Chapter 1002 Couldn’t Let Go, For Even A Trace Of Breath Is Nostalgic
Bellamy answered the phone call. He smiled and said, "Have you eaten yet? The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must be a little busy these days, right?"
"I've eaten. Fortunately, I am only an assistant. I don't need to do most of the work. No matter the circumstances, I have indeed been the wife of the President for five years. I have done plenty of business receptions with you and those events are still easy for me till this day." Waverly said with a smile.
"That's good. I thought you were going to draw comics. I am still waiting to see your published comics too," Bellamy said in a breeze.
"Bell, I have something to tell you. I don't want to carry out any business receptions anymore when you come here," she returned to the topic at hand.
Bellamy withdrew his smiling face and furrowed his brows. There was a sharp glint in his eyes as he asked, "Why? Are they making things difficult for you?"
"I've already thought about it. If I come out to welcome you, there will be a lot of disturbances and gossiping. Now that my life has returned to being relatively peaceful, I don't want to be involved in public opinions and become the topic of the people' gossip anymore," Waverly explained seriously while looking at Bellamy and smiling slightly.
Bellamy fell silent and looked at Waverly the same way that she was staring at him.
"Bellamy could live a better life without me," Waverly thought to herself.
However, the thought of leaving him was so painful that it was as if her heart were being torn into shreds. She was in so much pain that it was difficult for her to even breathe.
"Are they trying to make things difficult for you? Answer me," Bellamy said in a serious yet low voice. "Waverly, don't lie to me. You can't lie well. If this is the reason you refuse to meet with me, you should have brought it up the last time and not now."
Waverly looked down to conceal the surge of emotions in her eyes. She thought of an excuse and explained, "This time, the Ministry of External Affairs has arranged a cooking competition for you. The Deputy Secretary of External Affairs initially planned for me to deal with the matters of the competition. I only just found out that she has already signed the contract beforehand. Therefore, it is difficult for me to meet with you now or else I will be laughed at if I can't handle the matter."
"If this is your reason, it can be solved. You don't need to find a chef. You just need to find a cook who's a normal citizen. I can just tell you which restaurant I used to like there," Bellamy uttered.
Waverly shook her head, "This method is not feasible. After all, it is a competition so it should be different. Besides, I am not the Secretary of External Affairs and I can't change the schedule and rules at will."
"It doesn't matter. I'll call my friend to take care of it now. There are still plenty of famous chefs who have won championships before. The matter should be able to be settled by this afternoon."
"Yasmine wants me to hand in a report today. I feel that even if the chefs have already been confirmed, there is still a large chance that there will be an accident tomorrow and that it may involve innocent people. I don't want that to happen."
"Waverly, it's not that you don't want to do it, but you're against it, aren't you? You know, with your abilities, this matter at hand can be easily resolved, right? Just say it, is there anything else other than this matter? Are they threatening you?" Bellamy asked with certainty.
Waverly's heart skipped a beat, and her shoulders drooped.
She could not continue to lie in front of Bellamy.
"Bell, I'm just a little bit tired..."
"If you are tired, you can always just leave M Country. You clearly know that by leaving, you will be able to start a new life," Bellamy interrupted her.
Waverly had no idea what to say.
Countless lies were needed to be uttered just to make sure one's story added up. Once one of the lies had lost its logic, all the previous lies would collapse down on one another and shatter the entire illusion.
She laid down on the bed and looked at Bellamy on her phone screen. She hoped that time could stop at this moment so that she could forever just look at him and stamp an everlasting image of him into her memories.
"Get some sleep. After that, you will be able to think clearly. Those things that you can't figure out will make sense tomorrow. You'll also calm down by then," Bellamy said gently.
"Okay," Waverly replied. "Then, I'll hang up first and take a short nap."
"Alright."
Waverly took a deep breath and hung up on the video call. She put the mobile phone beside her pillow, lied on her side, curled up, and stared at the flowers on the bar counter.
Women were too emotional and too softhearted. It was easy for them to be affected by their beloved and make them not be able to think rationally.
In the past, a story about a couple had surfaced before. The woman had proposed to go to the movies with the man. He had originally promised to go, but ended up playing hooky because of problems at work. The man thought that the woman was angry because she didn't get to watch the movie and everything would be alright if they went to the movies another day. However, the woman was upset because the man had not spared any of his time to accompany her.
Therefore, for men, they had one-track minds. They thought that the problem lied in their actions only. For women, the problem was in their emotions.
Men solved problems with idealistic methods, while women solved problems using emotional means.
If one man wanted his girlfriend to not be angry, he should show his emotions more and let his girlfriend feel his concern, his love, then any kind of mistake could be forgiven.
Therefore, if Bellamy was nice to her for only just a moment, that could waver her decision to leave him forever.
There was a series of rapid knocks on the door.
"Come in," Waverly ordered.
Hayley came in with the dog in her arms. She sized Waverly up with a worried look on her face, "Madam, are you alright?"
Waverly shook her head, "I'm fine. Hayley, have you ever recorded me sleeping before?"
"I probably have, but the video should be really blurry," answered Hayley.
"Oh, could you help me take a clearer picture of me? I want to have the clearest look of myself from when I am asleep," Waverly asked.
Hayley failed to understand her actions and asked, "Do you only want photos of yourself sleeping?"
Waverly nodded, "You should head out first. Remember to do what you have been told to do. I have to rest for a while."
"Alright, then," Hayley walked towards the door, then looked back at Waverly in concern.
Although Waverly was still as calm as usual, she had some kind of depressing aura emanating from her.
Waverly continued to stare at the flowers on the table as her mind went completely blank. Slowly, she closed her eyes.
In a daze, she felt as if someone had covered her with a quilt. The person was most probably Hayley because she had asked her to come in and take pictures.
Her mind was still drowsy, so she did not open her eyes at all and continued to fall asleep.
Time passed by. At one point, she had been half-awake, but she didn't want to get up so she fell asleep again.
After a while, her phone rang.
Waverly opened her eyes and picked up the phone next to her pillow. Yasmine was calling her.
She sat up and answered the call.
"How's the matter now?" Yasmine asked in a strange tone.
There was a chill in Waverly's eyes as she said, "Haven't you already hired a chef? I don't understand what's going on. What do you mean by asking me that?'"
