Chapter 170 The Miss Lady Brand's Entrapment
The police officers took notes diligently. One of them asked, "Can you remember anything before you passed out? Did you see anything or anyone suspicious?"
Anna thought for a moment and said, "If there's anything suspicious, it would be Isabella's attitude towards me. She's always been pretty cold to me, but that day she kept smiling and offering me food and drinks. Well, not drinks, it was lemonade. She said alcohol was bad for health, so she specifically prepared two glasses of lemonade."
The police officers carefully noted her words. One of them said, "Thank you, Ms. Stuart. We will investigate thoroughly to ensure the safety of you and your family."
"Is an investigation even necessary?!" Sophia stood up angrily and shouted. "Isabella is the culprit! She must have tried to kill Anna! I'm going to kill her right now!"
Seeing Sophia so agitated, Anna quickly grabbed her hand, trying to calm her down. "Mom, calm down! We need evidence; we can't act impulsively."
Under Anna's "soothing," Sophia's anger only grew, making her want to rush to Isabella and kill that bitch with her own hands.
The police couldn't arrest Isabella based solely on Anna's testimony; for now, they could only try to calm Sophia down. "We understand how you feel, but acting impulsively will only make things worse. Please trust us; we will handle this as quickly as possible."
"What can you handle?" Sophia's voice was filled with disdain. "If Anna gets hurt again, I won't let you off!"
The lead officer said firmly, "Mrs. Stuart, we will ensure the safety of you and your daughter, but you need to stay calm."
"Alright, I'll give you three days." Sophia sneered.
According to her, the evidence was already conclusive, especially with Anna as an eyewitness. The police should arrest Isabella right now.
After the police left, Anna lay pitifully in Sophia's arms, crying silently.
Sophia felt immense heartache and held Anna tightly. "Anna, my poor Anna, don't worry, I will make her pay!!!"
The next afternoon, with the help of a friend, Sophia went to the home of the local Police Chief, Dominic Grant. She held a beautifully wrapped gift box, containing carefully prepared bribes. If she could persuade Dominic, dealing with Isabella would be easy.
Sophia knocked on the door three times. It opened to reveal a respectful and polite maid in a neat black uniform.
"Hello, do you have an appointment?" the maid asked with a smile.
"Yes, my name is Brown," Sophia replied with a polite smile.
The maid, stepped aside upon hearing Sophia's name. "Please come in and have a seat. I'll inform Mr. Grant." She then led Sophia into the house and guided her to the study.
Dominic's study was spacious and bright, with several landscape paintings on the walls. The desk was neatly arranged with documents and office supplies. Dominic sat behind the large desk with a serious look. When he saw Sophia, a hint of admiration flashed in his eyes.
He didn't usually mix with folks in the jewelry biz. But a buddy had mentioned that Sophia, the top dog in the industry, needed his help this time. He knew she was pushing 50, but seeing her today, he was taken aback by how stunning she still was.
Right now, she had her hair pinned up in this classy way, oozing the charm of a mature woman. Every move she made was full of confidence and grace, like time had only made her more alluring.
Sophia was rocking a simple dress today, perfectly tailored to show off her curves while keeping it classy. She must've worked hard to keep such a sexy figure at her age.
Dominic's eyes couldn't help but linger on her, especially on her firm breasts. His gaze grew hotter by the second.
Feeling a bit flustered by Dominic's intense stare, Sophia decided to break the awkwardness. She reached out her right hand for a handshake. Her hand was so soft. Once Dominic held it, he didn't want to let go.
Since she needed his help, Sophia didn't dare pull her hand away. Dominic kept caressing her hand until her face turned red, and only then did he let go.
"Mrs. Stuart, what can I do for you?" Dominic stepped closer, closing the gap between them.
It was then that Sophia realized how tall Dominic was. Standing so close, he made her feel a bit overwhelmed. Her heart was racing, but she had to stay to get things done.
She wasn't some naive girl; she was a woman who'd been married for over twenty years. She knew exactly what Dominic's look meant, but she couldn't just turn him down.
Dominic hadn't done anything yet. If she refused him now, he'd get mad and not help her. All her efforts would go down the drain, and Anna's suffering would be for nothing.
Sophia lowered her head, avoiding Dominic's eyes, and pleaded, "Mr. Grant, I need to talk to you about my daughter Anna's injury."
Dominic frowned a bit and gestured for her to sit down.
Sophia slowly took a seat and then pushed a gift box towards Dominic. "This is a small gift I prepared for you. I hope you'll consider my request."
Dominic's eyes fell on the gift box, and he raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. He opened the box and saw the luxurious items inside, a look of understanding crossing his face.
"Mrs. Stuart, this gift is quite something," Dominic teased.
If he hadn't met Sophia in person, this gift alone would've been enough to get him to help her. But after meeting her, he knew this gift alone wasn't gonna cut it.
Dominic's gaze shifted between the gift box and Sophia. He placed the box on the table and then moved closer to her, his lips almost brushing her neck. "Mrs. Stuart, whether I can help you depends on your sincerity."
