Chapter 52 New Job
Emma blinked her eyes open, staring at the unfamiliar white ceiling above. She tried to sit up but got hit with a wave of dizziness and flopped back down. A soft voice drifted to her ears, like someone was having a quiet chat nearby.
"Emma, you're finally awake!" Mia's voice was warm and breezy, instantly grabbing Emma's attention.
"Mia, where am I?" Emma's memory was fuzzy, only recalling being by the roadside.
"You're in the hospital. You fainted last night," Mia said, her eyes full of concern. "Luckily, some guy with a really nice voice brought you here and used your phone to call me."
"A guy?" Emma's heart skipped a beat, and George's face popped into her mind, but she quickly shook it off.
"Yeah, the nurse said he was super handsome," Mia added with a playful grin. "What's the deal with him? Is he chasing after you?"
"No!" Emma shot back, her cheeks turning pink. "Why would anyone chase after someone like me?"
"Of course they would! You're gorgeous and talented. Plenty of guys would be into you, but you've been hung up on that jerk, George."
Was she still into George?
Emma felt a bit lost.
After a few days of rest, free from George and Anna's drama, Emma's body started to bounce back. She spent her time in the hospital thinking about her future. Since she hadn't kicked the bucket, she decided to live her life to the fullest.
Even if her time was short, Emma wasn't about to give up on herself.
She hadn't gotten her revenge yet, and she wasn't going to die without doing that. She sent out a ton of resumes.
Once she was out of the hospital, Emma hit the job hunt hard. She sent out countless resumes and went to a bunch of interviews. Despite all the setbacks, she never gave up.
Finally, on a sunny morning, Emma got a call. A company wanted her for an interview.
"Thank you! I'll be there on time." She almost cheered, her face lighting up with a big smile.
"Welcome to our team. We look forward to working with you," the voice on the other end sounded friendly.
After hanging up, Emma jumped up in excitement, feeling a rush of accomplishment. She had finally landed a job and dressed in a simple but professional outfit.
The company's address was downtown, just a block away from the Russell Group.
As Emma walked to the company building, filled with anticipation and nerves, the sunlight bathed her, casting a golden glow on her future.
But then, out of nowhere, Anna rushed up, holding a cup of fresh coffee. She was probably on her way to see George at the Russell Group and had just grabbed a coffee. Seeing Emma, her face twisted with anger.
"Emma, you're so shameless!" Anna sneered, her tone dripping with mockery. "How dare you show up here? Do you think cozying up to Charles will make you look good in front of George? You're so desperate, you won't even spare an old man."
Emma felt a surge of anger, her face hardening, but she wasn't about to back down. She calmly shot back, "Anna, watch your mouth. Do you think everyone is as shameless as you? Grandpa's smart; he's already seen through your act."
"Really?" Anna scoffed, her eyes blazing with anger. "Emma, you bitch, playing the innocent card all the time. If it weren't for you badmouthing me to Charles and George, why would George suddenly start digging into my past?"
Emma smirked, a bit taken aback. George actually dug into Anna's background? Maybe he wasn't a total lost cause after all.
And judging by Anna's freaked-out look, George must've found something sketchy. Emma felt a wave of satisfaction, thinking, 'Anna, let's see how long you can keep that smug face!'
Emma's cool demeanor only made Anna more furious. Her face turned beet red with jealousy and rage. She decided to wreck Emma's interview.
"You think you can land a decent job? Keep dreaming! You shameless witch, just wait and see how I'll humiliate you!" Anna yelled, raising her coffee cup and flinging the hot liquid at Emma.
Right at that moment, a figure appeared out of nowhere, shielding Emma.
The coffee splashed all over the guy's crisp suit and shirt.
Both Emma and Anna were stunned.
"Miss, throwing hot coffee at someone is considered intentional harm. I could sue you for that," the man said, his deep voice smooth like fine wine, radiating an air of authority.
"Who do you think you are, trying to scare me?" Anna sneered, but when she saw his face, she froze for a second, then arrogantly added, "So what if I meant to cause harm? I was aiming for this tramp. You just showed up out of nowhere."
"Ms. Jones is an officially hired employee of my company. As her boss, it's my duty to protect her."
Emma was floored, saved by her boss by sheer luck. With a personality like that, no wonder he could handle public pressure and hire her.
The more Emma looked at his face, the more familiar he seemed. Where had she seen him before?
Emma felt a rush of emotion, looking up at the man with gratitude in her eyes.
"You dare hire Emma? Don't you even know she is the infamous plagiarist in Lakeside Haven? No jewelry design company will hire her. Anyone who does is going against the Russell family and the Stuart family!" Anna said, her chin held high.
"Alright, I get what you're saying," the man replied calmly, unfazed by Anna's threats. "I'll make sure you pay for your actions. The Stuart family can expect a letter from my lawyer!"
He spoke with a cool confidence, then turned to Emma, "Come with me."
Emma glanced at the dumbfounded Anna, shrugged happily, made a helpless gesture, and then followed him.
With a strong background, a warm personality, and a willingness to protect his employees, he was simply the best boss ever.
Feeling ignored, Anna threw the coffee cup on the ground and stormed off to complain to George.
The man led Emma to the elevator. Looking at this handsome and gentle man, Emma softly said, "Thank you. This is the second time you've helped me."
He was indeed the guy who had taken her to the hospital that day.
Hearing this, the man looked down at Emma and said with a slight smile, "I thought you fainted that day. Turns out you saw my face clearly."
His tone was gentle, his eyes filled with concern, making Emma feel a warmth and surprise.
Not only did this man help her twice, but he also resolved her employment issue. After all, being personally hired by the CEO, the HR department couldn't oppose it.
More importantly, he was someone unafraid of the Russell family and the Stuart family's power!
This was truly a silver lining.
Emma finally wouldn't be fired.
