Chapter 145 Disappointment

Meanwhile, Emma was at the toy store with Seraphine, who was picking out her favorite toys. Seraphine excitedly pointed at a cute stuffed animal.

"Mom, I want this one!" Seraphine tugged at Emma's hand, her face full of anticipation.

"Alright, let's take it home," Emma agreed with a smile.

As they enjoyed this sweet moment, Mia was not far away at Crispy Crust Pizzeria, chatting with friends while enjoying some delicious pizza. She knew that she and Emma were being secretly watched.

The show was about to begin.

Emma had noticed that George had gone to great lengths to arrange for her and Mia to meet at Crispy Crust Pizzeria. The place was plastered with flyers and ads for the pizzeria, and even the toy store had a big, eye-catching pizza poster.

With their stomachs growling, just one look at the poster made it seem like they could smell the pizza. This temptation was irresistible for a kid. Before they even left the toy store, Seraphine was already clinging to Emma's leg. "Mom, I want pizza."

As they walked out of the toy store, a girl in a Crispy Crust Pizzeria uniform was handing out small pizza samples. Seraphine ran over and grabbed two small pieces, one for herself and one for Emma. Seraphine tasted it, and it was indeed good, which made her want it even more.

"Mom, let's go."

"Alright, we'll go have some pizza."

And so, Emma was led by George to Crispy Crust Pizzeria as he had planned. As soon as she entered the store, a waiter came up to guide her to a table next to Mia's.

Mia, who was chatting with friends, suddenly froze, her gaze drawn to Emma. Her heart raced, almost unable to believe her eyes. It was a woman who looked strikingly like Emma, with long hair, a slender figure, and delicate features.

"Emma!" Mia exclaimed, her eyes welling up with tears. She rushed over and hugged Emma tightly, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed. "I thought you were dead and I'd never see you again!"

Emma was stunned. She gently pushed Mia away, shaking her head slightly. "I'm sorry; I'm not Emma. We just look alike. You're not the first to mistake me for her."

Mia's face instantly showed confusion and disbelief. "Are you kidding? You must be Emma!"

"I'm really not," Emma said firmly.

On the surface, Emma's expression remained unchanged, but she couldn't help but admire Mia's acting in her heart. If it weren't for the fact that they had planned this scene together, she herself might have been fooled by Mia.

"I don't believe you, unless you show me the birthmark on your body!" Mia's voice was urgent. She remembered that Emma had a birthmark, which was a secret between them.

Emma hesitated for a moment, then slowly rolled up her sleeve, revealing smooth skin with no trace of a birthmark. Mia's eyes gradually filled with disappointment.

"You really don't have a birthmark?" Mia's voice trembled.

"I'm not her. I'm sorry to disappoint you," Emma's voice was gentle but firm.

Mia's face turned pale, and tears welled up again."I thought Emma had come back," Mia's voice choked, filled with longing and pain for Emma.

Emma felt a pang of sorrow in her heart, gently holding Mia's hand. "I'm really sorry to disappoint you. But hey, if you don't mind, I can be your friend."

Their friendship was thus easily established.

George sat in the corner of Crispy Crust Pizzeria. The laughter and conversations around him gradually became a blur. At that moment, George's world collapsed. His heart would forever have an unfillable void for Emma.

At that moment, George finally believed that Emma was gone.

When he first saw Isabella, he had deeply doubted that Emma was still alive because their small gestures and unintentional expressions were identical.

But now, Mia, who was closest to Emma, had instantly recognized that Isabella was not Emma. The truth was undeniable.

He remembered Emma's smile, which had lit up his life. But he hadn't cherished it at the time. Now, all that was left was endless longing and emptiness.

George's heart was filled with regret. 'Why didn't I stay by Emma's side? Why didn't I cherish those moments more? Why hadn't I believed every word she said?'

George walked out of Crispy Crust Pizzeria in a daze, wandering the streets alone as the rain soaked his clothes and blurred his vision.

The gloomy sky seemed to echo his inner emotions, heavy and oppressive. The raindrops kept hitting his face, bringing a piercing cold that couldn't extinguish the pain in his heart.

He walked with his head down, his heart full of longing and regret for Emma. The rainwater slid down his hair, adding a heavy burden to his sorrowful mood. His steps were slow and heavy, and each step was a struggle against the pain in his heart.

The passersby hurried by, and no one was aware of the lonely George. Only the rain accompanied him, witnessing his inner struggle and sadness.

George couldn't help but think about the time he had made Emma stay outside in the rain all night to stand up for Anna. That night, the rain was just as heavy. Emma must have felt the same way he did now.

When he got home, George's clothes were already soaked through, the cold seeping into his bones. He leaned weakly against the door, feeling dizzy and unbreathable.

His body began to heat up, sweat beading on his forehead, the cold and heat intertwining. The oppressive emotions in his heart grew stronger. He barely made it to the bedroom, changing into dry pajamas, but he still couldn't shake the cold in his heart. Lying in bed, he felt his body tremble, his consciousness wavering.

His mind kept flashing images of Emma lying on a hospital bed. He thought, 'Was Emma in this much pain before she died? No! She must have been a hundred times more in pain than I am.'

As time passed, George's condition worsened, his consciousness drifting between clarity and confusion, constantly recalling moments with Emma.

Finally, he fell into a coma, but a smile tugged at his lips. Perhaps in his dreams, he could reunite with Emma and feel that warmth and happiness once more.
