Chapter 216 Give up Emma
Scarlett knew that threatening George with her own life was pointless. They both understood that she would never actually go through with it.
She hated having such a smart son, but George was also her pride and joy.
She couldn't let that wretched woman Isabella ruin George.
Since this method was blocked, she would take another. George held the late Emma in high regard, so she would use Emma to threaten him.
"George, if you insist on this, then I'll have to give up on Emma."
George's heart sank. "What do you mean?"
"It's simple. If you don't marry Anna, I'll erase Emma's name from the family records and destroy her grave. Weigh it yourself, George. Emma or Isabella? You only choose the one!"
In Scarlett's eyes, neither Emma nor Isabella was worth much, but George cared about them, she could only employ this method to compel George to make a choice.
"Mom, do you have to push me like this?" George's voice was filled with exhaustion. Both Isabella and Emma were equally important to him. He couldn't choose between them; he couldn't abandon either.
"As long as you agree to the marriage, I won't push you anymore. What's so great about Isabella? She left you without a second thought. She doesn't have the heart to share your burdens."
"Mom, if you don't stop talking, I'll have you thrown out," George interrupted Scarlett's nagging.
Scarlett raised her eyebrows in surprise. "They wouldn't dare. George, you must agree to marry Anna today, or I'll make your life miserable! You care about Emma, right? I'll destroy her grave and see if you can still mourn her. Don't think I don't know you visit her with 99 roses. You better believe it – one phone call from me, and her grave will be nothing but ashes."
Scarlett held her phone, her thumb hovering over the call button. If George refused, she would dial immediately.
George could see she wasn't bluffing.
"Fine, I agree." George's short response caught Scarlett off guard. She thought she would have to argue more, but he agreed so easily.
"But I have my own conditions. The wedding must be exactly as I want, and Anna cannot become a member of my family." Scarlett nodded eagerly before George even finished.
She continued, "It's okay; whatever you want, as long as you get married."
"I have one final request: no marriage certificate." George said.
"What? No marriage certificate? How is that a marriage?" Scarlett was frantic, but George wouldn't budge. He had already sacrificed by agreeing to the wedding, but there would be no certificate.
Anna just wanted a wedding, right? He'd give her that.
Scarlett's expression was as if she'd swallowed a fly. She tried to speak several times but the words wouldn't come out.
Finally, she nodded. "Fine, just a wedding."
The media wouldn't know the details. As long as there was a wedding, it would satisfy both families. The marriage certificate issue would be Anna's problem.
If Anna couldn't handle that, she wasn't worth the effort.
Scarlett added, "The wedding will be in five days. Is that okay?"
"No problem." George quickly agreed.
It made Scarlett uneasy. Would he back out?
George saw her concern. "Don't worry, I'll make sure it's a wedding to remember."
George emphasized "remember," but Scarlett, immersed in her happiness, didn't notice his tone. She thought her threat had worked.
Isabella wasn't so special after all. George gave her up easily.
Scarlett immediately texted Anna: [Wedding in five days.]
Scarlett's tone was cold, but Anna was ecstatic. She grabbed the credit card Sophia had given her and went on a shopping spree.
The next day, news spread through Lakeside Haven that Anna had spent a billion dollars on an antique ruby.
Her actions sparked jealousy and discontent.
But the ruby wasn't for herself; it was a gift for Scarlett, who was pleased with Anna's thoughtfulness.
Despite her reputation, this daughter-in-law was a good choice!
Anna didn't mind the lack of a marriage certificate. She believed that if George could agree to a wedding now, he would eventually accept her fully.
They had been together for so many years. George wouldn't give up on her easily.
She was confident!
"Thank you, Mrs. Russell! I'll cherish George!" Anna's voice was filled with gratitude and excitement. She vowed to make George fall in love with her.
After delivering the gift, Anna eagerly dragged Sophia to pick out a wedding dress.
"Mom, I want the most beautiful one!" Anna's voice was full of excitement.
"Alright, let's go!"
They drove to a luxurious bridal boutique in the city center.
The store was lavishly decorated, with crystal chandeliers casting a brilliant light over every corner, highlighting the elegance of the dresses.
The floor was covered in soft white carpet, making each step feel like walking on clouds, as if entering a dream world. The walls were adorned with gold-framed mirrors, reflecting the grace and nobility of the dresses, making the space feel even more spacious and bright.
The display area was meticulously arranged, a visual feast.
Each dress was carefully hung on ornate racks, surrounded by soft lighting. The designs were unique, some with intricate lace details, others with flowing lines that accentuated elegance and strength.
Anna's eyes roamed over the dresses, each one more beautiful than the last.
Finally, she could wear a wedding dress for George!
