Chapter 869 She Hoped For Happiness
Eli shook her head and replied, "I don't want to do anything, and it's not as though I could do anything either."
"You don't need to do anything. You have me. Just wait for me, okay?" Sean murmured. His gaze sunk, as though his soul was looming in the darkness.
He did not ask Eli to go to bed, for he knew that she could not fall asleep. Instead, he closed his eyes.
Noticing that his eyes were shut, Eli closed hers too. After tossing and turning for hours, she finally fell asleep.
She had a dream. Hodge had kidnapped her and made Sean his puppet.
She did not want Sean to be manipulated by Hodge. Therefore, she tried to kill herself to free him of the misery. She bit her tongue, but she did not die.
She tried hitting her head against the wall, but it was soft and it seemed to be emanating warmth.
She looked up and saw Sean. She realized that she was holding a knife in her hand. With a pull, she stabbed the knife through her heart and finally died.
She realized that she became a spirit after death. She saw Sean killing Hodge, but Sean did not seem to notice her.
She felt upset and she opened her eyes. The corners of her eyes were wet. She turned around and looked to the side, but there was no one next to her.
She sat up, thinking about the dream that she just had.
Was she really that dumb? Sean had rescued her. Why would she still want to commit suicide then?
She sighed, got up, brushed her teeth, and left.
There was not much going on among the servants. However, they were all looking at her strangely, their eyes filled with terror, fear, and uneasiness.
Puzzled, Eli went to look for Sean, but he was not around. She smiled when she saw Reuben and walked towards him. "What's going on? Why is everyone acting so strangely so early in the morning?"
"Everyone in Brock's villa died last night," Reuben replied.
Startled, Eli asked, "All of them? Including the servants?"
"Everyone, including the servants. Luckily, Hodge's wife is not in the country, so she is safe, for now," Reuben explained.
Eli was visibly shaken.
She knew that it was not Sean's doing. After all, doing that would only lead others to suspect him and reject her. They would only be in danger if that were to happen.
"How did they die?" Eli asked, perplexed.
"We still do not know at this moment. Mr. Yaleman has gone over to the villa. Anyway, you must be hungry. You should have some breakfast first," Reuben immediately went into the kitchen.
Eli turned around and noticed that the servants were still looking at her strangely.
"Why are you all staring at me?" Eli asked directly.
The servants immediately turned their heads around and left.
Still confused, Eli went to look for Reuben.
Reuben was preparing breakfast for her in the kitchen. "Reuben, why are those servants giving me such strange looks? Did they think that whatever that happened in Brock's villa is somehow connected to me?"
With a hesitant look on his face, Reuben said, "People just love gossiping. If you don't like it, I will ask them to leave the villa. I will also fire anyone who speaks ill of you."
"That's not necessary. I'll head out first," Eli said, still sensing that something was off. She decided to look for a maid and get to the bottom of the matter.
She heard the servants chatting among themselves when she approached their break room.
"So many people died in Mr. Yeager's house all of a sudden. I'm sure it has something to do with Miss Wayne."
"She did not die even after jumping down 100 floors. She must have been possessed by a devil. She must be a succubus, entrancing Mr. Yaleman's thoughts."
"That's right, she hasn't even been here for a long time, but Mr. Yaleman still married her. It's absolutely perplexing. But the main point here is that so many people have died. It's horrifying."
"I think she has always been eccentric. She often sits alone in a daze, as though her soul has wandered away."
"I don't think that her soul has wandered away. Maybe the female devil has errands to run and temporarily left her body to do that."
"This time, Mr. Yeager and his entire family are dead. Guess which family could be next?"
"Could it be Mr. Yaleman's?"
Everyone instantly fell silent, their faces ashen.
Eli pushed the door open and entered the room.
"Ah!" The maids cried out in horror.
Eli dug her ears and looked at them lazily. She deliberately said in a cold voice, "If all of you stay obedient, I promise that you will live for another hundred years, otherwise..."
With a sinister smile etched on her face, Eli made a cutting throat gesture at them before turning around and left their room.
Reuben was looking to have breakfast with her when he saw her coming out of the servants' break room. He frowned slightly and said in distress, "They are talking nonsense. Don't worry, I will replace all of them later."
"You can't control what others say. Just let them say whatever they want, I really don't care. I'm just curious why they were staring at me," Eli smiled and looked towards the table.
"Wow, you made pancakes. I'll have two of them," Eli changed the topic and said.
Sean returned just as she was done with breakfast. He looked visibly upset. His gaze lingered on her, as though he had a lot to say to her. He then tilted his head slightly said to Reuben, "Pack her luggage. I'll be taking Mrs. Yaleman on a trip."
Surprised, Eli stood up and asked, "Isn't that too sudden? Don't we still have to go for my treatment today?"
"Your body won't be able to take it if you were to go for another session. You should rest for three days first," Sean said calmly.
Reuben immediately went off to pack Eli's luggage.
A thought flashed through Eli's mind and her heart tightened. She asked, "Something happened, yes?"
Sean remained silent.
"Did they think that you were the one who killed everyone in Brock's home?" Eli guessed.
"No. It couldn't be me as I would never do such a thing. They are just making use of this incident to taint my reputation. Let's go for a trip and relax. It's better to speak of this matter once the dust settles," Sean said.
"So, are you taking me on a trip just to relax?" Eli breathed a sigh of relief.
Sean nodded and smiled.
Eli returned the smile.
They arrived in Paris six hours after. They flew on Sean's private jet. Traveling with them was a small group of bodyguards as well as Reuben.
"Reuben, I know a wealthy French gentleman. I'll call him later and introduce you to him," Eli said directly.
Sean frowned. He looked at Reuben and asked Eli, "Why do you want to introduce Allen to him?"
"Sean, Reuben is a good friend, like a younger brother, to me. Please take good care of him, okay?" Eli said.
Sean turned back to Reuben and asked him, "Do you treat Eli as your sister?"
Reuben lowered his head and said, "I don't deserve that kind of blessing."
"Why not? Reuben, it's okay. There's no shame in acknowledging that," Eli said.
She wanted to return the favors that Reuben had done for her. Thus, she hoped that Sean would take good care of him as if he was her younger brother.
Reuben did not say anything.
"It's rare that Eli likes you. It's not bad to have you as her younger brother. After all, you did take good care of her all this while. You two could be god-siblings," Sean said.
