Chapter 981 What Does She Want?

Madam Lenny observed Waverly, "Actually, I've heard about you. I've also seen your interviews on TV. If Yasmine was half as outstanding as you, I'd be relieved."
"Miss Filthy is innately domineering. That quality of hers isn't something that anybody can learn. It takes deterrence to be a leader. She also takes responsibility for her actions. She will have marvelous achievements in the future," Waverly said with a smile.
"You're quite generous and you're able to handle things with ease. You have a lot of merits that others don't have. You're also quite reasonable when you solve things. There's an upcoming exam for diplomats this May. You should sign up. If you pass the exam, you can work for me from then on," Madam Lenny said.
"It would be my pleasure to be able to learn from you."
"The feeling is mutual. You can leave now. Be sure to help Yasmine out in the near future."
"Okay," Waverly nodded and said softly.
"Then, I'll take my leave."
Madam Lenny nodded as she gazed at Waverly.
Cynthia, who had been following Madam Lenny, came in and handed the documents over to her as she asked with a confused expression, "Madam, is Waverly Martell really that important?"
Madam Lenny took the document and spoke slowly, "She was the President's wife for five years. During her time in the office, other than the most recent film issue, she hasn't made any mistakes. Her bearing, self-restraint, wisdom and strategies are not assets that an ordinary person would have. It's too dangerous to leave this kind of person in the outside world. If she stays by our side, we'll be able to control her at all times. That way, she won't be able to come up with any tricks."
"Therefore, you promised the Mccarthy family to allow her to become an assistant here," Cynthia seemed to understand the meaning behind her words.
Madam Lenny signed the document, "Did you think it was because of Thomson?"
"What do you mean by that?" Cynthia was puzzled.
Madam Lenny put down her pen and passed the documents in her hands back to Cynthia, "She's magnanimous, courageous, scheming and has great control over her emotions. If those strengths of hers can be of use to me, she would be of great help to Yasmine. However, if she becomes of no use to me, I can only dispose of her."
"Madam, do you want to train her?"
"She doesn't need me to train her. Who do you think Bellamy is? He can turn an ordinary lady into an intellectual maiden. He's an extraordinary person. What I need to do is to judge whether or not she's useful to me. So, leave this project to her," Madam Lenny said.
"This project?" Cynthia was worried. "If she tells others about it, it'll bring harm to you."
"Of course, I will have a solution when that happens. This is a small project. It's a good way to test her," Madam Lenny reasoned calmly.
"Okay, I understand," Cynthia went out.
Waverly was reading a book. She looked calm on the surface, but deep down in her heart, she was surging with emotions.
Madam Lenny had decided to keep her by her side. She seemed to think highly of Waverly on the surface, but in reality, doing so was to keep her under control. After all, Madam Lenny had the boldness and the ability to prevent her from coming up with any tricks.
Only a capable person could have such courage.
It seemed that she had risen too quickly. As a result, her surroundings had turned dangerous. If she was not careful enough, there would be nothing left of her.
However, she had already taken a step forward. She was reluctant to retreat. So, all she could do was to be more cautious when taking a step forward.
The telephone on the table buzzed.
Waverly answered it.
"I'm Cynthia Dolvin, Madam Lenny' secretary. I'll have to meet with you for a while. Please spare some time to come to my office on the fifth floor," Cynthia said in a kind tone.
"Alright," Waverly replied and hung up on the call. If her premonition was right, Madam Lenny was starting to test her.
She went to the fifth floor. The word 'Secretary' was written in front of the door of the office.
She knocked on the door.
"Come in," Cynthia answered.
Waverly entered her office.
Cynthia smiled and said, "Hello, I'm Cynthia, Madam Lenny's secretary. You can call me Miss Dolvin from now on."
"It's a pleasure to meet you," Waverly nodded lightly.
"Please, have a seat," Cynthia gestured to the chair in front of the table.
Waverly pulled out the chair and sat down.
"A while ago, Madam Lenny told me that she admires you a lot. Now that I've seen you for myself, you are indeed gentle and mature. You're a person worthy of trust," Cynthia praised.
"Madam Lenny really is the bold one here. There's a reason why she's extremely well-known around the world. She's my role model," Waverly also flattered her.
"You're a smart person. I don't think I need to beat around the bush. Our Ministry of External Affairs has always been an incredibly independent department. Many of the departments in M Country are also independent departments. However, for the Ministry of External Affairs, there's no other income other than the normal national salary. In addition, the expenditure of the Ministry of External Affairs is often large."
"I understand," Waverly replied.
"You were the President's wife. Although you weren't in M Country, you would know that each department has its own source of funds. Many of them are in the form of sponsorships and there are also people who use their department's money to make investments. M Country is a large military country. Its most important source of income is from its weapons."
"Indeed," Waverly continued to answer and calmly listened to Cynthia.
If she was right, with so much foreshadowing, the following part should be the key point.
"To be honest, there are so many officials in the Ministry of External Affairs, yet Madam Lenny took a fancy to you at first sight. She thinks that you'll be able to achieve great heights."
"She flatters me too much," Waverly said humbly.
"I have quite an important project on hand. Madam Lenny wants you to handle it. However, due to its special circumstances, it's best not to expose this matter to the public. After all, when secrets come to light, they will cause a lot of unnecessary troubles," Cynthia said as she handed the documents to Waverly.
Waverly knew that Madam Lenny was doing so to test her.
If she refused, she would remain an unimportant figure for the rest of her life. There would never be a day when she would stand out. Furthermore, she would have a long way to go to achieve her goals.
If she accepted the task, then she had to take every step forward meticulously. Otherwise, she would be disposed of.
She took over the files from Cynthia and said, "I will do my best."
"Don't you want to see what the task is about?" Cynthia looked at Waverly.
Waverly smiled slightly and opened the file. When she saw the word 'biopharmaceuticals', she was slightly taken aback. However, she kept her cool as she browsed through the data.
Madam Lenny enjoyed an incredibly luxurious life abroad. She had not expected her to own a private company.
However, after pondering about it, it was normal for Madam Lenny to do so. After all, she had plenty of foreign connections. It would be easy for her to make money or help others pull the strings behind the scenes. She would then receive more funds in the process.
However, the information displayed was quite vague. Could this biopharmaceutical company be Madam Lenny's? Waverly had no idea what kind of role Madam Lenny played in the matter.
In the last section of where the signature stood, she saw Madam Lenny's signature.
She knew that this was a test. However, there was never a boundary between a test and a trap.
