Chapter 149 Your Conspiracy
George's eyes darted to the door, lighting up with joy the second he saw Emma. "Isabella, what brings you here?"
Emma cursed inwardly, thinking, 'Wow, you're quite the actor. Didn't you ask me to come?'
She kept a smile plastered on her face and gently placed the thermos on the bedside table. "I wasn't sure what you could eat, so I made some oatmeal. Want to give it a try?"
"Will you feed me?"
"Mr. Russell, please don't joke." Emma checked the time. She had someone inform Anna that she was visiting George at the hospital. By now, Anna should be almost here.
Just as Emma sat down next to George's bed, Anna burst in.
"George, why is Isabella here? What's going on between you two? I knew it! You broke off our engagement because of her, didn't you?"
George sighed, clearly exhausted. "It has nothing to do with her."
Anna ignored him and continued, "I heard there's a poison in Zenithia that makes the victims obey the person who poisoned them. You must have been poisoned by Isabella!"
"Shut up!" George closed his eyes, refusing to look at Anna.
Emma couldn't help but chime in. "Ms. Stuart, you sure know a lot about mind control. I heard Mr. Russell used to be very obedient to you. Could it be that you..."
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Anna interrupted. "If you keep talking, I'll smash your mouth!"
Emma took a timid step back and said softly, "Then I won't say anything. Mr. Russell, since your fiancée is here, I'll take my leave. Please don't call me again; I'm afraid Anna will kill me. Also, I'm not your ex-wife Emma; I can't be as submissive as she was."
Before George could respond, Emma turned slightly, showing off her best profile, and gave him a teasing glance before leaving.
As she passed Anna, she curled her lips slightly and whispered mockingly in Anna's ear, "Ms. Stuart, if you want to become Mrs. Russell, you've got a lot of work to do."
Anna was instantly furious. She raised her hand to slap Isabella, whose striking resemblance to Emma had always grated on her nerves.
Just as Anna's hand was about to hit Emma's face, Emma suddenly fell to the ground. The moment she hit the ground, George rushed to her side, helping her up.
Emma's delicate body leaned against George's. George looked at Anna with cold eyes. "You even dare to hurt her in front of me. What have you done to Isabella when I'm not around?"
Anna, holding her raised hand, said incredulously, "I didn't even hit her. She's faking it to gain your sympathy!"
Anna yelled, but Emma appeared very weak. She slowly moved her hand away from her right cheek, revealing a red mark. Anna was incredulous.
She shouted, "The mark on her face is fake; she drew it herself!"
George didn't believe Anna's excuses at all. "Even now, you're still lying to me?"
George thought back to all the accusations Anna had made against Emma in the past. Were those all lies too?
Today, George saw Anna knock Isabella down with his own eyes, and she was still lying. He couldn't imagine what Emma must have gone through when he wasn't around.
At that moment, Anna clutched her waist, groaning in pain as if she were injured.
"George, it hurts so much." She pointed at Emma accusingly, "It's Isabella; she hurt me!"
George laughed coldly. "Anna, do you think I'll believe you?"
Emma almost laughed out loud. She thought, 'Anna, how does it feel to be falsely accused?'
Anna, indeed, hadn't hit her face; she had fallen on her own. The redness on her face was from a bit of blush. As for Anna's waist injury, Emma had secretly pricked her with a needle in George's blind spot.
She pricked deeply, causing a lot of pain but leaving no trace. Even if Anna went for a check-up, nothing would be found.
Emma thought to herself, 'Anna, I'm just giving you a taste of your own medicine.'
"Apologize!" George commanded.
Anna's face lit up with a smile. Thinking George still loved her, she immediately regained her arrogant attitude and ordered Emma, "Did you hear that? George wants you to apologize to me!"
"I want you to apologize to Isabella!" George's eyes were full of coldness.
"Why should I apologize? She's the one framing me!" Anna retorted angrily, "George, can't you see? I'm the one who's hurt!"
"What I see is that you hurt her."
Anna stared at Isabella with wide eyes. Isabella had seduced George to the point where he didn't believe her anymore.
Anna felt a surge of resentment. She had never bowed to another woman before. At that moment, an idea flashed through her mind, and she smiled sinisterly.
"Fine, I'll apologize," Anna said, but her eyes gleamed with malice.
"Ms. Taylor, I'm sorry. I was impulsive. I just think that, given your status, you shouldn't be visiting George. He's an engaged man, and you have a boyfriend. It seems inappropriate."
Emma ignored her provocation and smiled at George. "Mr. Russell, you shouldn't ask me to come. I've made Ms. Stuart jealous. I'm really afraid of ending up like Emma."
Anna was fuming, thinking, 'George asks Isabella to come? George must be seduced by this bitch Isabella. George, since you like her, I have no choice but to destroy her.'
"Ms. Taylor, I'd like to invite you to dinner to express my apologies. How about it?" Anna's voice carried a hint of challenge.
"Dinner is unnecessary; we're not that close."
"Your refusal means you don't forgive me." Anna pressed.
"I don't have time." Emma hadn't completely turned against Anna yet.
"Then how about a cup of coffee? Don't refuse me."
Anna was practically broadcasting her conspiracy, so Emma agreed, wanting to see if Anna could come up with any new schemes this time.
