Chapter 479 Mind Control
Emma and Lucas followed the police, watching the chaos unfold.
Emma felt something was off.
Scarlett's way of touching George was too intimate, and the look in her eyes was far from motherly—it was more like a twisted obsession.
Lucas whispered to Emma, "Mom, Grandma's acting really weird today. The way she's looking at Dad... it's like she wants to eat him. Do you think Grandma's turned into a child-eating monster?"
As the police began questioning what had happened, Scarlett's expression shifted from sorrow to a terrifying rage.
Her eyes turned bloodshot, and she looked like a wild animal that had lost its mind. She suddenly screamed hysterically, "It's all Emma's fault! She ruined my George! She's a jinx!"
She lunged at Emma like a madwoman, her hands clawing wildly, her sharp nails nearly piercing Emma's skin.
"It's because of you that George is like this!" Her voice was so shrill and piercing, and it echoed through the entire room.
Phoenix continued to scream and shout, her hair a wild mess, her eyes crazed and twisted. "I just wanted to teach that brat a lesson!" She pointed at Lucas, spitting with rage, her face contorted, "Who knew they'd be so fragile! These damn people!"
She suddenly grabbed a nearby water glass and smashed it to the ground with all her might.
The glass shattered, sending shards flying everywhere, leaving sharp marks on the floor. The room was instantly filled with her hysterical screams and a sense of impending chaos.
"I'll kill you all!" Phoenix roared, her eyes filled with a murderous intent, "No one can stop me! You'll all pay for this!" She trembled violently, looking more terrifying than a wild beast.
Lucas clung tightly to Emma, both of them never having seen Scarlett so deranged. She no longer resembled the dignified woman they knew; she was a lunatic, radiating a chilling madness.
The police, seeing Scarlett's breakdown, quickly realized she might have severe mental issues. To prevent further incidents, several officers cautiously prepared to restrain her, fearing she might suddenly lash out.
"Mrs. Scarlett Russell, please calm down!" the lead officer commanded, his voice cautious, "We need to take you for a professional psychological evaluation to ensure your safety and the safety of others."
Just as the police were about to apprehend Scarlett, the door burst open with a heavy thud. Jack strode in, his face grim, pulling a medical report from his black briefcase with a calm, prepared demeanor.
"This is her psychiatric evaluation," Jack said, handing the report to the police with a detached tone, "She has been diagnosed by a certified psychiatrist as mentally ill."
The police carefully examined the report, flipping through the pages, and confirmed the stamps and signatures were authentic. Their attitude subtly shifted, their wariness replaced by cautious sympathy.
"Mr. Russell, please make sure Mrs. Scarlett Russell is properly supervised," the officer instructed, his tone polite but distant. "We can't have her harming anyone else."
"Of course, I'll keep a close eye on her. Don't worry," Jack assured them, sounding almost indifferent.
After the police left, Jack approached Emma, his voice cold and menacing. "This ends here. Mentally ill people aren't held legally responsible for murder. I suggest you stay out of this."
Emma and Lucas felt a chilling fear run down their spines. Phoenix stood behind Jack, smiling sinisterly, her eyes gleaming with a terrifying light.
Emma knew that confronting someone as unstable as Scarlett would only lead to unnecessary harm and risk. More importantly, she was physically weak and had to protect young Lucas. As a responsible mother, she had to prioritize Lucas's safety above all else.
After a quick but careful consideration, Emma decided to leave the dangerous room with Lucas immediately.
Jack then turned to Phoenix, his gaze sharp and oppressive. His eyes were cold and authoritative. "If you keep this up, the consequences will be severe. No one can save you if you continue. Don't forget the price you paid for the power and money from that man!"
Jack patted Phoenix's cheek. "You need to behave. Only act out when that man needs you to. Otherwise, stay calm."
He pulled a bottle of pills from the inside pocket of his dark suit, pouring a handful of different colored pills into his hand and shoving them into Phoenix's mouth. "Take these and calm down. Don't cause trouble. Understand?"
Phoenix obediently swallowed the pills. As they went down her throat, her eyes became vacant, her gaze unfocused, as if her soul had been drained.
Jack walked to the dark corner of the room, turned his back to Phoenix, and made a low, secretive phone call. "Boss, it's handled. I'll keep a close watch on Phoenix and release her to cause some trouble if necessary."
A deep male voice on the other end seemed to ask about the details and potential risks.
Jack sneered, his voice laced with malice. "Don't worry, everything is under control. There won't be any surprises."
Phoenix couldn't understand how things had spiraled out of control.
A few days ago, Phoenix had suffered a devastating loss at a high-profile jewelry design competition, instantly becoming the target of harsh online criticism.
The overwhelming negative comments flooded her social media, eroding her remaining pride and dignity, and leaving her emotionally distressed and damaged.
