Chapter 273 Don't Know
"If you want a kid so bad, why don't you have one yourself?" George snapped at Scarlett, clearly out of patience. "I'm only marrying Isabella. As for these people..."
George flung the photos in his hand, letting them scatter across the floor.
"Lucas, let's go!" George called out, and Lucas came running over with his short little legs. "Your grandma doesn't want you, so we won't be coming back."
George held Lucas's small hand, and in that moment, Lucas felt George's protection.
So this is what it feels like to have a dad looking out for you.
George felt a pang in his heart too. Lucas's hand was so small, it could only grasp one of his fingers. It seemed to be Lucas's entire world.
Anna had to go, but Lucas was staying.
As for Scarlett not liking Isabella and Lucas, well, they just wouldn't meet. Who he married and lived with was his choice, and no one could change that!
George and Isabella's wedding was held at the largest seven-star hotel in Lakeside Haven. This wedding was even grander than Anna's. George had notified everyone.
He wanted the whole world to know he was marrying his love, Isabella.
On the wedding day, the Russell Mansion was eerily quiet. The usual hustle and bustle of servants was nowhere to be seen.
Scarlett sat alone at the dining table, dissatisfied with the meal. She wanted the servants to bring something else, but no one came despite her calls.
"Where did the servants go?"
Scarlett was fuming. It was bad enough George was giving her a hard time, but now even the servants weren't listening to her?
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. She threw her coffee cup to the ground, the sharp sound of breaking glass startling a servant busy in the storeroom.
"Mrs. Russell, what's wrong? Is there something you need?"
"Where did everyone go? Taking their pay but not working! Do they not want their jobs anymore? The Russell family doesn't keep slackers!"
After venting her anger, Scarlett didn't see the usual fearful expression on the servant's face.
The servant looked at Scarlett with a strange expression, making her feel uneasy. "What are you looking at?"
Realizing his rudeness, the servant quickly lowered his head, avoiding Scarlett's gaze. Scarlett felt a suspicion growing inside her. She took a moment to look around her home.
Something was definitely off today. Not only were there fewer servants, but even Charles was missing. "Where did they all go?"
The servant didn't dare speak, staring at his shoes.
Scarlett exclaimed, "I'm asking you a question; can't you hear me?"
The servant hesitated, "They... they went to help with Mr. Russell's wedding."
Scarlett was confused. "Which Mr. Russell?"
'Which Mr. Russell? Of course, it was George,' the servant thought to himself.
Just then, the TV started broadcasting the daily news.
The anchor began, "Good evening, viewers. We bring you a highly anticipated story today. George Russell, CEO of the Russell Group, held a grand wedding at a luxury hotel downtown. The event was spectacular, drawing attention from media and the public alike."
The camera panned over the lavishly decorated wedding venue, with golden balloons, floral arrangements, and sparkling crystal chandeliers creating a romantic and luxurious atmosphere.
The wedding setup was elegant and refined. Guests in glamorous attire beamed with joy. George, in a sharp suit, looked exceptionally handsome, while his bride, Isabella, in a stunning wedding gown, looked like a fairy-tale princess.
At the Russell Mansion, Scarlett sat on the couch, gripping the remote, eyes glued to the TV. As the news anchor's voice filled the room, the screen showed the wedding's grandeur. Her face darkened, anger bubbling up like a volcano about to erupt, mixing with disappointment.
"That insolent George!" Scarlett roared, her voice echoing in the empty living room. She slammed her hand on the couch, nearly breaking the remote. Her disappointment and anger towards George were overwhelming.
All of Lakeside Haven knew about George's wedding today, except for her, his own mother!
Scarlett felt a mix of hurt and rage. As a mother, she should be part of George's major life decisions. And George's choice was Isabella, a woman she never approved of.
"How could he get married behind my back! This is a total disrespect to me!" Scarlett seethed, her anger surging like a tidal wave.
"I always told him Isabella wasn't right for him! She doesn't match our family's status! I've worried about him for so many years, and he just goes and does this!"
She thought of all the effort she had put into George, feeling a deep chill in her heart.
"This wedding isn't just about George and Isabella's love; it's a blessing and expectation from society. We wish them a future full of happiness and joy."
As the news continued, Scarlett's anger and disappointment deepened. The screen showed George and Isabella dancing, surrounded by laughing guests, as if the wedding was perfect.
"I can't just let this go!" Scarlett's resolve hardened. Though she felt exhausted, she knew she had to do something for George's future.
Scarlett thought, 'Isabella. If you think joining the Russell family will be easy, you've got another thing coming!'
