Chapter 233 Refusal

Sophia and Henry were her only lifeline now. Even though she was frustrated with their movement, she didn't want to show it.

"We've been reaching out to friends and lawyers. We'll have some progress soon," Sophia said, trying to reassure Anna and hoping she would believe they were doing everything they could to help her.

"I know. You both take care of yourselves too," Anna nodded, though inside she was boiling with frustration. She wanted to scream at them, to ask why things were moving so slowly, why she had to endure this torment in such a dark place.

Why couldn't they move faster? Did they know how much she was suffering in here?

But she had an image to maintain, a gentle and pitiful one. She couldn't shout and had to look helpless. Her eyes welled up with tears, and she bit her lip, staying silent.

However, they felt a pang of guilt.

"We'll find a way as soon as possible, Anna," Sophia said, trying to keep her voice calm to soothe Anna's emotions. "Trust us, we won't give up."

Anna responded softly, "I know. I trust you. You are my parents, after all."

Tears glistened in Anna's eyes as she suddenly thought of Emma.

Before Emma faked her death, she had already known her true identity. Now that Anna was stuck in prison, would Emma take the chance to tell Sophia the truth?

If Emma and Sophia reunited as mother and daughter, Anna would have no hope left!

No! She couldn't let that happen!

"Mom!" Anna anxiously grabbed Sophia's hand. "That bitch, Isabella, has always tried to drive a wedge between us. Don't believe her! She'll say I'm not your daughter, that your real daughter is someone else! Mom, she hates me and will do anything to ruin me! You have to believe me!"

Sophia patted Anna's hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, Anna. I believe you. You are our only daughter. I've never doubted that."

The visiting time was coming to an end, and the prison alarm sounded, signaling it was time to wrap up. Henry and Sophia looked at Anna with reluctance.

As the visit ended, Anna was taken back to her cell, while theyy stood outside, filled with guilt and helplessness.

Henry began to pull every string he could, but everyone turned him down.

Eventually, his friends blocked his number, cutting off all contact.

Just when Henry was about to lose hope, an unexpected message came. Dominic's secretary reached out, offering help. This news sparked a glimmer of hope in Henry's heart.

"Mr. Stuart, hello. I'm Mr. Grant's secretary," the voice on the other end was clear and steady. "He is very concerned about your daughter's case and would like to meet with you and Mrs. Stuart to discuss it."

Henry was stunned, hardly believing his ears. He quickly asked, "Really? Where can we meet?"

"Mr. Grant would like to meet at your home. We can discuss the details in person," the secretary's voice was firm.

"Alright, I'll arrange it," Henry agreed without hesitation.

After hanging up, Henry sprang into action. He decided to host a simple yet elegant dinner for Dominic at their home. Though filled with anxiety, he knew this might be the key to saving Anna.

He hired a renowned chef to handle the dinner preparations. As he busied himself, Sophia returned home.

"What are you up to?" she asked, noticing the flurry of activity.

"It's Mr. Grant. He said he might be able to help us," Henry replied, still engrossed in the dinner arrangements.

"Mr. Grant? Which Mr. Grant?" Sophia tensed up. The only one she could think of from her past was Dominic, who had brought her nightmares.

'It couldn't be him!' Sophia prayed silently.

But Henry blurted out, "It's Dominic, the police chief of Lakeside Haven."

Sophia felt like she had been struck by lightning.

It really was him!

What was he doing coming to her house?

She had already given in so many times. Why wouldn't he leave her alone?

"Can I skip it?" Sophia asked timidly.

"But Mr. Grant said he wanted both of us to be there. Sophia, do you have something urgent tonight? Can't you reschedule? This is our only chance to save Anna. We can't miss it!"

"Alright," Sophia gritted her teeth and agreed.

For Anna, she would do it! And it was at her home, with Henry there. What could Dominic do?

In the evening, Dominic arrived as scheduled. Henry greeted him warmly at the door. Dominic, dressed in a sharp suit, smiled. Sophia couldn't shake the feeling that his gaze lingered on her.

"Mr. Stuart, thank you for the warm invitation," Dominic said, shaking Henry's hand with a concerned look. "I heard about your daughter's situation and hope to offer some help."

"Thank you, Mr. Grant," Henry said gratefully. "We really need your support. This is my wife, Sophia."

"Hello, Mrs. Stuart. I've heard a lot about you," Dominic extended his hand to Sophia. She had no choice but to place her hand in his.

Their hands touched briefly, and it seemed the sinister look in Dominic's eyes was just her imagination.

Everything proceeded normally.

At the cozy dinner table, Dominic tasted the dishes and praised them, "This is really good. The flavors are excellent."

"Thank you, Mr. Grant. I'm glad you like it," Henry said, feeling a bit relieved. He continued chatting with Dominic, trying to create a relaxed atmosphere.

As the dinner went on, Henry gradually relaxed, and Dominic began discussing Anna's case. He mentioned that while there were some government restrictions, he would do his best to help them find a suitable solution.

"I'll arrange for the case to be reviewed," Dominic said seriously. "I can't guarantee success, but I'll do my best."

Henry felt a surge of gratitude and hope. "Thank you, Mr. Grant," he said sincerely. "We'll do everything we can to cooperate. We hope to find a solution soon."

Dominic nodded.

Just then, Henry's phone rang. He glanced at the screen, his expression changing slightly. "Excuse me, Mr. Grant, I have an urgent matter to attend to. Please continue talking with my wife. I'll be right back."
