Chapter 1000 Choose

Wow.
This guy had always been quite the devil since he was a child.
"The memory is vague, but yes, I vaguely remember that. Why?" Waverly asked, her gaze lowered.
"There was something along the lines of: In one's life, without failure, he would not be as happy about the success he achieved. Without sadness, he would not be able to appreciate the joys. Life wouldn't be complete without a few terrible incidents. After all, only in the darkness can one see the stars."
Waverly had long forgotten about this passage. "It sounds like younger me had quite the literary skills."
"That's why it has nothing to do with my taste. Up until now, I don't think I've ever experienced any failure, nor sorrow. Though I do want to do a few horrible things, and you are one of them," Joseph admitted with a smile.
Waverly looked at his big, presumptuous smile and felt that he was too arrogant for his own good.
He was so conceited that it drove people mad.
"Coincidentally, you are also one of the horrible things that I have experienced," Waverly proudly replied.
A strange look flashed past Joseph's eyes. He looked to be in deep thoughts.
If they were both negatives, could it be that two negatives would result in a positive, just like in mathematics?
Waverly did not speak again. She lowered her head, ate her meal, and pondered silently. Based on what Joseph said, Yasmine had decided on the chefs. Even if she found other chefs, Yasmine would just come up with some argument that they were not up to her standards and so on.
If Waverly exposed Yasmine and asked why she would get her to find chefs when she had already done so, that might cause Joseph some trouble.
Joseph suddenly let out a light chuckle.
Waverly looked at him, puzzled. "Why are you laughing?"
"You have a magnificent brain," Joseph said.
"Are you saying that you know what I'm thinking about?" Waverly asked.
"You're thinking about how exposing Yasmine would solve your problems. You'd tell Yasmine that I told you this when we were eating and have her trouble me," Joseph had accurately read her mind and successfully described her scheme to her.
Waverly tried her best to stay composed, but the intensity in her eyes revealed her turbulent emotions. "Do you think that it's inappropriate? Or do you have other suggestions?"
"Do you think it will change her relationship with me if she knew about our relationship? That's impossible. She's not marrying me because of love, so why would she care if I'm with another woman?
All the disguises and appearances are just to reach our own goals. Of course, if you get in the way, you will definitely become her target," Joseph explained.
"It would not be a disadvantage to me if you exposed our relationship, but it will definitely put you at a disadvantage. In fact, it wouldn't affect me at all. Just like how you purposely let Qianna know about us."
He continued, "Would she cause trouble for me? No, because she can't do that. One word from me, and she can kiss being with Lenold goodbye. So, she wouldn't dare step on my toes. What she will do though, is to hate you even more."
"So, Waverly, don't shoot yourself in the foot. Your ideas and plans are senseless and stupid," Joseph mocked without showing the slightest bit of mercy.
Waverly could only stare at him, mouth agape as she sat there in complete shock.
He was just like a mind-reader who could easily pinpoint one's weaknesses and attack them.
This was one of Joseph's strengths.
This was why even when Waverly's grades were just as good as Joseph's when they were kids, she would always be the one who was left out, and he would always be the more popular one.
"What's your suggestion then?" Waverly asked through squinted eyes.
"You'd better not go to the reception. Otherwise, you'll become the target of public criticism. Also, do you remember what I said about Yazoo's family secret?" Joseph continued, "The secret actually has something to do with you. Would you like to know?"
Waverly paused, and her heart began to beat erratically.
"Yazoo's family's secret has something to do with me? How? What exactly do you know, Joseph?" Waverly asked.
"Call Bellamy now and tell him clearly that you don't want to meet him, that you are not going to greet him, and that he should figure things out himself. In addition, tell him not to cause you trouble anymore. It would be best if he could take Hayley away, too. What I'm about to tell you doesn't only concern the Yazoo's secret, but other secrets that you'd want to know as well," Joseph tempted.
Waverly furrowed her eyebrows as she stared at Joseph.
All her senses screamed at her to put her guards up.
She couldn't figure anything out at the moment because of her flurry of ideas, where a million thoughts ran through her mind simultaneously.
Waverly's subconscious reminded her not to fall into Joseph's temptation. She had to work smart and quick to decipher the meaning behind his words; only then would she successfully steer clear of his trap.
Yazoo...
What was Yazoo's secret? What does Yazoo's secret have to do with her?
Waverly thought of Bernald, Yazoo, and Bellamy.
"You have half a day to consider. Don't disobey me anymore, Waverly. If you're too much of a rebel, I'll lose my patience with you," Joseph warned again.
Waverly clenched her fist and lowered her head to avoid Joseph's gaze as she continued eating.
The two of them did not speak again until Joseph finished his food, and he uttered, "I will send someone to pick you up tonight. I want your answer by then."
He got up and walked out of the room in a poised manner, just like how he came in.
Hayley came out from the kitchen and looked at Waverly worriedly.
She found Waverly sitting on the dining chair, dazed.
Hayley walked over and asked softly, "Madam, aren't you getting ready to meet the President tomorrow?"
Waverly looked up at Hayley.
"I've endured every decision Joseph made, every condition he set, and every temptation he created. I'm even afraid of all the secrets that he has," Waverly murmured.
"I think he's a terrifying person. He's so scary that I can sense that he's untrustworthy and evil. Madam, you should talk to the President when he arrives, and leave with him. Don't stay here anymore. I don't think you're happy here," Hayley advised.
She was truly unhappy. Since the day she left A Country, she knew that joy would be difficult for her to attain in the future.
Waverly laid her chin on the table and held the wine glass. As she looked at the red liquid, she had a flashback when she traveled with Bellamy.
Back then, although they had a lot on their plate, they still managed to have a great time. Things were so good that she only remembered the good memories.
Waverly's mind urged her to stay as far away as she could from Bellamy, and to leave his life altogether. No matter what happened in the future, it would have nothing to do with Bellamy.
However, Waverly's heart told her that she didn't really want to leave Bellamy. Even if they could only meet each other occasionally for a short time, it was still a ray of light and hope in her tragic life.
