Chapter 138 Breaking Off the Engagement

At that moment, everyone was just standing there, totally stunned.

People near Anna instinctively took a step back, wanting to distance themselves from such a nasty woman.

Some folks stayed put, scared they might tick Anna off and face her wrath.

The whole Emma incident had caused quite a buzz, and with the Stuart family spreading the word, almost everyone in the upper circles had heard about Emma's supposed actions. Outsiders, not knowing the full story, naturally bought into it.

But the real story was actually like this!

All eyes zeroed in on Anna, especially George, whose gaze was as sharp as a knife.

"He's lying! I didn't do it!" Anna quickly defended herself, knowing she had to clear her name. But right now, no one was buying it. They only believed in hard evidence.

In the fancy banquet hall, the guests' chatter was deafening. Tom's move made the whole celebration awkward and tense, with everyone staring at Anna, voices of accusation rising one after another.

"She's a nasty piece of work, knowing Emma was innocent but still dragging her name through the mud!" one guest said with disdain.

"Yeah, how could she be so heartless, plotting with a scumbag to frame her own sister!" another guest chimed in, full of contempt.

Anna's face went pale. She gripped her wine glass tightly, trying hard to keep it together.

Then Sophia stood up, her voice loud and firm. "How can you say that about Anna? She has never done anything to wrong Emma!"

"Yes, please calm down, everyone. Tonight is important for the Russell Group, and we shouldn't let personal grudges ruin the mood." Henry also frowned slightly, trying to smooth things over with a calm tone.

"You don't know the truth!" Anna angrily shot back, her voice shaky but firm. "I have never done anything to wrong Emma! It's Tom who's talking nonsense!"

But the accusations didn't stop; they only got louder. Sophia held her hand tightly, her eyes full of determination and protection. She told Anna, "No matter what happens, I will stand by your side."

At that moment, George's stern gaze swept over everyone, like he was searching for something.

Anna's heart was a mix of hope and fear. She wanted to prove her innocence to him, but she was scared he would believe the rumors.

'George, you have to believe me!' she silently prayed, but George's face was emotionless, deep in thought, leaving her heart in utter despair.

"George, come over and help Anna explain. Tell them Anna is innocent and this video is fake. Emma must be jealous of Anna, so she staged this. Emma wants to deceive you."

"Is that true, Anna? I'll ask you one last time. Did you blind Emma and kill the child in her womb? Did you arrange for Emma to suffer in prison?" George's eyes flashed with disappointment and hatred. He hated Anna for being so cruel, hurting Emma. He also hated himself for not seeing the truth and continuing to hurt Emma.

He vividly remembered Emma clinging to his pant leg, crying and begging him to believe her. But he just walked away, never trusting her even once.

Anna framing Emma. If he had paid attention, he could have seen it from the start.

A long time ago, Emma had shown him a video, proof that she didn't steal the necklace.

But he deleted that video, just to protect Anna.

For Emma's death, the culprits weren't just Anna and Tom, but also him. If he hadn't indulged Anna, she wouldn't have become so reckless.

At that moment, the live broadcast continued.

As if to confirm George's suspicions, Emma pulled out another stack of documents.

"Anna blinded Emma. And you hired those thugs who kidnapped Emma, right? I found them too. They're willing to testify in court."

"How is that possible? I gave them $200,000. Why would they betray me?" Tom shouted in disbelief.

Emma laughed bitterly, never thinking her eyes were so cheap.

The guests were once again shocked. Anna was truly malicious, not only taking George but also trying to kill Emma. Her framing methods were endless, truly pushing Emma to the brink of death!

"Why did you do all this?" George tried hard to suppress his anger, asking Anna.

"It is because of you! Your eyes were always on Emma, so I framed her. But every time, you would forgive her, showing your true love for her. I won't allow that because you are mine. George, I love you so much it drives me crazy. I can't be without you for a minute. I can't stand any woman being around you!"

Anna finally couldn't hold back her emotional breakdown, crying hysterically. Her voice was particularly piercing in the noisy crowd, full of despair and anger, tears rolling down her cheeks, soaking her evening gown.

"George, please don't give up on me!" Anna's voice carried a tremor, her eyes full of hope and fear. She tried to reach out to him.

However, George just looked at her coldly, his eyes devoid of any warmth. He slightly turned, leaving heartbroken Anna standing there.

"George! You can't just leave me like this!" Anna's voice became sharp, filled with despair, but George's figure only grew more determined, and he walked resolutely to the other end of the banquet.

Her heart felt as if it was being torn apart, tears uncontrollably streaming down. Her cries echoed in the banquet hall, but only cold stares and whispers accompanied her.

In her cries, George suddenly stopped. A glimmer of hope flashed in Anna's eyes.

"Our engagement is off."

Without surprise, George walked away with large strides.
