Chapter 953 Falling In Love With You Changes Everything
"You had an accident and Lenold was with you. Qianna hated me for splitting her up with him, and even if you did nothing at all, she would still dislike me for that very reason. Marrying her off to Beckham was just some sort of compensation."
"In fact, Beckham was not even interested in her. It was just a stalling tactic."
"She owes me a favor after this. She knows that I want her to be with Lenold, and she's grateful for that."
"Your grandfather favors Qianna, and he even gave her 10% of the Mccarthy family's stocks to her. Besides, she promised to transfer those stocks to me if I could stop her marriage to Beckham."
"As for Lenold, if I set him up, he would definitely be upset and would do something like joining your side just to act against me, but I think he now knows just how insignificant he is to me. I can make or break him. He wouldn't have a second thought of going against me anymore," Joseph listed everything out to Waverly.
She was silent as she fixed her gaze on him.
He walked towards her and stopped in front of her. He looked at her before removing the scarf on him and wrapping it around her neck.
His scent lingered on the scarf.
She didn't like that, so she removed it and returned it to him, "I'm not cold. Why are you telling me all of these?
"Waverly, a wise man knows how to adapt to the changing times. Stop making mistakes in your life," Joseph replied.
"Even if I did make a mistake, it still wouldn't be much of a threat to you. I'm like a tiny mosquito in front of you, the big creature. The most I can do is steal a bite and leave a bump on your skin for a few days," Waverly said.
He chuckled and answered, "I gave a pistol worth a billion to a mosquito. It must be a noble one, and I should take great care of it. I'd be heartbroken if someone smashed it to death."
She glanced towards the tent and mocked, "Now that you've told me everything you wanted to, can we leave yet?"
"You don't want to see Lenold?" He asked.
"Why do I want to see him?" She retorted.
Joseph smirked and warned meaningfully, "If you don't want to see him now, then don't see him anymore. Don't contact him privately anymore. I will let them go this time, but you know I don't have great patience if it happens again."
She looked at him with her eyes down, "Since you won't marry Qianna off to Beckham, why do I still need to keep contact with Lenold?"
He put his hand on her waist.
She immediately went into defense mode as her back stiffened and her eyebrows frowned.
"Are you still not used to me touching you?" He questioned in a low voice, with a hint of danger flashing in his gaze.
Her reaction was of conditioned reflex, and yet Joseph noticed that, so she responded, "Your hand is a bit cold."
"You can feel it even through such thick clothes?" He stared at her.
She could not read his gaze, so she pulled his hand away and remarked, "Should we leave now?"
He raised his hand and a car pulled over in front of them.
He opened the door to the backseat.
Waverly got in the car and looked out of the window.
"Should we go to your place or mine?" Joseph asked.
She inhaled deeply. Could she tell him that she would head back to her place, and he would return to his place?
"I came in a hurry, and I didn't eat the dinner that was prepared for me," she answered.
"So you want me to go to your place. Well, it's not impossible though..." He pondered.
He had many subordinates with him, and if these many cars were to park in front of her house, it would be easy for people to spot them.
If she told anyone else that it was Joseph, he would never admit to it, and others would only assume that she had found herself a different man within such a short period of time.
She felt embarrassed.
However, she didn't want to sleep with Joseph again. Her mind was heavily fogged and she needed to breathe in some fresh air to keep her at peace. Hence, she rolled down the window.
The cold wind blew in and made her shiver.
"Are you an idiot?" He leaned forward and rolled the window back up while staring at her.
The distance between them was too close. She looked away and requested, "I want to rest today, can I?"
He lifted her chin to make her look straight at him as he said, "Back when we were in the Z Country, you told me to wait till we head back. Now that we're back, you ask me to give you more time. At noon, you'd ask me to wait for the night. At night, you'd tell me to give you time to rest. I think I've given you enough time."
"You can have any woman you want with your status today. I just don't feel well in winter, and it's easy to catch a cold too," she argued.
"Yadriel, drive us to the hotspring courtyard," he ordered the driver. He didn't say anything more and just stared at the front with his cold gaze.
The atmosphere in the car was at a freezing point.
Waverly frowned as she stared out the window.
"How many times do I have to do it for you to get used to me?" Joseph asked coldly.
She would never get used to him.
If she told him this, he would not forgive her. Instead, she asked tentatively, "Don't... Don't you think that it's a bit often?"
He sneered, "Perhaps to guys like Bellamy, who wouldn't do it with you even once in the five years you spent together, doing it once every three days might be considered too often. However, for a perfectly healthy man like me, once every three days is considered to be not often. Do you get it now?"
"You..." She couldn't come up with anything. She looked away.
It was not that she was lacking in that aspect. It was that he wasn't the one she wanted to do it with.
"I want to start working in the Department of External Affairs tomorrow," she changed the topic.
"I have already arranged things for you, and you'll start working next Monday. Yasmine will start on the same day too. You can choose to stay out of this, but believe me. You'll be the unfortunate one in this," he reminded her.
"Yasmine Filthy? Madam Lenny's daughter?" Waverly frowned.
Joseph stared at her with a deep gaze, monitoring every slight change in her expression before he nodded lightly.
She already felt guilty even before meeting her.
Bellamy didn't love Waverly when he married her, and she knew that. She felt horrible about it.
Similarly, Joseph wouldn't be marrying Yasmine out of love either.
She was, after all, just a victim in his game of power.
"Treat her more genuinely now that you've decided to marry her. She will be the mother to your children. If you betray her after she gives birth to your kids, she would feel terrible," Waverly commented.
Joseph leaned towards her, with his elbow supporting him behind her back, "Should I suggest something?"
"Suggest what?" She looked puzzledly at him.
"A political marriage. Don't think about anything else, and it must exist for a reason. How many couples are there who would get into marriage with whom they really love? Just take Bellamy and Stella as an example," he suggested.
Waverly's heart ached. He had to go there, didn't he? She sounded a little upset as she said, "So this is what you're suggesting?"
He smirked as his finger grazed across her lips. He looked at her and teased, "Or you can try making me fall in love with you. Maybe it will change everything."
