Chapter 23 It Was All Fake

The doc had already bailed, slipping out the back way, but Anna was still hanging around. She let out a soft sigh, "Emma, you really messed up this time. I could let it slide when you pretended to be me and tricked George into thinking you were his childhood buddy, but faking a pregnancy? That's low."

Anna's voice was just loud enough for George to catch every word.

Emma played him! It was all a sham!

The pregnancy, the childhood memories—everything was a lie!

Those sweet memories were just Emma's tools to mess with him! George's mind was boiling with rage, and he didn't even want to ask Anna for the so-called truth. Why would Anna cover for Emma? Did he even need to think about it?

Anna was too kind-hearted, always putting others before herself, even if it meant hiding Emma's lies.

Yeah, it was Anna who he met years ago.

But Emma! She had the nerve to deceive him, and she was gonna pay for it!

George stormed off, the sharp click of his fancy leather shoes echoing on the tiled floor. The sound faded, and a sly smile crept onto Anna's lips.

In the dimly lit hospital room, Emma's pale face looked even weaker. She gently stroked her belly, her heart a mess of emotions. Suddenly, the door flew open, and George barged in, his face twisted with fury.

"Emma, you snake." His voice was like thunder, making the air in the room feel heavy.

Emma flinched and looked up at him, fear flickering in her eyes. "George, I..."

"What more lies do you have?" George was livid, stepping closer with each word, his eyes blazing. "Faking a pregnancy was bad enough, but pretending to be Anna? You think you can get away with this?"

What?

Emma's eyes widened in shock, but she couldn't say a word.

"Emma, you should've known there'd be hell to pay for deceiving me!" George's voice was icy, cutting through Emma's heart. His hand clenched into a fist, barely holding back his rage.

"I didn't lie to you, George." Emma's voice shook, tears welling up, her body trembling from the emotional storm.

"Why won't you admit it?" George's anger exploded. He grabbed Emma by the neck, making her wince in pain.

"George, let go." Emma pleaded softly, feeling utterly helpless. Her frail body couldn't take this kind of abuse.

And George did let go, shoving Emma aside like she was nothing.

Emma crumpled to the floor, hitting her head on the bed's corner. The IV needle ripped out, sending a jolt of pain through her.

Instinctively, she shielded her belly with one hand, painfully crawling up and grabbing George's pant leg with the other. "George, I swear I didn't lie. I really am pregnant. I have a doctor's note. You can take me for a check-up right now. George, please believe me."

Emma used all her strength to grab George's hand, wanting him to feel the baby inside her. It was their baby! A baby she would die to protect!

But George was cold and unfeeling. All he could think about was the betrayal. He stepped on Emma's hand.

"Don't touch me with your filthy hands! Even if you are pregnant, I'll make you get rid of it! You're not worthy! Emma, a woman like you will never be worthy of being with me!"

George turned and left. The thought of even touching Emma with his shoe disgusted him, let alone being in the same room. The air felt so foul he could hardly breathe.

But Emma wasn't giving up. Despite the blood dripping from her fingers, she clung to George's pant leg. "George, don't go. You promised to always protect me. I'm that little girl from back then! Don't you remember? George!"

That hit George's last nerve. She felt a chilling wave of anger.

The next second, George's shoe slammed into Emma's belly. She clutched her stomach in agony, tears blurring her vision as she saw George's terrifying expression. "Emma, you snake!"

"George!" Emma was in so much pain that cold sweat broke out, but George left after those cruel words, completely ignoring her suffering.
