Chapter 396 Reporting to the Police
Phoenix watched George defend Emma so fiercely, and her anger flared up instantly. She let out a cold laugh, her voice resolute. "Fine, if you don't believe me, I'll call the cops! Let's see what the truth really is!"
With that, she pulled out her phone and dialed 911. "I'd like to report a poisoning. The address is..."
George, seeing this, laughed in exasperation. "Alright, Mom, if you're so insistent, let's get the cops involved. It seems you won't be satisfied until they arrive!"
Phoenix remained unmoved, staring at them coldly. "George, don't blame me. You forced my hand! When the cops get here, the truth will come out!"
When the police arrived, they quickly assessed the situation.
They asked Emma where she bought the medicine and sent someone to verify it. Before long, the police returned with surprising news. "We investigated the pharmacy. Despite its rundown appearance, it's a legitimate establishment with high-quality medicine. The doctor there is highly skilled and has saved many lives. The medicine sold is specifically tailored to the patient's condition."
Emma breathed a sigh of relief and quickly explained to George, "George, I really did this for Grandpa. Mia told me about this amazing doctor, so I invited him to treat Grandpa. After his treatment, Grandpa's condition improved a lot. This bottle of medicine is from him. He said once Grandpa finishes it, he'll recover. I trusted him, so I bought the medicine."
As George listened, his eyes softened with guilt and tenderness.
He gently caressed Emma's cheek, his voice filled with affection and determination. "Emma, I'm sorry. You've done so much for Grandpa, and I made you suffer." He held her hand tightly, conveying all his trust and support.
"You didn't make me suffer. You've always believed in me."
"I believe in you, always."
Emma's eyes reddened, her voice choked with emotion. "George, thank you. I just want Grandpa to get better. I had no other intentions."
George smiled warmly and pulled her into his arms. "I know, I always know. You've always been so kind and considerate. It's my fault for not stopping my mom and making you suffer."
Phoenix stood nearby, watching their intimate interaction, seething with jealousy.
She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms, but her face remained calm. She couldn't stand the thought of Emma being cleared of suspicion or Charles recovering. Seizing the moment, she suddenly rushed forward and knocked the medicine bottle out of Emma's hand.
The bottle shattered on the floor, the medicine spilling everywhere.
"Mom, what are you doing?" George yelled.
He knew Phoenix had a bad temper and didn't like Emma, but he never expected her to smash Charles's life-saving medicine!
Phoenix spoke coldly, "Who knows what's really in that medicine? Just because the pharmacy is legitimate doesn't mean the medicine is safe! Emma, don't think you can fool everyone!"
Emma looked at the spilled medicine, tears welling up. "Mom, why would you do this? This medicine is Grandpa's hope!"
George's face turned livid with anger. "Scarlett, how long are you going to keep this up?"
Phoenix remained defiant, her voice sharp. "Who knows if she's telling the truth? Who is this doctor? Who can vouch for his skills? Emma, don't think you can just make up a story and get away with it!"
The police frowned and addressed Phoenix. "Mrs. Russell, we've verified the pharmacy and the doctor's credentials. There's no issue. Are you questioning our investigation?"
Phoenix sneered, her voice cutting through the tension. "I think you've all been fooled by Emma! She's a fraud, and you've all been deceived!"
George couldn't take it anymore and ordered her out. "Scarlett, leave my house now!"
Phoenix, seeing George defend Emma so fiercely, grew even angrier. She gritted her teeth and, feigning calm, said, "Fine, if none of you believe me, I'll investigate myself! Let's see how long Emma can keep fooling you!"
With that, she turned and left, leaving everyone in the room stunned.
Emma looked at the spilled medicine, tears streaming down her face. "George, what do we do now? Grandpa's medicine..."
George gently patted her shoulder, his voice soothing and firm. "Don't worry, I'll contact the doctor and get a new prescription. Grandpa will be fine." He kissed her forehead tenderly, his eyes full of love. "Emma, you've done so much for Grandpa. I don't know how to thank you."
Emma leaned into his embrace, whispering, "George, as long as Grandpa gets better, I'll do anything."
Charles sat in his wheelchair, his eyes filled with helplessness and sadness. He couldn't speak or move, only watch silently.
George walked over to Charles and whispered, "Grandpa, don't worry. Emma and I will take care of you. We won't let anyone hurt you."
Charles blinked slowly, as if responding to George, but mostly it was a silent sigh.
Emma and George left the house and went straight to the pharmacy.
The young doctor, Micah Porter, was sitting behind the counter, engrossed in an old book. His face was youthful, yet his eyes revealed a profound depth and unwavering steadiness. Hearing footsteps, he looked up and smiled. "Ms. Jones, Mr. Russell, you're here."
Emma hurried over, her voice urgent. "Dr. Porter, the medicine bottle was accidentally broken. We need another one. Grandpa's condition can't wait."
Micah frowned, his expression serious. "The ingredients in that medicine are very rare, especially the Purple Gromwell. My stock is depleted, and it will take some time to find more."
George's heart sank but he quickly steadied himself. "Dr. Porter, no matter how long it takes, we'll wait. We'll do whatever it takes to cure Grandpa."
Micah nodded, a hint of admiration in his eyes. "Mr. Russell, your dedication to your grandfather is commendable. However, I must say, the poison affecting him is quite unusual. I've never seen anything like it. It's very unique."
His voice carried a note of excitement, as if he had discovered a rare treasure.
He stood up, walked to a cabinet, and retrieved a notebook from a drawer. Flipping to a specific page, he handed it to George. "This is my analysis of your grandfather's condition. The poison is extremely rare, possibly unique. If we can find its source, we might not only cure your grandfather but also solve some medical mysteries."
George took the notebook and read through it carefully.
It was filled with detailed notes and hypotheses. Though some of the medical jargon was beyond him, Micah's thoroughness and dedication reassured him. He looked up, his voice earnest. "Dr. Porter, if you're willing, I'd like you to help us uncover the cause of my grandfather's poisoning. I'll have my assistant Joshua assist you with anything you need."
Micah's eyes lit up with excitement, his voice tinged with a hint of obsession. "Mr. Russell, you're too kind. This poison is like the Holy Grail of medicine to me. It's an honor to study it. I'll do everything I can to help you find a cure."
