Chapter 206 Saving with One's Own Body

"George, you're not thinking straight. She's got you under her spell. I'll handle her for you!" Jerry's knife glinted menacingly in the moonlight as he lunged at Emma.

"Idiot!" Without a second thought, George grabbed Jerry's wrist and yanked the knife away. The blade clattered to the ground, and George followed up with a swift kick to Jerry's stomach, sending him sprawling.

George then turned his attention to Olivia. He shoved her hard on the shoulder, nearly knocking her over. Olivia stumbled back, eyes wide with shock and defiance.

George's gaze was as cold as steel, sweeping over them without mercy.

Jerry lay on the ground, biding his time. He hadn't come here to fight George; he had more important matters to attend to.

In the moonlight, George held Emma's hand tightly, his eyes filled with concern.

He had just saved her from the Joneses's plot, and his heart still raced with worry for her safety. Emma trembled slightly, looking at him with gratitude. "Thank you, George. I don't know how to thank you enough."

George teased her, "How about marrying me?"

Her uncharacteristic vulnerability made George's heart ache. He wanted nothing more than to hold her close and protect her.

But Jerry wasn't about to give him that chance.

No one had noticed that Emma's grave had been open the entire time, revealing a deep pit. Jerry had fallen next to it when George kicked him.

And now, Emma was inadvertently backing towards it, getting closer to Jerry.

Jerry seized the opportunity and lunged at her, trying to attack again.

"Watch out!" George's heart tightened as he reached out to grab her. But Emma's foot slipped on the edge of the grave, and she lost her balance, falling backward.

The grave had somehow been deepened—it was now a full ten feet deep.

"Help me!" Emma cried out in panic. George's fingers brushed her wrist, but her weight pulled him off balance. In a split second, he jumped into the pit, using his body to cushion her fall.

"Don't be afraid; I'm here!" he whispered reassuringly. Darkness enveloped them, and George held Emma's hand tightly. "I promised you; no matter what happens, I won't let you get hurt."

The walls of the pit were slick and narrow, with only a faint light filtering through the opening above, casting shadows on George and Emma as they huddled together. Their breaths mingled in the confined space, creating an atmosphere of tense intimacy.

"Isabella, are you okay?" George asked softly, his hand instinctively tightening around hers.

Emma felt the warmth of his hand and her heart fluttered. She nodded slightly. "I'm fine."

"Don't worry; I'll protect you." George looked at Emma in the darkness, as if trying to memorize every detail of her expression.

They were so close they could feel each other's heartbeats. Emma's cheeks flushed, and a swirl of complex emotions rose within her.

George had been the source of her pain, but since her return, he had saved her time and again. He was her redeemer. She was plotting against him, but her secret thoughts remained unspoken.

"George," she called softly.

"What is it?" George turned his head slightly, his gaze gentle as he waited for her to speak.

"Are we gonna be stuck here forever?" Emma's voice was low, feigning unease.

"No way. I'll get us out of here." George's grip on her hand tightened.

Emma's heart raced as she felt the warmth and strength of his hand. She looked up at him, her eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and an inexplicable attachment.

She was a skilled actress, hiding her hatred for George deep within, never letting it show in her eyes.

"Thank you, George," she whispered.

"I'll always be by your side, protecting you," George promised again.

The atmosphere between them grew more intimate, the narrow pit forcing them to stay close. Their heartbeats intertwined in the darkness, silently conveying their emotions.

"If we get out of here..." Emma's voice was soft, filled with a hint of hope and longing. "I'll accept your proposal. Do you still want to marry me?"

George's behavior had given Emma confidence. She was almost certain that she now held a higher place in George's heart than Anna.

It was best time to move to the next step.

Anna eagerly anticipated a grand wedding with George, and Emma decided to fulfill her expectations.

"Thank you, Isabella. We'll get out of here, and you'll be mine!" George's voice surrounded her.

In the darkness of the pit, despite the dangers outside, their hearts connected in that moment. Their warmth mingled in the confined space, silently expressing their feelings.

"No matter what happens, I'll stay with you." George used his body to shield Emma.

Suddenly, a rumbling sound came from above, and stones and dirt began to fall, shattering the moment's peace.

"Get down!" George's heart raced as he tried to pull Emma behind him, but the space was too tight. He could only lean forward, using his body to shield her from the falling debris.

"George!" Emma cried out, trying to push him away, but he held her tightly.

"Don't be afraid, I'll protect you!" As he spoke, several stones struck his back with a dull thud.

Emma couldn't help but scream, her heart filled with fear and unease.

She watched as George was hit by the stones, a mix of gratitude and a twisted sense of satisfaction filling her heart.

"I'm okay; don't worry," George said, gritting his teeth against the pain. He turned his head slightly, managing a reassuring smile despite the dirt covering his face.

As more debris fell, George's body was forced forward, his disheveled appearance almost comical.
