Chapter 417 Fickle in Love
Phoenix carefully followed Emma, watching as she got into her car. She quickly hailed a cab and told the driver to tail Emma's vehicle.
To Phoenix's surprise, Emma's car didn't head towards the hospital but instead drove straight to a fancy café. Phoenix's heart skipped a beat, and she thought to herself, 'What is she doing here?'
She got out of the cab and hid around the corner, watching from a distance as Emma entered the café.
Not long after, a man in a sharp suit walked in and headed straight for Emma's table. Phoenix squinted, trying to make out his face, and then she recognized him—Valentin Dobbins, one of the judges from the jewelry design competition.
Phoenix sneered, her eyes filled with disdain. "So, she's cozying up to the judges. Such a bitch!"
She watched them talk, unable to hear their conversation, but Emma's enthusiastic expression and the stack of documents in her hand led Phoenix to a bold conclusion. "Emma, you're cheating! You got the competition's topics from the judge. No wonder you're so confident!" She felt triumphant, believing she had caught Emma red-handed.
Eager to report this, she pulled out her phone to call George, but the call didn't go through. Instead, she heard a cold automated message. "The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable."
Phoenix was stunned for a moment before realizing that George had blocked her.
She gritted her teeth and stomped her foot. "George, how dare you block me! You're really protecting that bitch!"
How dare George defend Emma and block Scarlett, his biological mother!
Emma was nothing but a siren, bewitching everyone around her!
Meanwhile, inside the café, Emma glanced at the documents in her hand, a subtle smile playing on her lips, a hint of cunning in her eyes. She gently traced the edge of the papers, as if deep in thought. Across from her, Valentin sipped his coffee, a look of curiosity and confusion on his face.
"Ms. Jones, you could have received these documents electronically. Why insist on meeting in person?" Valentin set down his coffee cup, his tone puzzled. He studied Emma's face, searching for answers.
"Mr. Dobbins, I appreciate you coming out here. I'm a stickler for details and prefer to confirm things in person to avoid any mistakes." Her tone was casual.
Valentin nodded, still somewhat puzzled but didn't press further. He smiled, his tone understanding. "Being cautious is always good. As a special guest for this competition, we are here to support your needs."
Emma nodded slightly, her tone grateful. "Thank you, Mr. Dobbins. This document is very important to me, and I appreciate your help."
Valentin waved his hand dismissively. "No need to be so formal. It's my job. I hope you perform well in the competition and bring some brilliance to our design community."
Emma smiled. "I'll do my best not to disappoint you."
After a few more pleasantries, Valentin stood up to leave. "I won't take up more of your time. If you need anything else, feel free to contact me."
Emma stood as well, nodding politely. "Thanks, Mr. Dobbins. Take care."
After Valentin left, Emma sat back down, scanning the café. Her eyes caught a glimpse of Phoenix lurking in the shadows. She smirked and mused, 'Scarlett, you think you've discovered something? Keep dreaming.'
She deliberately slowed her movements, carefully putting the documents into her bag before leaving.
As she walked out of the café, her steps were composed and graceful, as if everything was under control.
On the other side, Phoenix watched Emma leave. She decided to keep tailing Emma, waiting for the perfect moment to expose her true colors.
Her decision was spot on.
Emma didn't go home or to the hospital as she initially claimed. Instead, she drove straight to the largest design company in Lakeside Haven—Stellar Creations Design Studio.
What was Emma up to now?
Phoenix got out of the cab and hid around the corner, watching as Emma entered the company building. Not long after, Emma came out, a satisfied smile on her face.
Phoenix squinted, making another bold guess. "Emma, you're definitely cheating! You had someone else do the design for you, planning to use their work for the competition. No wonder you're so confident! I knew it, a woman as clueless as you can't possibly understand design! Chief designer at Miss Lady, my foot! You probably slept your way to that position!"
She let out a cold laugh, feeling smug. "Emma, you've exposed yourself this time. Let's see how long you can keep up the act."
Phoenix didn't leave immediately. Instead, she walked into Stellar Creations Design Studio. She approached the front desk with a polite smile, her tone probing. "Hi, I was wondering, what was Ms. Jones here for earlier?"
The receptionist looked at her and answered politely, "She came to commission a jewelry design."
Phoenix's heart leaped with joy, but she kept her composure. "I see. When will the design be ready?"
The receptionist shook her head. "I'm not sure, but she seemed to be in a hurry, so probably soon."
Phoenix nodded, a meaningful smile on her face. "Thank you."
She turned and left the company, her suspicions confirmed.
Emma was definitely cheating!
But Emma had good taste. The design she approved might actually win.
This prize was as good as hers!
Meanwhile, Emma sat in her car, looking at the documents in her hand and then at Scarlett, who had just left the company building.
The sunlight cast a confident glow on Emma's face.
In this game, she was the true master.
Phoenix continued to follow Emma, curious if she would engage in any other cheating activities. She saw Emma head to the hospital to take care of Charles. Phoenix, pretending to be kind, followed her into the room, a fake smile on her face. "Emma, let me help you take care of Charles."
Emma looked up, seemingly astonished at Scarlett's arrival.
But she still smiled innocently. "Sure, thank you." Her tone was light, as if she hadn't noticed Phoenix's intentions at all.
