Chapter 1065 Wherever You Go, I’ll Follow
"Forget it." Bellamy did not say anything in the end.
"Okay." Waverly did not insist either.
They got into the car and headed to the airport in the military area, returning to the President's Mansion.
Waverly put on makeup again and changed into a black suit. She looked like a capable and calm lady. After that, she went to attend that evening's banquet.
At the banquet, she saw Yasmine who was dressed exquisitely.
Yasmine's gaze was cold as she scanned Waverly from head to toe. Then, her countenance changed. She was much more enthusiastic as she extended her hand toward Bellamy and said, "Thank you for welcoming me the past few days, Mr. Chuck."
Bellamy shook hands with her briefly. "I'm glad to see my wife. I hope she will stay with me for a few more days. I wonder if it's convenient?"
"Of course." Yasmine looked at Waverly and said, "Since you are here, you can stay here for a few more days. I will approve your holiday. Is a week enough?"
Waverly lowered her gaze.
The result was certain. If she were to stay for even one more day, she would be even more reluctant to return.
It was better if she burned her bridges and abandoned all hope, then only her heart will be at peace.
"No, I will go back with you. I had spent enough time with Mr. Chuck," Waverly answered.
Yasmine was a little shocked to hear this. She looked at Bellamy in surprise.
Bellamy also did not expect this, and he stared at Waverly.
Waverly smiled. She looked at him and said, "I have had a good time today. Thank you for your arrangement."
"Let's talk privately." Bellamy pulled Waverly to the next room. Then only he said, "Stay here for a week. I believe that many things can be changed. I have a way to direct the public opinion. I can let you stay without worry."
Stay?
"Bellamy, if I stay, can we go back to the way it used to be?" Waverly asked.
"Yes. It's just a matter of time," Bellamy replied with certainty.
Waverly hesitated. For a moment, it was like she had entered the dream that she had woven by herself.
But then, her cell phone rang.
She saw that it was a call from Joseph. Before she could answer the call, Bellamy took her cell phone away from her. He questioned with a frown, "Is this the friend you'd mentioned before?"
"How could he and I become friends?" Waverly retorted.
Bellamy's expression changed from wary to anxious. He asked, "Is he making things difficult for you?"
"A lot of people have been making things difficult for me, but Thomson protects me."
"I can't set my mind at ease if I let you stay in the Mccarthy family. I'm sorry that I made you leave and endure the grievances. It was all my fault for not being able to protect you. I needed time to buffer and solve the issues. You've told me before that you went back to M Country because the person you love is there. At first, I thought it was Lenold, but it could not be him. If it was him, you guys would have been together after our divorce. So there is no one you love at all, right? You just made up a reason to make me feel at ease. In fact, you went to M Country to stop Joseph," Bellamy said firmly.
Waverly smiled bitterly and looked down. She said, "I am a weak woman who has no power, money, and ability. I have the heart to do so, but not the competency. You're reading too much into this."
"I don't understand. What is the real reason you're staying in M Country?" Bellamy pressed on, looking at her in confusion.
He didn't want her to go. The so-called magnanimousness and support were all forced.
He wanted them to be a real married couple, not just in name.
He was older than her, so he would try his best to keep good health. He would try not to leave before her and follow her to the end of life. They would keep each other company, watching sunsets and experiencing the seasons together.
"Bellamy, I don't want to talk about this now. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it," Waverly said with a faint smile.
Whenever she faced Bellamy, all she needed to do was express her feelings.
Bellamy's gaze softened, but in the end, he did not force her. He said, "I hope you can stay. Whenever you want to come back, call me. I'll pick you up."
His gentle gesture melted Waverly's heart.
Bellamy gave her hope, perhaps. But hope would often lead to her disappointment. She did not dare to hope anymore.
The reason why she had to go back to M Country was that it was her battlefield. She thought that one day, she could come back with a powerful force to be of Bellamy's help.
She no longer wanted to hide behind him and distract him.
What's more, she didn't want to be abandoned.
If she didn't want to be abandoned, it was best if she never relies on anyone nor anything.
"Thank you, Bellamy," Waverly uttered with a smile.
Bellamy's heart was still aching but he still managed to reply with a smile, "I hope the wait won't be long."
"Yes."
When they went back to the President's Mansion, Bellamy took her to visit the garden. It was gorgeous, and the air was filled with the fragrance of the roses. The scent alone was enjoyable.
"Marie would be busier than ever, needing to care for them," Waverly remarked.
"I'll take over the task myself," Bellamy promised.
"Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Chuck."
"It's nothing. I'm doing it for my people." Bellamy chuckled gently.
Waverly smiled upon hearing this.
"Madam, Madam."
Just then, they could hear Hayley's voice from a distance.
Waverly looked in the direction of the room and saw Hayley running in full speed, dressed in a black evening dress. As soon as she was in front of Waverly, Hayley said, "It feels so strange to wear something like this."
Hayley twirled in front of Waverly. She absolutely detested her dress.
"You look beautiful. You're accompanying me to the banquet, so you'll need to dress up," Waverly praised.
"Can I wear a suit and tie? I think that kind of outfit suits me better."
"It sounds good too." Waverly then looked at Bellamy as she asked, "Is there a suit for Hayley?"
"We should have one of those. Let me ask someone." After that, Bellamy turned to make a phone call.
Hayley held Waverly's hand and said, "Madam, why don't we stay here this time? It's good here. I think it's better than M Country. You're aggrieved and depressed back in M Country."
"Hayley, don't tell Bellamy about what happened to me in M Country," Waverly reminded her.
Hayley made a zipping gesture on her mouth as she promised, "I won't tell him. Don't worry."
"Besides, I already told Bellamy that you can stay in A Country if you want," Waverly added.
"No. Wherever you go, I'll follow. I'll forever be your follower!" Hayley uttered without thinking, and a simple and honest smile appeared on her face.
Waverly was actually moved.
In the world, it was rare for relationships to have no resentment and regrets but only filled with sincerity. If she had any of them, it would be her luck.
In the future, her life would still be tough. No matter how difficult it was, she had to leave a way out for Hayley.
"Okay," Waverly answered.
Meanwhile, Bellamy was done with the call. He turned around and said, "Hayley will be getting her suit. Someone will send it over. Also, you'd better be prepared because Joseph will be there tonight."
