Chapter 307 Lucas Is Her Son
The basement was dim and cold, with a damp, musty smell hanging in the air. George violently shoved Anna to the ground. Trembling, she crawled to his feet, clutching his pant leg, and begged desperately.
"George, I was just talking nonsense earlier, don't believe me! The kid's already dead! I swear I won't say anything like that again, please, let me go back to prison! I'll wait for my death quietly!"
George looked at her coldly, his eyes burning with rage that almost scorched Anna. "Everything you've done makes me loathe you. You ruined Emma's life, and now you want to use a kid to threaten me? Anna, I'll make you wish you were dead!"
Anna was tied to a cold metal chair, her hands tightly bound with chains, and her feet fixed to the floor. Her face was pale, and her forehead was covered in cold sweat.
George stood in front of her, holding a bloodstained whip, his gaze icy.
Since he couldn't tell if Anna was lying, he'd use the whip to make her tell the truth! He needed a definite answer today—whether the child was alive and where they might be.
"Anna, I'll ask you one last time; where is the kid?"
Anna's voice was hoarse. "Let me go, and I'll tell you."
A flash of cruelty crossed George's eyes. He raised the whip and lashed it down on Anna's body. The whip cut through the air with a sharp arc and landed heavily on her shoulder. Anna let out a piercing scream as a sudden force struck her, leaving a bloody welt visible through her clothes.
"Still trying to negotiate with me?" George's voice was filled with uncontrollable anger as he lashed her again. "Where is the kid?"
George's blows were heavy, each one deep enough to expose bone.
After a few lashes, Anna was a bloody mess, gasping in pain.
A look of impatience crossed George's face. He swung the whip again, striking Anna's body with relentless fury and hatred.
Anna's screams echoed through the basement, a scene straight out of hell.
"Where is the kid!"
George paused, waiting for Anna's answer. But she was in too much pain to speak, a yellowish-brown liquid with a strong odor trickling down the chair to the floor.
She just wanted it to end, even if it meant dying now.
Seeing George raise the whip again, Anna mustered all her strength and screamed, "Lucas! The kid is Lucas."
George was stunned, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.
He had never imagined that the kid was Lucas. A mix of emotions surged within him—joy that his kid had been with him all along, and guilt for treating Lucas poorly because of Anna.
"Lucas, it's Lucas." Anna's eyes were filled with despair and relief as she repeated.
She had lost her leverage, but at least she could die now.
George handed the whip to one of his men, instructing him to continue. He snorted coldly and turned to leave, abandoning Anna in the desolate basement to await death.
Anna had committed countless sins in her life; she didn't deserve a peaceful death.
With the answer in hand, George had no reason to deal with Anna any longer. He needed to tell Emma that their kid was alive and that it was Lucas.
Would Emma stay with him for Lucas?
Meanwhile, Emma was sitting in the top-floor conference room of Auris Group's headquarters. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, highlighting her confident and composed demeanor.
Zachary sat across from her at a large conference table, with two freshly printed contracts laid out between them.
Zachary's face bore a faint smile, his eyes showing a hint of admiration and trust.
"Ms. Taylor," he teased, "I didn't expect us to reach an agreement so quickly. It seems your abilities are indeed impressive."
"Mr. Baker, you're too kind. This collaboration wouldn't have been possible without your trust and support. I believe that the partnership between Auris Group and the Russell Group will bring immense value to both sides."
Zachary nodded, a meaningful look in his eyes. "Ms. Taylor, our collaboration is not just about mutual business benefits; it's also based on our shared plans and goals. Taking control of the Russell Group has always been our common objective, right?"
Emma urged, "Alright, it's just the two of us here. No need to be so formal. Let's sign the papers."
"Then I won't waste any more time. I'll sign the contract, and you take control of the Russell Group. Agreed?"
"Absolutely."
Given the current chaotic state of the Russell Group, Emma was willing to tackle this difficult situation, and the board members should be grateful to her.
Zachary understood the situation well. He smiled, picked up the pen on the table, and signed his name on the contract. He pushed the contract towards Emma, his voice filled with anticipation. "Ms. Taylor, it's up to you now. The future of the Russell Group is in your hands."
Emma took the contract. "Mr. Baker, rest assured. The Russell Group will be at our disposal."
She picked up the pen and signed her name on the contract. Their eyes met, a silent understanding passing between them. This contract was not just a business deal; it marked the beginning of the Russell family's downfall.
The century-old legacy of the Russell family was about to fall into the hands of outsiders.
George was the Russell family's greatest disgrace!
"Congratulations, Ms. Taylor, on achieving your goal."
"And congratulations to you, Mr. Baker, for helping your sister escape from George, that terrible marriage."
Back at the Russell Group headquarters, Emma stood in the top-floor conference room, holding the freshly signed contract.
She looked around at the board members. "As you can see, I have successfully secured the partnership with Auris Group. This contract not only brings significant business opportunities to the Russell Group but also proves our company's strength and potential."
She placed the contract gently on the conference table, her gaze sweeping over everyone present. "As per our previous agreement, whoever secures the partnership with Auris Group will become the president of the Russell Group. Now, I stand here to officially announce that I will be taking over as the president of the Russell Group."
A low murmur of discussion filled the room, but it quickly subsided.
