Chapter 221 Dislike Mom
The rest of the ceremony went relatively smoothly, with George doing his best to cooperate.
As the ceremony progressed, it was finally time for the ring bearers to bring the rings.
Lucas, looking adorable in his little suit, held the shining rings and walked towards George and Anna. When he reached the officiant, the officiant suddenly stopped him.
"Hey, Lucas, someone said your mom's not nice to you. Do you like your mom?" The officiant glanced at Anna with a knowing look and a cruel smile.
A wave of anger and humiliation rose within Anna as her face instantly turned pale.
What kind of officiant says something like that at a wedding?
Before Anna could react, Lucas hesitated and answered, "No, I don't."
His voice was soft, but it caused an immediate uproar among the guests.
Anna rushed forward, trying to stop Lucas from speaking, her voice trembling slightly, "Lucas, how can you say that? Tell them you like me!"
"But I don't!" Lucas shrank back, clearly afraid of Anna's approach.
Anna's anger exploded, and she hit him without hesitation, "You ungrateful child! Shut up!"
"It hurts!" Lucas covered the spot where he was hit, tears welling up in his eyes as he looked at Anna, feeling helpless and scared.
The scene caused a stir among the guests, who began whispering to each other.
"Isn't he her biological son? Why hit him so hard?"
"This is child abuse!"
"Yeah, I never noticed before, but Lucas seems a lot skinnier than other kids. Maybe he's not getting enough to eat."
At that moment, Sophia stepped in, trying to calm the situation.
She smiled as she approached Lucas, crouching down to speak to him gently, "Lucas, don't be afraid. Your mom just wants you to listen. Let's bring the rings together, okay?"
Lucas looked up at Sophia's kind eyes, feeling a bit more at ease, and nodded.
Sophia turned to Anna and nodded, then addressed the officiant, "Let's continue with the ceremony."
She also gave Anna a look, signaling her to control her emotions.
The ceremony continued, with the guests still focused on George and Anna, waiting to hear their vows and promises.
Would there be more drama?
They were eagerly anticipating it.
Finally, it was time to exchange rings. Anna just hoped this moment would go smoothly to make up for the earlier embarrassment. She had been waiting for this moment for a long time.
"Please exchange rings and make your vows," the officiant prompted with a smile.
Anna slowly placed the ring on George's finger, her voice firm, "I promise to stand by you for the rest of our lives, through thick and thin."
The officiant asked, "And George, do you?"
George kept his mouth shut, unable to utter the simple words "I do," which felt like a heavy burden.
Anna's face turned pale again, and she forced a smile, cursing George's attitude inwardly, feeling utterly humiliated.
The officiant didn't wait for George to speak and simply announced the ceremony over.
Anna was seething with anger, while George felt a sense of relief.
The wedding ceremony ended hastily, and it was time for the reception.
But before the guests could disperse, George had disappeared again.
Anna shouted, "George! Where'd you run off to now?"
Meanwhile, Emma quietly slipped out of the reception hall, feeling a sense of satisfaction. She mentally praised the officiant, planning to give him a bonus later.
Emma muttered to herself, "Anna, how does it feel to be betrayed by your own son?"
George had been watching Isabella seated in the audience the whole time. When he saw her leave, he quickly followed.
"Isabella, wait!" George's voice echoed in the hallway, tinged with urgency.
Emma stopped and turned around, a cold smile on her face. "What is it, George?"
George felt a pang of unease, realizing Isabella wasn't in a good mood.
He forced a smile. "I just wanted to make sure you're okay. Today's wedding, I was forced into it. Don't be upset."
Emma chuckled softly, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Why would I be upset? As long as I know you care about me, that's enough. It's just a wedding; I don't care!"
Meanwhile, back in the reception hall, Anna was filled with anger and jealousy.
She glared at Isabella and George's retreating figures, a strong sense of hatred welling up inside her. The humiliation she suffered at the wedding was definitely Isabella's doing!
Isabella had planned this to embarrass her!
Clenching her fists, Anna took a step forward and said through gritted teeth, "Isabella, you'll pay for this!"
Sophia, feeling sorry for Anna, hugged her tightly, watching her cry with a heart full of pain.
"I'm going to find Isabella!" Sophia said firmly.
"Mom, what are you going to find her?" Anna sobbed.
"I'm going to teach her a lesson, to show her that she can't just ruin this wedding!" Sophia marched off towards Isabella without hesitation.
"Mom, come back!" Anna deliberately lagged behind, pretending she couldn't keep up because of her high heels. She smirked as she watched Sophia storm towards Isabella.
In the hallway, George and Emma's conversation continued.
Emma had completely ruined Anna's wedding and was in high spirits. This was exactly the outcome she had hoped for.
As for whether George would go back to comfort Anna, she didn't care.
In fact, it was better if George didn't go back. Anything that could upset Anna would make Isabella happy.
"I think you should go back. The wedding isn't over yet."
"I'm not going back. My part is done. From now on, I want to be with you!" George didn't care that it was his wedding day with Anna. There were still many guests in the hallway who had attended the wedding.
They were all stunned. The groom wasn't with the bride but was flirting with another woman.
How Interesting!
It seemed George had indeed been deliberately brushing off Anna during the wedding.
"George! Say that again, who do you want to be with?" Sophia's angry shout echoed in the hallway.
When Sophia found George, she saw him standing with Isabella, her anger boiling over. "George, your behavior today has been incredibly disappointing."
George said nothing, and Sophia assumed he knew he was in the wrong and was feeling guilty, which made her even angrier. "You've gone too far. Do you know how much you've embarrassed Anna? You're not only embarrassing her but also disrespecting the entire Stuart family! What does the Russell family think of us?"
