Chapter 1008 Can You Stop Holding A Grudge Against Me?

"If you can stop holding a grudge against me, I can do the same thing too. Waverly, could you do that?" Joseph asked meaningfully, looking at her with passionate eyes.
Waverly had no idea what he meant by that sentence. Was he giving her a hint, a warning, or was he just plainly mocking her? She always felt that there were many emotions in his eyes that she wasn't able to decipher.
She failed to answer him but instead looked at the door and changed the subject, "Why isn't the food here yet? I'm so hungry that my stomach hurts."
He smirked and made a phone call, "Serve the dishes in three minutes or all of you will be fired and kicked out of the house."
Waverly frowned, "If you become the emperor, you will also be a tyrant."
"Do you think that Joshua and Yadriel are loyal to me?" he asked.
Waverly nodded, "They are indeed incredibly loyal to you."
"It's not just them. Ninety percent of my subordinates are extremely loyal to me. If I were to ask them to drop dead, they would definitely do so without hesitation. Do you believe me?" he smirked confidently.
"I believe you. You did save and help those people."
"Haha, I am not just helping them., They trust me the same way you trust Bellamy. Bellamy taught you about manners, how to plot schemes, protected you, and made good use of you. I treat them the same way. That is just a king's way. I am their pillar of support, just like how Bellamy is yours." As he spoke, a strange yet sharp glint shone from his eyes.
That one phrase, 'a king's way' seemed to denounce all of Bellamy's feelings for her.
However, it was as if he had spoken out her inner thoughts, causing her to feel a strange sense of panic.
"You still don't understand my words until now? You are nothing but a pawn to Bellamy, the most loyal pawn in M Country," he said disdainfully.
"Do you also treat Yadriel and Joshua as pawns as well?" Waverly asked viciously in return.
"I treat them as my right-hand men, but you are not even qualified to be Bellamy's."
Waverly became agitated, "What does me calling you a tyrant have anything to do with Bellamy and I?"
"As for despotism, I let those who are loyal to me stay loyal to me forever. I let my enemies fear me. I allow those who are neutral, to respect and fear me, so that they dare not provoke me. I show kindness to those who have pledged allegiance to me and impose extremity on those who have betrayed me. To those who waver, I give them a warning. That is also a king's way. So-called benevolence is for the people, not the powerful. Bellamy's way of ruling is decent, but he is a little too benevolent," Joseph said slowly.
"If you are harsh to them, they will naturally betray you."
Joseph sneered and said sarcastically, "Bellamy has made them too comfortable, but has no one turned against him? The point is that I don't give those powerful people any comfort. It would be within my expectations if they turned their backs against me. At the very least, I would have already prepared a backup plan. If Bellamy is nice towards them, he won't expect them to betray him. He wouldn't be as prepared as I am because he won't have a backup plan. Otherwise, he wouldn't have abandoned his wife."
Joseph's words made Waverly uncomfortable, so she stood up.
However, when she thought about it, where could she go? She would have no choice but to accept what she had done. She said, "What am I in your eyes? Your enemy, a neutral ally, someone who's relying on you or someone who is wavering?"
"What do you hope to be?" he asked evasively.
"What I hope to be doesn't matter. Only you can decide for me."
"If you wish to become the person you hoped to be, then you have to prove it with your actions. Your actions will decide my judgment," Joseph spoke with a deeper sense of wisdom.
"Then, you can do as you like. It's no use in me saying more," Waverly sat down again.
As the conversation halted, the atmosphere became cold.
Fortunately, the chef began serving the dishes, relieving the awkwardness.
Waverly ate her steak slowly.
Joseph glanced at her and asked, "Were you afraid when you were in the wolf's den?"
She was not afraid because she had been in a cage so she knew that she would be fine. At most, she would have starved for two days, so there was nothing for her to be afraid of.
However, she was reluctant to tell him the truth.
"Didn't you notice that I was scared stupid?" Waverly said coldly.
"Scared stupid?" Joseph shook his head thoughtfully. "How dumb you become when you're scared, that never fails to amuse me."
"You're the only smart one here," Waverly frowned.
"Help me cut it," Joseph gave his steak to Waverly. He took the steak she had already cut and ate it delightedly.
Not only was he smart, he was overbearing too.
Waverly was a stubborn person. Perhaps because she had nothing at all, she was not afraid of losing anything.
She did not cut it for him. Instead, she bit into his steak.
Joseph laughed, "How old are you? You are still as childish as a three-year-old kid."
"Don't forget that you are the same age as me," Waverly retorted.
Joseph was in a good mood, so he didn't make a fuss about her remark.
Whenever she talked about him, he would smile, too. There was an unknown sweet sensation in his heart.
Waverly was soon full. Her appetite had already been small in the first place; coupled with the fact that she would always starve, her appetite had shrunk even more.
He looked at the time, "Do you want to go out for a walk?"
"I could walk around alone."
"I'll give you half an hour. You have to return to your room after that," added Joseph. "It's cold outside. Remember to wear your jacket."
"Alright," Waverly responded. When she went out, the maid had brought her a new down jacket.
Waverly took it over, put it on, put her mobile phone into her pocket, and walked straight out.
The maid followed behind her.
Waverly frowned as she looked at the maid who followed her and asked, "Did Joseph ask you to follow me?"
The maid shook her head.
"Don't follow me. I will be back in half an hour," Waverly said in a commanding tone.
The maid nodded her head in trepidation.
When Waverly went out, a cool breeze blew. Her face was cold, but the air felt fresh to her.
She walked around nonchalantly. There was a street lamp every fifty meters, so she could see the road ahead clearly.
After walking for more than ten minutes, Waverly smelled the strong aroma of roses.
She looked around and found a field of roses.
There were many varieties of roses. Some had already bloomed and wilted, while some were still in full bloom. Some had only flower buds.
Looking at the ground, it seemed that some had been newly planted.
"These were all instructions from Mr. Mccarthy. He found out that you like roses," Yadriel said as he walked over.
"When you have money, you can be as capricious as you like," Waverly looked at the blooming flowers.
"He only did so because he's thoughtful of you. Mr. Mccarthy was pleased to learn that you've turned down the offer to attend the business reception this time," Yadriel continued.
Waverly turned around and faced him, "Are you hinting to me that Joseph likes me?"
