Chapter 222 Mother and Daughter Confrontation

Just as Sophia was furiously berating George, Scarlett hurried over. Although she had always wanted to unite the Stuart family and the Russell family through marriage, it didn't mean she personally liked Anna.

In her heart, George and the Russell family always came first.

Someone publicly criticizing George and disrespecting him? Scarlett naturally wouldn't respect that person either.

"Mrs. Stuart, aren't you being unreasonable?" Scarlett snapped at Sophia. "We both know why this wedding is happening. If it weren't for the business partnership between our families, I wouldn't even consider someone like Anna. For years, Anna has clung to George, even when he had a family. She even had a child with him. Instead of teaching your daughter properly, you come here to blame my son? What right do you have?"

Sophia was taken aback by Scarlett's sudden harshness and said angrily, "You promised to treat my daughter well. You even thanked her for giving birth to Lucas. And now you despise Anna?"

Scarlett remembered saying those things, but the circumstances were different then. Back then, George liked Anna, who was the well-regarded daughter of the Stuart family and a talented designer with a good reputation.

Why wouldn't she approve of such a daughter-in-law?

But now? What does Anna have left?

George no longer loves her, she's mired in scandals, and even Lucas doesn't like her anymore.

A woman with no talent and no character—Scarlett only allowed the marriage because Anna is the sole heir to the Stuart family.

She had thought that once they were married, the Stuart family would pour all their resources into George. But instead of seeing that, she saw Sophia berating George.

With Sophia's current attitude towards George, how could she ever support him in the future?

This marriage was meaningless!

Since they only had a wedding ceremony and didn't register the marriage, they could just treat it as a regular party and later announce that the wedding was invalid.

Sophia hadn't expected Scarlett to turn so ruthless, and she didn't know who to blame.

Now, everyone in Lakeside Haven's high society knew that the Stuart family and the Russell family were in-laws, forming a business alliance.

Could the Russell family be having second thoughts?

If so, the Stuart family needed to prepare.

Sophia no longer had the energy to worry about Anna's feelings. She needed to go back and discuss with Henry how to guard against a potential betrayal from the Russell family.

But before that, Sophia had one more thing to do. She couldn't openly break with the Russell family, but she could certainly teach Isabella a lesson.

When Sophia turned to Emma, Emma knew she was about to get scolded again.

"Isabella, you are a shameless woman!" Sophia accused without mercy, her voice dripping with disdain. "How dare you ruin someone else's marriage? Shameless!"

Emma's smile didn't waver. "What did I ruin? This was George's choice."

Sophia sneered, "Do you really think George would choose someone like you? He's just temporarily blinded by you! You're just a gold-digger trying to climb the social ladder!"

Emma's face showed a hint of disdain. She seemed unfazed by Sophia's accusations. In fact, her gaze even carried a hint of provocation, as if daring Sophia to do her worst.

Sophia pressed on Emma, "Do you think you can enjoy your triumph for long? I won't let you continue to humiliate my daughter! You will pay for your actions!"

"Pay for my actions?" Emma laughed derisively. "I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do."

"You will see!" Sophia's voice was filled with anger and determination. "I will make sure your Miss Lady boutique can't survive in Lakeside Haven!"

"Bring it on." Emma's cold eyes clashed with Sophia's protective gaze for Anna, each with their own thoughts.

"Sophia, you should wise up." Emma's voice carried a subtle hint of sarcasm. "Don't let Anna fool you anymore."

Sophia frowned, feeling a pang of unease, but she didn't grasp the deeper meaning of Emma's words.

She responded angrily, "Mind your own business! Anna is my daughter; she would never deceive me!"

"Is that so?" Emma smirked. "I just think there are some truths you might not know."

Sophia glared at her and said, "What are you talking about?"

Emma sneered, "I'm just reminding you not to be deceived by appearances. Some people aren't worth your trust."

"What exactly are you trying to say?" Sophia's voice was filled with strong discontent.

Emma was unfazed by Sophia's anger. "I'm just looking out for you, Sophia. Even though you harbor ill will towards me, I've never intended to harm you. But Anna is different."

"Are you trying to drive a wedge between me and Anna?" Sophia responded angrily, filled with loathing for Isabella. She couldn't understand why Isabella was so intent on destroying her relationship with Anna.

"You've never seen Anna's old photos, right?" Emma threw out this seemingly random statement before walking away with a contemptuous smile.

As a daughter, she had fulfilled her duty. Whether Sophia listened or believed was no longer her concern.

Emma's words echoed in Sophia's mind, causing her to waver.

Though she initially didn't want to believe it, the phrase "don't be deceived" stuck in her mind like a thorn. She began to doubt whether Anna was truly her biological daughter.

Driven by an inexplicable urge, Sophia went home and dug out many of Anna's childhood photos.

She scrutinized each one, trying to find features similar to her own. But the more photos she looked at, the more uneasy she felt. Anna's childhood face bore almost no resemblance to her own, especially the eyes and nose, which were completely different.

"How is this possible?" Sophia was filled with doubt, staring incredulously at the photos.

Anna's childhood appearance was markedly different from her adult looks.

Could Anna have secretly undergone plastic surgery?

But why would she do that?
