Chapter 264 Death Penalty

Sophia sat in the gallery, her heart shattering as she heard the verdict. She couldn't bring herself to accept the judge's verdict. Memories of Anna's laughter and growth flashed through her mind, but she now felt utterly meaningless.

During the trial, Cassius not only failed to defend Anna but also poked holes in the evidence Sophia provided, sealing Anna's fate.

After the court adjourned, Sophia stormed towards Cassius, her voice trembling with anger and despair.

"What the hell are you doing? Why didn't you defend my daughter?" Her voice echoed through the empty courthouse hallway, a mix of fury and helplessness.

Cassius looked at her indifferently, a mocking smile playing on his lips. "I told you I'd try my best, but I never promised anything."

"But why did you help the other side?" Sophia accused, tears glistening in her eyes, her heart filled with hopelessness.

"Because I want her dead too," Cassius replied coldly, without a hint of remorse. He turned to leave, leaving Sophia standing there, angry and helpless.

"Who are you?" Sophia's voice shook, filled with confusion and rage.

Cassius stopped and turned back, a shadow crossing his eyes. "Who stood up for my sister when Anna bullied her to death?"

Hearing that, Sophia was stunned.

Cassius's true motive for being in court was to avenge his sister.

"You did it on purpose," Sophia's voice was low, filled with resignation and despair. She couldn't imagine that Anna had committed so many crimes.

Cassius said nothing more and walked away, leaving Sophia to collapse to the ground, tears streaming down her face.

Only Henry, who had just arrived, silently helped Sophia up.

They supported each other, realizing that Anna's crimes were too numerous to save her from. They began to regret their leniency towards Anna. If they had been stricter with her from the beginning, things might have turned out differently.

Meanwhile, after leaving the courthouse, Cassius met with Emma. She smiled and handed him a check. "This is for your hard work. Thank you for representing me."

Cassius shook his head, his eyes reflecting complex emotions. "I don't need your money. I didn't do it for you. You gave me a chance to avenge my sister. I should be thanking you."

"You really don't want any reward?" Emma was surprised.

"I just want Anna to pay for what she's done," Cassius said firmly, his eyes burning with vengeance.

Emma was taken aback, her feelings towards Cassius growing more complicated. She knew his revenge was not just for his sister but for everyone Anna had hurt.

So, she couldn't insult Cassius with money. Instead, she made a promise. "You've officially gone against the Stuart Group. If they come after you, you can always come to me."

"Okay." Cassius left without another word.

After being sentenced to death, Anna was sent back to the hospital, but this time, only death awaited her.

Anna lay quietly on the hospital bed, facing execution. Her heart was filled with unwillingness and despair. Every day, Sophia would come to the hospital to stay with her, offering comfort even as she dealt with her own pain.

"Mom, please, help me contact Isabella," Anna's voice was weak but pleading. Her eyes showed desperation, as if Emma was her last hope.

"Anna, let it go," Sophia said helplessly. She knew Anna and Isabella didn't get along, and Isabella might not even want to see her.

"Mom, I don't have much time left. Lucas is my only child. Isabella might become his stepmother. I just want to talk to her one last time. I promise I won't do anything," Anna begged, tears welling up in her eyes.

After days of persistent pleading, Sophia finally gave in, sighing inwardly. She decided to set aside her pride and ask Isabella to come to the hospital. She knew it might be futile, but she was willing to try anything for Anna.

"Alright, I'll contact Isabella," Sophia finally agreed, her heart filled with mixed emotions.

Emma arrived as requested, walking into the hospital room with a cold expression, her eyes filled with disdain for Anna.

"Say what you need to say," Emma's voice was icy, laced with sarcasm. She didn't believe Anna just wanted to ask her to take care of Lucas.

"I want to talk to you alone," Anna said softly, her heart heavy with complex emotions.

"Fine." Emma nodded, signaling the medical staff and Sophia to leave the room.

Once they were alone, Anna dropped her facade.

"The child you gave birth to back then didn't die," she hissed, her voice dripping with venom.

Emma stared at Anna in shock. She had seen the child's ashes herself, and now Anna was saying this?

"Do you think I'll believe you?" Emma replied.

"It doesn't matter. If you miss out on that child, the one who'll regret it is you, not me," Anna said calmly, closing her eyes to rest.

Her demeanor made Emma believe her a little.

"What do you want?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Anna shook her handcuffed wrists. "If you get me out of here, I'll tell you where the child is."

Emma stared at Anna, then suddenly smiled. "No way! I won't agree with your demand. If that child is alive, I can find them myself. But you, I'll never let you go!"

With that, Emma slammed the door and left.

As soon as Emma left, Sophia rushed into the room. She quickly checked Anna's condition and, seeing nothing wrong, finally relaxed.

When Emma was about to leave, she turned around. "Mrs. Stuart, you really love your daughter."

After leaving the room, Emma went to find Cassius and a private investigator.

Emma believed Anna, who wouldn't lie about something like this.

However, she won't let Anna off easily. "Find out for me! And one more thing."
