Chapter 98 Death

In the ICU, the white walls were almost blinding under those harsh lights. Out of nowhere, Emma's heart monitor started blaring like crazy.

"Get the defibrillator ready!" A doctor noticed Emma's heart rate tanking and jumped into action. The nurses scrambled to get the defibrillator, while the doctor slapped the electrodes on Emma's chest.

"Clear!" the doctor yelled, and everyone stepped back in a hurry.

With a thud, the defibrillator sent a jolt through Emma's body. She twitched, and the heart monitor's line steadied out.

"Her heartbeat's back!" the nurses cheered, but the doctor stayed focused, still directing the resuscitation.

"Keep the IV going, maintain her blood pressure!" the doctor ordered, checking Emma over. The nurses moved fast, trying to stabilize her.

"Get an ultrasound, check for internal bleeding!" the doctor barked.

"Found it, there's a lot of blood in her abdomen!"

"Prep for surgery. Move her to the OR now!"

The nurses quickly got Emma onto a gurney and rushed her to the operating room.

Meanwhile, George was left pacing outside the OR.

In the hospital corridor, George couldn't stop pacing. The OR door was shut tight, its cold metal surface reflecting the chill in George's heart.

"She'll be okay," he kept telling himself, but the anxiety wouldn't go away.

Time dragging on, George's eyes stayed glued to the OR door as he silently prayed.

Just when he thought he couldn't take it anymore, the OR door finally opened.

A doctor walked out, looking grim, and George's heart sank. A bad feeling washed over him.

"How's Emma?" George's voice shook, desperate for an answer.

The doctor took a deep breath, his eyes full of sadness. "We did everything we could, but we couldn't save her."

Those words hit George like a ton of bricks.

His whole world shattered. Emma's smile, her warmth, her love—all gone in an instant, leaving him in a pit of despair and pain.

"No. This can't be happening." George's voice cracked, tears streaming down his face. He couldn't accept it.

"I'm so sorry," the doctor said, looking exhausted and helpless, and George's pain turned into an unbearable weight.

"I don't believe it!" he shouted.

"I don't care! I just want her back!" George's voice trembled, tears flowing, filled with helplessness and despair. He thought of Emma's smiling face, her loving words, now turning into cold, harsh reality.

"Please calm down, she's already..." The doctor's words were cut off by George's roar. With all his strength, George shoved the doctor aside and bolted towards the emergency room door.

"I don't believe it! I need to see her! Right now!" he shouted as he burst into the room.

The sight that greeted him made his heart ache.

Emma lay there quietly on the operating table, just like she did when she was alive.

But her eyes would never open again. She'd never look at him with those eyes, never smile at him again.

He had lost Emma forever.

"Emma..." he whispered, tears streaming down his face, falling onto her hand.

"We'll never be apart again, okay?" he held her hand, but it was cold. His fingers gently caressed her face.

It felt like she was still alive.

"Her body is still soft! She's not dead yet!" George yelled.

"The body only stiffens 30 minutes after death. She has no signs of life now, and we need to take her to the morgue," the doctor said, finality in his voice.

"I won't allow it!" George blocked the doctor's way, his voice frantic. "She can't just leave me like this!"

The doctor shook his head, trying to push him aside, but George wouldn't budge.

With all his strength, George took Emma's body from the doctor's hands, holding her close.

"George, you bastard! Let her go!" Mia suddenly appeared, her eyes filled with anger and sadness. She rushed forward, trying to take Emma's body back.

Her hands gripped George's arm, trying to push him away.

"Don't touch her! She's my wife!" George roared, pushing hard. Mia staggered back, disbelief on her face.

"When Emma was alive, you didn't cherish her. Now that she's dead, You are pretending to be so affectionate for? It was you who had her tortured in prison, had her child destroyed and had Anna blind her!" Mia cried hysterically.

She was actually a bit afraid of George, knowing she was Emma's weakness, so she never provoked him.

But now, she just wanted to kill this bastard George!

Emma was healthy when she married him. After just a few years, she had gone through so much pain.

She was framed, imprisoned, and had a miscarriage! Emma explained the truth to him over and over, laid her heart bare, but George never believed her.

He only listened to that vicious woman Anna.

"George, you're not just crazy, you're a fool! Deaf! Blind! You killed Emma! You should pay for her life!"

Mia cursed repeatedly until George's eyes lost focus.
