Chapter 349 The Vengeance for Killing the Father
Michael paused before finally speaking, his voice cold. "Emma, there are things I don't want to discuss. But remember this: Charles is not a good guy. He caused my parents' deaths, and I'll make him pay for that someday."
Emma stared at Michael, stunned and speechless. She had never heard him mention any of this before, let alone the deep hatred he had for Charles.
Not knowing what to say, Emma noticed they had arrived at their destination. She got out of the car.
As soon as Emma and Michael stepped out of the car, they were spotted by the media waiting at the entrance. Flashbulbs went off instantly, and reporters swarmed around them.
"Ms. Taylor, what's your relationship with Michael? Why are you visiting Charles together?"
"Michael, are you and Ms. Taylor dating? Does Charles know?"
"Ms. Taylor, have you and George finalized your divorce? Are you and Michael getting closer now, indicating a new development between you two?"
The reporters' questions were pointed and relentless, leaving Emma and Michael at a loss for words. Michael frowned, shielding Emma with his body, and said coolly, "Sorry, we're just here to visit Charles. No interviews."
With that, he quickly led Emma into the nursing home, leaving the reporters outside.
However, the scene was captured by the media and soon sparked a heated discussion online.
The media delved into the tangled relationships between Michael, Emma, and George, spinning a narrative of a love triangle. Headlines grew increasingly sensational: #Michael and George at Odds Over Emma! #Michael and Emma Seen Together, How Will George React?
Phoenix and Scarlett saw the news immediately. Phoenix's face turned pale with anger as he threw his phone onto the couch, gritting his teeth. "That Emma! I knew she had something going on with Michael. Lucas must be their kid! She's so shameless!"
Scarlett was equally furious, trembling with rage. "Emma is such a bitch! Instead of caring for George, she's cozying up to Michael. It's disgraceful!"
"Aunt Scarlett, we can't let this slide! Emma's arrogance needs to be dealt with!"
"Exactly! How dare she insult the Russell family like this! She will pay the price for this."
As they spoke, Jack walked in, noticing their anger. He frowned, "What's going on now?"
Scarlett handed him the phone. "Look at this! That Emma had the nerve to visit your dad with Michael! She's deliberately trying to embarrass the Russell family!"
Jack's expression darkened as he read the news. "Emma is out of line! Getting close to Michael is a direct insult to the Russell family!"
Phoenix seized the moment to stir the pot. "Uncle Jack, we can't let this go! Emma needs to learn the consequences of crossing the Russell family!"
Jack nodded, his tone icy. "Don't worry, I'll handle it. Emma won't get away with this."
With that, Jack picked up his phone and dialed a number.
Meanwhile, inside the nursing home, Emma and Michael had already met with Charles. Emma handed Charles a cake. "Grandpa, this is your favorite cake. I got it just for you. Please try it and see if you like it."
"Emma, you're always so sweet."
Emma's eyes welled up. "Grandpa, it breaks my heart to see you here. If you need anything, just let me know. I'll do whatever I can to help."
"Emma, you don't need to worry about me. I'm fine here, and it's peaceful."
Michael stood nearby, glaring at Charles with barely contained anger. He stayed silent, just watching.
Charles seemed to sense Michael's gaze and looked up at him, his tone complicated. "Michael, you're here too."
"I'm not here for you. I'm here for Emma. I'll never forget what you did."
"Michael, I don't want to dwell on the past. If you hate me, I have nothing to say."
"Of course you have nothing to say, because it was my parents who died—your brother and sister-in-law! Their deaths made you the sole heir. But your days of comfort are over. I've taken back the Russell Group, and you'll be left with nothing! Charles, you deserve all of this.!"
Sensing the tension, Emma quickly stepped forward and grabbed Michael's hand, whispering, "Michael, please step outside."
Though he loathed Charles, Michael respected Emma's request and left the room without a word.
With Michael left, the atmosphere in the room eased a bit.
Emma sat across from Charles, handing him a piece of cake. She took a bite of her own and said softly, "Grandpa, you shouldn't be alone all the time."
"Emma, you must bring Lucas to visit me often."
Emma's smile froze, and she stammered, "Grandpa, I might not be able to..."
Emma struggled to find the right words, but Charles understood her hesitation. He sighed, "Young people should follow their hearts and do what they love."
Emma nodded earnestly. "I understand, Grandpa. Thank you."
As they conversed and dined, the atmosphere became increasingly congenial.
However, as Charles took a bite of his second piece of cake, his expression suddenly changed. He clutched his chest, breaking into a cold sweat. "Emma, I don't feel well."
Emma panicked, dropping her food and asking urgently, "Grandpa, what's wrong? Where does it hurt?"
Charles began to tremble, his lips turning blue, his voice weak. "I can't breathe. My chest hurts."
"Grandpa, hold on! I'll call an ambulance right now!"
At that moment, the door burst open, and George rushed in. When he saw Charles' condition, his face paled. He quickly supported Charles and pressed the emergency button on the wall, calling for an ambulance.
On the way to the hospital, Charles' condition worsened, his breathing becoming more labored. Emma held his hand tightly, tears streaming down her face. "Grandpa, please hold on! We're almost at the hospital!"
