Chapter 169 The Framed Past
"What are you doing?!" Anna was caught off guard as Emma pinned her against the wall with one hand.
Ignoring Anna's reaction, Emma locked the door behind her. For a moment, Anna panicked. She had no idea what Isabella intended to do. Could Isabella have already figured out her plan? Impossible! She hadn't told anyone about it; there was no way Isabella could know.
Seeing the panic in Anna's eyes, Emma smirked and asked, "Why did you call me here? What do you want?"
"Nothing much, just wanted to apologize," Anna said, picking up a glass of lemon water from the table and handing it to Emma. "You must be thirsty. Have a drink to soothe your throat."
Emma took it but didn't drink. No matter what Anna gave her, she would never put it in her mouth.
Anna, of course, knew this. She took a sip of her own lemon water. "I'll drink first."
After saying that, Anna drank half of the lemon water and then invited Isabella to sit down.
"Want to eat something?" Anna said as she sat on the sofa.
Isabella wanted to see what she was up to, so she sat down but didn't touch the food on the table.
Anna enthusiastically handed the utensils to Isabella, who held them for a moment before putting them down.
Isabella said, "If you think you can drug me, that's a bit too cliché. Besides, given our relationship, there's no way I'd eat or drink anything you offer. There's no one else here, Ms. Stuart. You can drop the act."
Anna shot back, "Why are you so paranoid? I just want to say sorry."
Isabella sneered, "You think I can trust you? Remember what happened the last time you tried to apologize?"
Anna's eyes darkened with malice. Oh, she remembered alright. She'd never forget the humiliation Isabella caused her. She was hell-bent on getting even.
Anna mumbled some nonsense. This time, she didn't lose it or hurt Emma.
Emma sat there, bored out of her mind, and eventually left. Since Anna wanted to put on a show, Emma would play along. After all, the bigger the scene, the more dirt would stick to Anna.
Anna didn't stop her, just watching her go.
Anna's plan was already halfway there. She went back to her room, shut the door, and downed half a glass of spiked lemonade. Her eyelids were getting heavy, and she was about to pass out.
Fighting the sleepiness, she turned on the gas and called Sophia. The call connected, but Anna was already out cold.
In the empty room, Sophia's frantic voice echoed, "Anna! What's going on? Where are you? Anna, answer me!"
Sophia's phone was still connected. She hadn't seen Anna all day and was worried sick. She'd called Anna a million times, but no answer.
By chance, she ended up in Anna's room and saw a notebook on her desk. On a whim, she opened it and realized it was Anna's diary.
Sophia hadn't planned on reading it, but Anna's recent behavior freaked her out so much she needed to know what was up. So she opened it and saw that Anna was planning to apologize to Isabella in person.
Anna had written all about Isabella texting her to meet at 8 PM at the Stardust Dreams Hotel.
Sophia checked the time; it was 8:15 PM. Anna must've gone to the meeting! That call must've been a cry for help. Anna was with that snake Isabella!
Sophia's gut told her she needed to call the cops right away to save Anna.
"Please hurry! My daughter might be in danger!" Sophia said urgently on the phone, her voice shaking.
She gripped the phone so tight her nails dug into her palm.
A few minutes later, the cops showed up, and Sophia led them to the Stardust Dreams Hotel. Her heart pounded with fear, her mind racing with images of Anna in trouble. Thinking of the devious Isabella made her blood boil.
"Follow me!" Sophia said, meeting the cops in the hotel lobby and heading straight for the room without a second thought.
She pounded on the door, her voice echoing down the hallway, "Anna! Are you in there? Open up!"
The cops busted down the door and rushed in.
The room reeked of gas, and the police instantly knew it was serious. Sophia followed closely, her heart clenching with dread.
Inside, Anna was sprawled on the floor, pale and unconscious. Plates of half-eaten food and a glass of water with lemon slices were scattered around her, adding to the eerie scene. The cops immediately called for an ambulance.
"It's gas poisoning! Quick, she needs oxygen!" One officer carried Anna to a ventilated area and started first aid.
Another officer quickly searched for the gas leak.
Sophia knelt beside Anna, gently holding her hand, feeling her body grow colder. Her hatred for Isabella intensified. She wanted to find her and demand answers.
The paramedics arrived soon, quickly placing Anna on a stretcher and preparing to take her to the hospital. While the police began investigating the scene, trying to piece together what had happened.
After some rescue efforts, Anna slowly opened her eyes, still seeing the white walls and glaring lights. This reassured Anna; she had won her gamble once again.
"Anna, you're finally awake! How do you feel? Is anything hurting?" Sophia's voice was filled with endless worry.
Anna shook her head slightly.
At that moment, a few police officers walked into the room. Seeing Anna awake, they immediately approached, "Ms. Stuart, we're investigating this incident. Can you tell us what happened?"
Anna struggled to sit up, glanced at the police officers, took a moment to gather her thoughts, and then said, "Today, I got a text from Isabella asking me to meet her at the Stardust Dreams Hotel. I figured she wanted to talk about George, so I went. When I got there, she said she wanted to treat me to dinner and apologized, promising not to interfere with my relationship with George anymore. I thought she wanted to make peace, so I sat down to eat with her. But as we were eating, I started to feel dizzy and then blacked out."
