Chapter 436 Win Over
Emma tried to smile, attempting to reassure Michael. "I'm fine, really."
But Michael's brow remained furrowed, his eyes filled with a wary alertness.
"This is Phoenix trying to hurt you on purpose!" his voice grew colder, anger blazing in his eyes.
He couldn't stand it.
Phoenix, hearing this, let out a cold, unrestrained laugh, her gaze sharp as a knife directed at Emma. "You think you're some big shot? Accusing me of causing trouble on purpose? You're just a flirt, seducing George's uncle!"
Her words ignited the atmosphere around them. The air grew tense, and all eyes turned to them.
Some had already recognized the tall, handsome man as George's uncle, Michael.
Seeing how close they were, people began to wonder if there was something scandalous going on.
Life among the wealthy sure was chaotic!
"What nonsense are you spouting? I was helping out of a sense of justice, no need to stir up trouble maliciously," Michael retorted coldly. At that moment, his disdain for Phoenix reached its peak.
Phoenix, however, didn't care about his disdain. She seemed to believe her twisted logic could hide the darkness in her heart. "I'm just fighting for fairness for the contestants! Is that wrong?"
Just then, a commanding voice interrupted her. Judge Valentin emerged from backstage.
With his appearance, the noise around them gradually died down, and all eyes focused on him.
"The fairness everyone wants," Valentin's voice was firm, "I'll provide it!"
Valentin's presence was like a powerful gust of wind, instantly dissipating the tension. The audience fell silent, hanging on his every word.
Meanwhile, outside, another scene was unfolding.
George was busy negotiating for his new company. He was handling business while keeping an eye on Emma's situation through a live stream.
Who could have predicted that a simple competition would turn into such chaos?
Emma must be terrified.
No way! He had to get to the scene and check on her.
George couldn't focus on the contract in his hands.
"You handle the negotiations. I have something more important to do."
Joshua frowned, quickly stopping him. "Mr. Russell, you can't! The upcoming negotiations are crucial. They determine whether we can reclaim the Russell Group. This is undoubtedly the priority."
His steady voice was firm, clearly not wanting George to be distracted at this critical moment.
"But Emma's situation..." George's words trailed off as the live stream suddenly cut out, making his heart feel like it had been punched. "I can't just sit here!"
"Mr. Russell, stay calm! Any rash actions now could jeopardize the negotiations. We must ensure their success to create a safer environment for Emma." Joshua said calmly.
But George couldn't just sit there. He resolutely ordered the tech team to use every means to monitor the scene and get updates on Emma. The screen lit up again, and he watched intently until he saw that Emma seemed temporarily safe, allowing him to breathe a slight sigh of relief.
Just as he relaxed, the screen showed a deadly scene—a blade aimed at Emma. Michael, like a knight, rushed forward, intercepting the fatal blow and saving her. George's heart tightened, anger and anxiety intertwining. He couldn't stay any longer.
"Joshua, I'm going to the scene! Don't try to stop me!" George no longer cared about the importance of the negotiations; his mind was solely on Emma's safety.
Joshua saw this, a mix of helplessness and worry in his eyes, but he understood George's feelings. "Mr. Russell, to protect Emma, you need to secure your business first. Even if you go to the scene, you might not be able to control the situation."
His persuasion was futile.
"I don't care! I can't let her get hurt. I'll handle everything my way!"
In the end, no matter how Joshua tried to dissuade him, George left without hesitation.
As soon as he exited the building, George sped towards the scene.
He had only one thought: to ensure Emma's safety.
Meanwhile, Joshua had to play the lone hero in the upcoming negotiations.
In the conference room, the representatives from the other company were already impatient. Seeing only Joshua, they immediately showed disdain. They scrutinized him with critical eyes, whispering among themselves.
"I don't want to waste time talking to someone without decision-making power," the representative sneered, full of mockery. Joshua's heart sank, sensing the deliberate provocation.
"We want to speak directly with Mr. Russell, not an assistant. If he's not here, the deal is off." The representative's words were sharp, piercing Joshua's heart, filling him with an overwhelming sense of failure.
Joshua suppressed his anger, striving to remain calm. He knew that the failure of these negotiations would directly impact whether the Russell Group could return to George.
"You're responsible, but unfortunately, you're following the wrong person."
With these words, Joshua sensed their true intention—to recruit him.
"Mr. Thomas, we recognize your abilities. We're willing to offer you a better position and benefits. Think it over. Don't follow someone like George who lacks a big-picture view." The representative feigned sincerity, but his smile was cunning. "I believe you're smart enough to make the right choice."
Joshua neither agreed nor refused.
He simply opened the conference room door. Since negotiations were off the table, there was no need to keep them.
No point in entertaining them with a meal!
As George raced to the competition venue, Valentin began explaining the truth to everyone.
"Indeed, I met with Emma alone and gave her all the topic materials."
