Chapter 47 Kidnapping

It was Lucas! The little dude was just chillin' by the roadside, looking around like he lost something.

'Lost, huh?' Emma thought, noticing a few folks giving Lucas the side-eye, some even walking up to chat with him.

Lucas was just a tiny tot, barely two years old, wobbling on his feet and not really able to say much.

In his sweet, tiny voice, he was crying out for his mom.

Then, outta nowhere, this sketchy guy started creeping up on Lucas. Emma's heart skipped a beat, sensing trouble. Without thinking twice, she dashed over, planted herself in front of Lucas, and shot the guy a death glare. "What do you want?" she snapped.

"Just trying to help him find his mom," the guy said with a creepy grin, clearly not planning to back off.

"Don't you dare touch him!" Emma yelled, her mama bear instincts flaring up. She shoved the guy hard, not breaking eye contact until he backed off a few steps, giving her a moment to breathe.

Lucas recognized her and broke into a big, toothy grin. "Emma," he said, reaching out his tiny hand to grab hers.

Once he had her hand, he started shaking her arm, acting all cute and spoiled.

Emma's heart melted. Lucas then spread his arms wide, "Hug!"

Holding his small, soft body felt like a cure for everything.

"Lucas, let's go find your dad," Emma said, holding his little hand, silently thanking her lucky stars she got there in time. But after some searching, she realized Anna was nowhere to be found.

She tried calling George, but no luck.

Turned out, he had blocked her number.

With no other options, she decided to take Lucas to the Russell Mansion since she had to go there anyway.

They grabbed a cab and sat in the back, with Lucas beside her. He was too young to get what being lost meant, just curiously watching the unfamiliar taxi and the busy streets.

The more Emma looked at Lucas, the more she liked him. He looked a lot like George. If her daughter were still alive, would she look like George too?

But as the car kept moving, Emma felt a wave of sleepiness hit her. Her eyelids got heavy, and before she knew it, she was out cold.

When she woke up, it was to a slap from Anna. Her face stung, and her head felt all foggy.

Then she heard Anna's hysterical screams, "Where did you hide Lucas? Please, give Lucas back to me! Why are you so heartless? No matter how much you hate me, Lucas is innocent. What did you do to my son?"

The words hit her like a ton of bricks. Emma had said something similar to Anna once.

But what was going on now?

What did Anna mean by saying this stuff to her?

"Emma, speak up! Where did you hide Lucas? Tell me!" Anna screamed again, while Emma's mind was still a mess.

"Lucas?" Emma's heart sank as she looked around, realizing she was at her own place. But Lucas, who had been right there with her, was gone.

A chill ran up her spine, making her whole body shiver. She couldn't wrap her head around what had happened.

"Emma, I didn't think you'd actually go through with it," a cold, bone-chilling voice suddenly said above her.

Right, she had said those words. She had warned Anna to watch out, that she might come after her and Lucas. But that was just in anger!

She liked Lucas so much; how could she possibly kidnap him?!

"Emma, I'm begging you, just give Lucas back to me, and I won't ask for anything else! I'll make sure George treats you well, just please give Lucas back to me."

Anna clung to Emma, begging like her life depended on it. Emma's heart was pounding with fear and despair. Facing Anna and George's accusations, she tried to explain, "I found Lucas lost on Starlight Symphony Street, I just wanted to take him home..."

"Emma, why are you still lying now?" Anna was on her knees, tears streaming down her face, looking totally broken. "We checked the surveillance footage. You took my son! Where is he now?"

"I don't know. I fell asleep in the car..." Emma's voice was shaky, filled with helplessness. "Yes! I fell asleep! The driver was sketchy!"

"Emma, do you really enjoy doing such messed-up things?" George's voice was ice-cold, his eyes full of disappointment and anger. "I'll give you one last chance. If you don't talk, I'll personally send you back to prison."

George's words cut through Emma like a knife. Her body started trembling as she remembered those thousand-plus days and nights in prison.

The physical and mental torture, she couldn't go through that again.

Emma pleaded, crying, clinging to George's pants, her tears blurring her vision. "George, please believe me!"

She screamed, almost in despair. She remembered how she had once begged him like this, only to be kicked away.

But now, he seemed to hesitate a bit.

Just when Emma thought George might let her off this time, Anna's crying pushed him over the edge, "George, Lucas will be gone from us forever..."

That sentence snapped George's patience, and he called the cops.

Soon, the police showed up, and a wave of panic hit Emma. She knew things had spiraled out of control. The cops moved in to arrest her, and Emma felt powerless, her heart sinking.

"You can't do this to me!" She struggled, her eyes flashing with anger and desperation, but it was no use.

"Please calm down." The cop's voice was firm, dragging her away.

As she was shoved into the police car, Emma's heart was filled with helplessness. She looked back at George, her eyes pleading, "I really didn't do it!"

But George's eyes were cold, like her words meant nothing. Emma's heart shattered, and she closed her eyes in despair, tears streaming down her face.

In the interrogation room, Emma faced endless questioning. The cops' words were like daggers. She cried out her innocence, "I didn't kidnap Lucas!"

But no matter how much she explained, the cops ignored her, their eyes full of suspicion. Her heart was filled with despair, feeling trapped in an endless nightmare.

After several days, Emma was finally released. She walked out of the prison gates, feeling exhausted and lost. She didn't know where to go, only hoping to find Lucas and clear her name.

As she stepped out, George was there, his face cold and disdainful. Emma's heart tightened, not knowing why he was there.

Just as she was about to speak, George threw her phone on the ground in front of her, grabbed her by the collar, and yanked her close. "You and this guy conspired to kidnap my son, didn't you? Emma, what are you trying to deny now?"
