knocks, there was no response.

Emma knew Scarlett was starting her game. Straining to listen, she could only hear faint, muffled voices from inside, making it impossible to discern what was being said.

"Hello, is anyone there? It's Isabella," Emma called out tentatively, her voice echoing in the empty courtyard.

Emma couldn't help but mock Scarlett's low-level scheming in her mind. This was The Russell Mansion, not an ordinary home. With so many servants managing the vast estate, it was unreasonable that no one was there to answer the door.

She knocked harder, the sound piercing the silence. But no matter how hard she knocked, the people inside seemed oblivious, lost in their own world.

Inside the grand hall of The Russell Mansion, Scarlett sat upright, ready and waiting.

In the surveillance room, several servants watched the monitors, observing the situation outside. Emma stood at the gate, knocking lightly. Her figure looked frail in the cold wind, and the servants couldn't help but feel pity.

"She's been out there for a while. Shouldn't we let her in?" a young maid whispered, looking uneasy.

"Yeah, this doesn't seem right," another servant added, feeling sorry for Emma.

Scarlett watched the surveillance with a cold smile. "Let her wait. It's no big deal," she said, her voice icy, clearly enjoying Emma's predicament.

The butler, Atticus, stood nearby, frowning. He was unhappy with Scarlett's actions. He knew that although Isabella was George's wife, Scarlett always saw her as an outsider.

"Mrs. Scarlett Russell, Isabella has been waiting outside for a long time. Are you really not going to let her in?" Atticus asked cautiously.

"I said she can't come in, and that's final!" Scarlett's voice rose, and her eyes flashed with anger. She was filled with loathing for Isabella and didn't want her to feel any warmth in this house.

"She's Mr. Russell's wife. Isn't this a bit too much?" Atticus couldn't help but argue, feeling angry at Scarlett's behavior.

"I'm just teaching her a lesson, showing her that she'll always be an outsider in this house," Scarlett sneered, her eyes gleaming with malice.

Scarlett felt a sense of triumph, deciding to let Isabella freeze and starve outside. She wanted to use this method to torment Isabella, making her feel the difficulty of surviving in this household.

Today, she had deliberately timed the call to George, sending him away so he couldn't arrive in time, giving her a chance to target Isabella.

She had seen many women like Isabella, gold diggers who came for the Russell family's wealth. She was confident that Isabella wouldn't leave without entering the house today.

"Mrs. Scarlett Russell, aren't you afraid she'll complain to Mr. Russell?" Atticus asked worriedly.

"George is very busy right now. He doesn't have time for her!"

Scarlett was confident. She had sent George far away, telling him that important documents from the Russell Group had been stolen, which would affect an upcoming bid.

George was surely overwhelmed and wouldn't have time to deal with matters at home.

Emma stood at the large iron gate of The Russell Mansion.

She had been knocking for a long time, but no one responded. The biting wind made her feel incredibly lonely and desperate. She remembered a winter when she almost died, and her hatred burned, turning into a fierce determination.

'Don't want to let me in? Let's see if you have what it takes!' Emma looked around, lost in thought.

She suddenly started fiddling with her phone.

Seeing this on the monitor, Scarlett thought Emma was calling George and smirked.

"Looking for help?" Scarlett called Atticus over and instructed, "Go create more trouble for George to ensure he cannot return."

"Yes, Mrs. Scarlett Russell." Atticus nodded.
