Chapter 107 Accident
George stood near the entrance, unable to tear his eyes away from Emma. Her face was a dead ringer for Emma's, and it hit him hard.
His heart pounded, memories of Emma flooding back. The longing and pain he'd buried for three years surged up like a tidal wave. His eyes were glued to her, the rest of the world fading away.
He never realized he could be this obsessed with Emma. Next to him, Anna's face darkened with jealousy and anger. She wanted to rip apart Isabella's face, the one that looked so much like Emma's. When she saw the photos Sophia sent, she thought the woman looked a bit like Emma. But seeing her in person, Anna felt it was uncanny.
After all the effort to get rid of Emma, now there was a lookalike.
'George, I'll get rid of even Emma's replacement from your heart! I won't let you look at another woman,' Anna thought, seething.
Anna gritted her teeth, vowing to drive Emma out of George's sight.
"George, what are you staring at?" Anna asked, trying to sound casual but failing to hide her annoyance.
"Nothing," George replied, brushing her off, his eyes still locked on Emma. He decided he'd find her after the show and ask where she'd been all these years.
Just as he was about to move, Anna grabbed his wrist. "George, I'm giving a speech on stage later. Want to join me?"
"I'm not going," George said, a hint of impatience in his voice.
If it weren't for his engagement to Anna, he wouldn't have come to this show at all.
"Come on, George, please!" Anna pleaded, shaking his arm playfully. It looked like a sweet moment, but George was dying to shake her off.
He didn't want Anna touching him, but he couldn't push her away because of his promise.
Anna knew George well and could see his impatience. But if she could get his attention back, it was worth it.
Her persistence did pull George's focus back. Since Emma's death, he seemed to recognize Anna less and less.
Her kindness and innocence seemed to have died with Emma. He couldn't help but wonder if Anna was really Emily.
As George turned to face Anna, Emma's gaze fell on him. She watched as George and Anna held hands, noting Anna's gentle demeanor.
After three years, George and Anna's relationship had indeed grown deeper.
George brushed off Anna's words. Just then, the fashion show organizer came to discuss some details with Anna, giving George a moment of relief. When he looked back for Emma, she had already disappeared into the crowd.
He felt a pang of loss, like something important had slipped away.
The show officially began, and the lights dimmed. Anna, the designer, stepped onto the stage, beaming as she greeted the audience. Despite the earlier drama, she knew this was her moment to shine.
"Thanks for coming, everyone. I'm Anna, and today I'm unveiling my new collection." Her voice was steady and confident, earning her a round of applause.
But she caught a few whispers nearby, mocking her designs.
"Showing off plagiarized work, huh?"
Anna's heart skipped a beat. She scanned the crowd but couldn't pinpoint who said it. No one knew these designs were Emma's.
Pushing down her unease, she continued, "I believe today's show will offer you a unique visual experience." She smiled, radiating elegance.
As the music kicked in, models strutted down the runway like ethereal beings. The audience was captivated, their eyes glued to the stage. Each model showcased the stunning clothes and jewelry with grace.
The show was a hit. The applause was deafening, slowly restoring Anna's confidence.
After the show, Anna stood center stage, ready to drop some big news.
"I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be opening a boutique at 1 Crystal Street. I hope you'll all come and support me!" Her voice was strong, and the audience responded with enthusiastic applause.
"This moment deserves to be celebrated. I'll be signing the purchase contract for the 1 Crystal Street store right here, marking a new chapter in my career!" Anna's excitement was palpable.
"Wow, she's loaded!"
"1 Crystal Street is the priciest spot in Lakeside Haven. She must really believe in her designs!"
"She's got money to burn. What's wrong with buying a store for fun?"
"Spending three hundred million dollars for fun? If she were my daughter, I'd keep her locked up to avoid bankruptcy."
"She's not using her parents' money. Remember who her fiancé is?"
"Oh, right. But isn't it weird? They've been engaged for three years and have a kid. Why aren't they married yet?"
The murmurs didn't dampen the excitement on stage.
The staff set up the contract, pen, ink pad, and other items. Then, the seller, Lester Harrison, joined her on stage.
Just as Anna was about to sign the contract, a group of firefighters burst into the venue, creating a stir.
"Attention, everyone. We've received a report that the fire safety facilities at 1 Crystal Street are not up to code. The sale is temporarily prohibited," a firefighter announced.
Anna's face went pale. The location she'd planned for so long was off-limits because of this!
