Chapter 120 Ex-Boyfriend
"Hey, has George shown up yet?" Anna asked Henry for the fifth time, catching him at the door while he greeted guests. She was getting pretty antsy.
Anna couldn't help but think about how George had been acting lately. It was making her feel all kinds of insecure.
She'd asked him to marry her more times than she could count, but he always dodged the question. So, she figured she'd corner him into proposing in front of everyone today.
Last night, she even played her final card. If George remembered that childhood promise, he'd have to propose.
But now, the party was about to kick off, and George was still a no-show.
If he didn't show up today, Anna would be the laughingstock of Lakeside Haven.
She couldn't let that happen! She wanted to be the star of the show, the most dazzling woman in town!
Just when it seemed like everyone had arrived and the party was about to start, George finally walked in.
Anna frowned at his outfit. He was dressed way too casually, even more so than his usual work clothes.
He had on a laid-back getup, with some sand on his shoes and a faint smell of blood on his clothes. It was like he didn't care about today at all!
However, George looked tall and handsome, standing out with that mature charm of his.
Anna noticed some women sneaking glances at him, some even blushing and giggling as they walked by.
Her annoyance melted away, and she proudly took George's arm.
With George there, the music started, and the party really got going. It was time to dance.
Anna's friends gathered around her, and they all started dancing. They moved gracefully to the beat, their laughter and cheers filling the hall.
After the lively dance, the music shifted to a softer, more romantic tune. Sophia and Henry joined in, dancing with big smiles. Today was Anna's birthday, and it was supposed to be the day George proposed.
When the cake came out, everyone knew what was up. All eyes were on Anna and George, as they all waited for the big moment.
The cake was a fancy multi-layered one, decked out with flowers and fruits. But no one cared about the cake right then. The guests clapped and cheered.
Then, the lights dimmed, leaving just a few warm wall lamps casting a golden glow.
With a soft click, a dreamy starry sky appeared on the ceiling, setting the perfect scene. At Anna's feet, a small ground light lit up a path leading straight to George. In the dim light, roses, lilies, and tulips mingled together, their scents more intense than ever.
A few clear balloons floated above, each with a tiny light inside, adding a playful touch to the starry sky scene.
Even the wine glasses on the tables had a faint glow. Everyone held their breath, waiting for the magic moment.
The sound tech played classic love songs, setting a romantic vibe.
As the music played, the lights shifted between warm gold and soft blue, making everything look even more beautiful.
"George, are you ready?" Anna thought, walking down the sparkling path. Her dress swayed gently, making her look like a flower in bloom.
Seeing her, George felt a mix of emotions. Even though he was looking at Anna, he couldn't help but think of Emma.
His assistant handed him the ring, and George rubbed the velvet case, feeling the weight of the moment.
Everyone held their breath, waiting for George to make his move. Anna's eyes sparkled with tears; she'd waited so long for this.
Just as George was about to kneel and propose, a loud bang came from the banquet hall door. It sounded like something heavy had hit it.
The staff rushed over and opened the door, revealing a bulging bag at the entrance. Something inside was moving.
A security guard carefully cut open the bag with a utility knife, and out wriggled a man.
It was Anna's ex-boyfriend, Tom. He looked like he'd been thrown hard, rubbing his limbs and crying out in pain.
Tom wasn't part of high society; besides Anna and George, no one else knew him.
George frowned. "Why is this loser Tom here again? What's he up to?" he thought.
Tom remembered what he'd been forced to do today. But seeing all the people, he got scared. If he went through with it, Anna would definitely come after him.
Tom wanted to back out, but the person behind this didn't give him a choice.
A young man stepped out from the crowd, eyeing Tom.
"Aren't you Ms. Stuart's ex-boyfriend? What are you doing here? Trying to ruin the proposal? Think you can compete with George?" he sneered.
The young man was mocking Tom, but he also revealed the truth about Tom and Anna's past.
Hearing this, George narrowed his eyes, and he glared at Anna.
He remembered three years ago, Anna had told him Tom was Emma's boyfriend, or rather, a client.
He'd believed Anna and said awful things about Emma.
But now, this young man was saying Tom was Anna's ex.
'Anna, how many lies have you told me?' George thought.
