Chapter 629 Wedding
Sophia had hurt Emma many times before; she couldn't keep doing it.
So, this time, she decided to trust Emma's reasons.
Back in her room, Wanda immediately called George, her voice dripping with sweetness, "George, Lucas has a fever. Can you come over and check on him? I'm really scared of being alone."
"I'll be right there," he replied shortly.
Half an hour later, George showed up at the Stuart Villa. Wanda had already changed into a simple, elegant outfit, her hair casually tied up, looking like a worried mother.
"George!" She ran up to him, naturally linking her arm with his. "Lucas has been complaining about a headache. I'm so worried."
George let her lead him into the children's room. Lucas was lying in bed, his little face flushed with fever. Seeing George, the child weakly called out, "Daddy."
The call made George's heart ache. He instinctively sat by the bed, gently stroking Lucas's forehead. "Daddy's here."
Wanda stood by, watching the scene with jealousy. But she quickly adjusted her emotions and brought over a basin of warm water. "George, can you help me wipe Lucas down?"
The two of them worked together to take care of Lucas, Wanda occasionally looking at George with admiration. "You're such a good dad."
George didn't respond, but Wanda noticed his gaze softened. She sneered inwardly: Men really do like this kind of image.
Late into the night, Lucas's fever finally subsided a bit. Sophia urged them to rest, offering to stay up and watch over him.
Wanda wasn't about to miss this opportunity. She gently but firmly said, "Mom, you go to sleep. George and I will stay here."
Once Sophia left, Wanda's expression changed. She looked at the sleeping Lucas with cold eyes. "This little brat almost ruined my plans."
George looked at her, puzzled. "Emma?"
Wanda quickly put on a smile. "I mean, Lucas being sick is so heartbreaking." She discreetly took out a sleeping pill from her bag and dissolved it in water. "Here, let's give Lucas some water."
George, suspecting nothing, helped Lucas drink. Lucas, half-awake, drank a few sips and soon fell into a deeper sleep.
"Alright," Wanda said, satisfied as Lucas lost consciousness. "We can rest now, too."
The next morning, Sophia found Lucas unresponsive, tears streaming down her face. "Emma! Lucas isn't right! We need to get him to the hospital!"
Wanda calmly walked over, pretending to check him. "Mom, don't worry. The doctor said he might be sleepy after the fever." She glanced at her watch. "My wedding is about to start. We'll deal with this after the ceremony."
George stood at the door, his brow furrowed. "Should we postpone the wedding?"
"No!" Wanda's voice rose sharply, then softened. "George, we've come so far. Are we really going to give up over something small?"
George looked at the unconscious Lucas, torn. The hypnotic power made him unable to resist Wanda, but his paternal instincts worried him.
"Let's go," Wanda whispered in his ear, linking her arm with his. "Once we're officially married, we'll take Lucas to the best hospital."
And so, under Wanda's insistence, the wedding went on as planned. In the dressing room, she wore a luxurious wedding gown, smiling triumphantly. Meanwhile, in the hospital bed, Lucas remained unconscious, his small body looking especially fragile against the white sheets.
Sophia had taken Lucas to the hospital, and to her surprise, neither she nor her son attended the wedding. Her "daughter" didn't seem to care at all.
In the church, crystal chandeliers cast dazzling light, guests mingled in their finest attire, and glasses clinked. Wanda, in her floor-length white gown, stood at the end of the red carpet, arm in arm with George, greeting each guest with a perfect smile. She straightened her back deliberately, making the diamond necklace sparkle under the lights. This was her dream moment, finally becoming George's rightful wife.
"Congratulations, George!" Guests came forward to offer their congratulations.
George nodded slightly, but his expression was somewhat distracted. His gaze occasionally flicked towards the church entrance, as if expecting something.
At that moment, Jack and Scarlett walked in gracefully. Scarlett wore a dark green gown, looking regal, but her eyes were as cold as ice. She saw the bride from afar, a mocking smile curling her lips.
"Mom, Dad," George greeted them.
Scarlett ignored George, her sharp gaze piercing Wanda. "Emma, you really have some nerve."
Wanda was startled but quickly composed herself. She raised her chin, meeting Scarlett's gaze without flinching. "Mrs. Russell, what do you mean? George and I truly love each other."
"Love?" Scarlett sneered, "You went to great lengths to marry George, and now you won't let us go!"
The surrounding guests sensed the tension and fell silent, straining to hear the confrontation.
Wanda cursed Scarlett inwardly for causing trouble, but outwardly maintained her elegant smile. "Mrs. Russell, let's leave the past behind. Today is George and my big day. As an elder, shouldn't you bless us?"
"Bless you?" Scarlett's voice rose sharply. "A scheming woman like you, joining the Russell family?"
George frowned, stepping forward to shield Wanda. "Mom, Emma saved you. You shouldn't treat her like this."
"Saved me?" Scarlett scoffed at George, "That was all her orchestrated act! Just to make you fall for her!"
Wanda was delighted. The more Scarlett scolded, the more innocent and pitiful "Emma" appeared. Besides, Scarlett was scolding Emma, not her!
But she still managed to tear up, her voice filled with grievance. "Mrs. Russell, I know you never liked me, but please don't insult my feelings for George."
Jack, seeing the situation getting out of hand, coughed lightly to mediate. "Scarlett, it's the kids' wedding today. Let's talk about this later."
Scarlett snorted, shaking off Jack's hand. "You and George are both blinded by this, Emma! Don't think wearing a wedding dress makes you George's wife!"
Wanda's smile finally faltered. She gripped her bouquet tightly, her nails almost digging into her palm. "Mrs. Russell, please show some respect."
"Respect?" Scarlett scoffed, "You think you deserve to say that to me?"
