Chapter 494 Grandma Changed
Each test tube had a label with the patient's information, so even if they got mixed up, it wouldn't be a problem.
Phoenix apologized profusely while pretending to help the nurse pick up the test tubes from the floor.
When the nurse wasn't looking, she tore off the labels from her own and the HIV patient's test tubes and swapped them.
Now, her blood sample and the patient's were switched.
The nurse initially wanted to scold Phoenix, but seeing her sincere, apologetic face, she couldn't bring herself to do it and swallowed her words.
All that was left was to wait for the results.
When Phoenix went to the restroom, she unexpectedly saw Lucas curled up in a corner of the hospital, peeking around as if he was up to something sneaky.
'What is Lucas doing?' she wondered, her eyes following him.
She saw Lucas sneaking down an empty hallway towards the hospital entrance.
Phoenix felt a surge of excitement, a sly smile forming on her lips.
This wasn't the first time she had kidnapped Lucas, but if there were many witnesses this time, and they saw that it was his own grandmother who did it, what kind of uproar would it cause in the Russell family?
This was an opportunity to bring disaster upon the Russell family, and she couldn't miss it.
She quickly followed Lucas, calculating the Russell family's reaction once she succeeded.
As she got closer, she saw Lucas slowly walking towards the hospital exit, looking down at the electronic device in his hand.
At that moment, Lucas seemed to sense something was off. He suddenly looked up, scanning his surroundings with a wary gaze.
Phoenix quickly hid behind a nearby railing, trying to conceal herself.
Lucas kept a close watch on his surroundings, feeling like someone was following him.
But who could it be?
To cover his tracks, he quickly found a hidden corner and quietly hid.
Phoenix anxiously searched for Lucas nearby.
This behavior clearly exposed Phoenix.
Suddenly, Lucas jumped out from his hiding spot. "Grandma, why are you following me?"
His voice, a mix of childishness and thoughtful determination, sent a shiver through Phoenix's sinister plans.
Thinking quickly, Phoenix smiled and said, "I just wanted to take you to the amusement park, Lucas. You'd love it."
She put on what she thought was her most kind and friendly expression. But to Lucas, it looked more like a wolf in sheep's clothing than a loving grandmother.
Lucas knew this was no simple invitation.
He had noticed that Scarlett had been acting strangely lately. She used to only be cold to Emma, but now she didn't even smile at him.
Although he didn't know what was wrong with Scarlett, he could tell she really disliked him now. So, he tried to avoid her as much as possible.
"Grandma, I'm not stupid!"
Phoenix shot Lucas a cold look. "You're just an ungrateful brat!"
But she wasn't one to give up easily. Phoenix reached out to grab Lucas.
"I really do want to take you to have fun, Lucas. Don't you believe me? Why don't you trust me anymore? Is it because your mom has been badmouthing me again? Your mom is no good! She's a wretch!"
"Don't you dare insult my mom! My mom is the best mom in the world! I don't like you anymore, Grandma!"
Lucas was genuinely hurt. In the past, no matter how Scarlett treated Emma, she had always been good to him. So, Lucas had mixed feelings about Scarlett.
But now, Lucas saw Scarlett's insults towards Emma clearly. He was Emma's son, and George had told him he needed to learn to protect Emma.
Moreover, during their time on the island, he had vowed to grow up and protect Emma from any harm.
He couldn't break that promise now, even if it was just a promise to himself.
"A man must keep his word," Emma had said, and Lucas was determined to live by that principle.
Phoenix had no idea that this little boy, who barely reached her chest, had thought so much. She only felt hatred for Emma and Lucas.
She didn't control her volume, attracting the attention of people around them. Many curious eyes turned their way.
Lucas noticed the commotion and thought it was a good thing. As long as people were watching, Scarlett wouldn't easily harm him.
This wasn't Lucas being paranoid; he had seen the hatred and murderous intent in Scarlett's eyes.
It wasn't the first time Lucas had seen that look. He remembered when Phoenix had kidnapped him, she had looked at him the same way.
Wait a minute, something was odd.
Thinking about it, he suddenly realized how much Scarlett's eyes resembled Phoenix's, almost as if they were the same person.
Maybe it was because Scarlett and Phoenix were related. Lucas found a reason for himself, not realizing he had stumbled upon the truth.
Using his pure instincts, Lucas sensed danger. He quickly took a few steps back, looking for an escape route, and without hesitation, dashed towards the hospital exit.
He nimbly jumped down a few steps, heading straight for the crowded area. His agility and quick reflexes caught Phoenix off guard.
Phoenix wasn't one to give up easily and followed closely, thinking, 'I can't let him get away!'
But Lucas' agility and quick reactions made it hard for her to keep up. Lucas weaved through the crowd, using the bustling people to his advantage, turning corners and making it difficult for Phoenix to track him.
"You'll never catch me!" Lucas shouted back at Phoenix as he turned, both reminding himself and taunting her.
His eyes sparkled with determination, and his swift, effective movements amazed the onlookers, as if he could foresee the next danger and opportunity.
Seeing Lucas getting farther away, Phoenix stopped, furious at the missed opportunity. "That little brat is such a hassle!"
Phoenix knew she couldn't win this chase. Her plan was once again facing failure.
Lucas' figure gradually disappeared into the crowd, seemingly returning to safety, while Phoenix's scheme had to be postponed once more.
If she couldn't catch him, so be it. Who knew if Lucas was just sneaking out to play?
He probably wouldn't get into any serious trouble.
Phoenix thought, 'Letting Lucas run off might actually be a good thing.'
With so many cars on the road and a few criminals recently arriving in Lakeside Haven, known for their violent crimes, Lucas might end up in a worse situation than if he were with her.
This way, she wouldn't be a suspect, and Lucas might still meet a grim fate. It was a win-win.
But how could she ensure Lucas encountered those criminals?
She needed to plan carefully.
