Chapter 79 The Trial

The sky was all moody and gray, like it was crying over Molly's death.

The walls of the jail were cold and hard. Emma was stuck in this tiny cell, drowning in despair and rage. The cops were digging deeper, and all the clues were pointing straight at Emma.

Each piece of evidence was like a chain, wrapping around Emma tighter and tighter, leaving her no way out.

The night Molly got stabbed, someone heard a nasty fight near the scene. A witness swore she saw Emma and Molly going at it in the woods, their voices loud and emotions wild. Molly was grilling Emma about her past, and Emma snapped back, things getting out of hand real quick.

The cops found the knife at the scene. Through fingerprint comparison, it was confirmed that the fingerprints on the dagger belong to Emma. Blood from Molly was also found on the blade of the dagger, further proving her direct involvement in the case. The forensic report nailed it—Emma's stab was what did Molly in.

A large amount of blood at the crime scene, after forensic analysis and verification, was found to belong to Molly. The pattern showed she tried to run but bled out and collapsed.

Emma and Molly had a messy history. Emma was jealous of Anna and had been messing with people close to her. Molly, Anna's sister, had humiliated Emma before, giving Emma a solid motive.

With all the evidence lined up, the cops were sure Emma was the murderer.

In the interrogation room, the dim light cast a shadow over Emma. Cops surrounded her, and a plea deal was slapped on the table.

Emma didn't even glance at it. "I didn't kill Molly. I'm not signing anything."

"Emma, you're only making it worse for yourself!" an older cop yelled, slamming the table.

Emma stayed silent. She'd rather die than let anyone control her fate. But that resolve crumbled fast under violence.

The cops dragged her to a blind spot in the surveillance and started beating her. Fists came down like a storm, leaving Emma nowhere to hide. Her body was a mess, and she was on the edge of blacking out from the relentless hits.

Through the pain, she still growled, "Even if you beat me to death, I won't confess!"

"Fine, you're tough. Let's see how long you last! Lock her up in the cell! No confession, no release!"

Emma was dragged into a cramped cell, more like a big box than a cell.

She could only curl up inside, couldn't stretch her limbs. It was pitch black, couldn't see or hear a thing.

This was hell. The air was damp and moldy. The pain in her body and the despair in her soul mixed, swallowed by darkness.

Emma thought of her fight with Anna, a nightmare replaying in her mind. She was clearly framed but couldn't prove her innocence.

The cell was like an endless pit of darkness, and Emma was on the brink of breaking down, both in body and spirit.

Just when she thought she couldn't take it anymore, someone came to see her. Finally, she was out of that hellhole.

"You murderer!" The sharp accusation shattered the silence. Emma saw Sophia and Henry storm in, their faces twisted with pain and anger.

"Why did you kill Molly?" Sophia's scream was heart-wrenching, filled with tears and despair.

"I didn't!" Emma's voice was firm, but her heart was heavy with helplessness. No matter how innocent she was, she couldn't make them believe her.

"You vicious woman, how could you kill Molly?" Henry's voice was full of rage, his eyes burning with hatred.

"Listen to me, I'm not the killer!" Emma's voice trembled. She wanted to explain, but their fury drowned her out. "The killer is Anna! She killed Molly!"

"How dare you lie! Not only did you kill Molly, but now you're trying to frame Anna! How can you be so evil? You deserve to die! I want you to pay for Molly's life with your own!" Sophia's words cut deep into Emma's heart. "Die in prison! I won't let you go!"

Emma's heart ached, and tears streamed down her face.

Sophia and Henry hurled the most venomous words at her. They wanted her dead! At this moment, Emma desperately wanted to reveal her identity but was overwhelmed by suppressed emotions.

"You don't believe me at all!" Her voice was filled with helplessness and despair, her eyes glistening with tears.

"You don't deserve our trust!" Henry said coldly, his eyes full of anger and disappointment.

Just then, Anna walked in with a sinister smile on her face. Her gaze swept over Emma. She pretended to be pitiful, crying as she fell at Emma's feet. "Emma, stop being stubborn! If you want to do something, come at me. Don't hurt the people around me anymore!"

Anna's mouth was crying, but in a hidden corner, only Emma saw that her eyes were laughing. Anna clearly mocked Emma. Even her biological parents didn't believe her. How did she plan to defend herself?

"Anna, don't get so close to her. She might hurt you!" Still confined to a wheelchair and having just lost Molly, Sophia cherished her only remaining daughter, Anna, even more.

Sophia and Henry couldn't bear to see Anna hurt again.

Sophia pulled Anna behind her, holding her tightly, while Henry stood in front of them, protecting Sophia and Anna. The three of them were so close, the intense parental love stinging Emma's eyes.

They should have been protecting her! But now, Anna had taken it all away! Fate was too unfair!

"Dad, Mom..." Emma screamed.

But then, she couldn't utter another word, nor could she shed another tear. She remained motionless, like a stone sculpture, her eyes blankly staring at Sophia and Henry.

Sophia and Henry were stunned. They felt a slight pain in their hearts, as if they had lost something forever.

Anna's tears flowed instantly.

"I understand that you also wish to have a mom and dad. But Emma, do you think that with Molly dead, her parents would belong to you? Stop messing up! Emma!" Anna once again firmly framed Emma as the murderer.
