Chapter 230 Child, Don't Look Around
"As long as you're here, I'll do anything for you," George said softly, holding Emma's hand. His touch was a silent promise. "Isabella, promise me you won't face danger alone anymore, okay?"
The car's atmosphere turned warm and intimate, their heartbeats syncing in the silence, as if the world had faded away, leaving just the two of them.
"I'll take good care of myself," Emma whispered.
"Good, I believe you," George replied, smiling gently, his eyes filled with tenderness and determination. "But can you also trust me? Trust that I will always take care of you and protect you, no matter what happens or when."
"Okay." Emma nodded.
Their lips met in a tender kiss. Joshua, in the driver's seat, pressed a button, raising a partition between the front and back seats, blocking Lucas's view from the passenger seat.
Joshua cleared his throat and said, "Hey kid, don't look."
The car soon arrived at the police station.
In the interrogation room, a few thugs were forced to sit on either side of the table as the police began questioning their identities and motives. George and Joshua observed quietly, trying to piece together the truth.
"Why did you kidnap Isabella?" one of the officers asked sternly.
"We were just doing a job for money!" one of the thugs replied coldly. "Anna hired us to do it!"
"What?" George's heart skipped a beat.
So, Anna was involved after all.
"Why did Anna want you to kidnap Isabella?" the officer continued.
"Anna despised Isabella and believed Isabella had stolen her husband, so she was determined to get revenge. This kind of thing happens all the time," the thug said with a hint of smugness.
"Do you have any proof?" the officer asked, taking notes.
"No, but I'm telling the truth! Just ask her!" the thug sneered, showing no remorse.
The officer glanced at George, who nodded, giving permission to summon Anna.
Soon, the police brought Anna to the station. She walked into the interrogation room with a calm demeanor, but her eyes betrayed a flicker of unease.
The seasoned officer took one look at Anna and knew she wasn't innocent.
"Why did you hire others to kidnap Isabella?" the officer asked directly, his gaze sharp.
"I didn't!" Anna's voice was firm, her tone defiant. "I don't know what you're talking about!"
"But the kidnappers said you ordered them to do it," the officer pressed.
"I didn't!" Anna repeated, her voice rising. "I never wanted to hurt Isabella! She barged into my home, took my son, and when I tried to protect him, she cut me with a knife! I'm the victim here!"
No matter how the officer questioned her, Anna stuck to her story.
Just then, Sophia arrived at the station. Seeing Anna being interrogated, she stormed in, her face dark with anger. "Let her go! My daughter did nothing wrong!"
"Mrs. Stuart, please don't interfere with the investigation," Joshua said coldly, blocking Sophia. "Once everything is clear, if Ms. Stuart is innocent, she will be exonerated."
"I know my daughter!" Sophia's voice was filled with indignation. "She's kind and would never do such a thing!"
"But she is connected to these thugs!" Joshua remained calm. "We need to ensure justice for Ms. Taylor."
"Isabella again! Why can't she just disappear! Does she want my daughter dead?" Sophia's composure shattered, and she lunged at Isabella like a madwoman.
"Anna told me everything! You're the one who wants Lucas dead! You're the real mastermind!" Sophia's voice was fierce. "Drop the charges and let Anna go home!"
"I disagree!" George's voice was final.
Anna continued to deny everything, and the interrogation stalled. The police decided to focus on the thugs.
The thugs quickly confessed, identifying Anna as the mastermind.
"We have evidence that Anna ordered us to kidnap Isabella!"
"Evidence?" The officer's eyes narrowed, skeptical.
"Yes, her fingerprints are on this money." The leader of the thugs pulled out a wad of cash, handing it to the officer. "Anna gave us this money, her prints are all over it."
The officer examined the cash with professional equipment and found Anna's fingerprints on several bills. The atmosphere in the room grew tense, all eyes on Anna.
"You talk nonsense! I never did such a thing!" Anna's voice was filled with desperation and anger, her face pale, eyes darting with fear.
"Your evidence is fake!" she shouted, trying to defend herself, but her voice was weak against the proof.
"We have witnesses and physical evidence. Your denials are meaningless," the officer said coldly, his eyes unwavering.
"You can't do this to me!" Anna's voice was desperate, her eyes wild. She began to shout in the interrogation room, "George, I'm your wife! You can't betray me for Isabella! I'm Lucas's mother! Lucas, tell them, I've always protected you!"
As Anna screamed, all eyes turned to the small figure of Lucas, who stepped out from behind Emma.
"Officer, I have something to say..." Lucas said quietly.
The police expected Lucas to plead for Anna, to ask them not to take her away. But what he said next shocked everyone.
Lucas said firmly, "My mom didn't just kidnap Isabella, she also tried to have me killed."
"Lucas, what are you saying?" Sophia was stunned. She rushed forward, covering Lucas's mouth, then turned on Isabella with fury. "What did you tell him? You bitch must have turned him against Anna! You deserve to be an orphan!"
With both witness and physical evidence, Anna's guilt was undeniable.
"Take the suspect Anna to the holding cell," the officer ordered.
As Anna was forcibly taken away, Sophia's heart filled with despair. She couldn't believe Anna was being accused of kidnapping and attempted murder. Her heart ached.
"You can't do this to her!" Sophia cried, trying to stop the police.
"Let her go! You can't take her away!" she shouted, her voice filled with helplessness and despair. She pointed at Isabella, her heart burning with anger and hatred, as if Isabella was the root of all their misery.
