Chapter 1092 Secretly Jealous

Waverly had grown used to the way Joseph talked. Finishing the soup in one gulp, she handed the bowl back to him and said, "I'll repay the money when I head back to see Bellamy. I want two people, a man and a woman. I'll be choosing them, so you can't interfere. It's better for you to not show up."
"Choose two women," Joseph insisted.
"Men and women handle problems differently. With a male and female assassin, I can solve my problems more thoroughly. Perhaps, you're thinking that I'll fall in love with the male assassin? Do you really lack that much confidence?" Waverly goaded.
"I'm just worried that you won't be able to control them. Do you think that I lack confidence?" Joseph scoffed as his eyes turned cold. "A man and woman it is then. Take your medicine, then we can leave."
As Waverly was indeed a little dizzy, she suspected that she really had caught a cold.
She couldn't get sick. If she did, a lot of her plans would be delayed.
She went to take some antibiotics while Joseph poured some warm water, handing the glass to her. He asked, "You'll leave after getting the people?"
"I'm not going to stay any longer. Do you have anything else to do?" Waverly asked.
Joseph smirked as he said, "Since I'm already here, I'm planning to meet some friends. Do you want to meet them together?"
She wanted to. It wouldn't be a bad thing for her to know who Joseph's friends were, but she was also worried that Joseph was just testing her. So, she replied, "It's up to you."
"You're being obedient. Then, let's go together." Joseph smiled.
However, there seemed to be a profound meaning behind his smile, and Waverly did not like it.
She took the medicine, then followed Joseph into Duff's car.
"Are all the candidates ready?" Joseph asked.
"How could I do anything poorly? I'll call him over later when we have dinner, and he'll bring us the information. He's more familiar with the black market and knows it very well. We can deal with the details later," Duff said.
"Alright, thank you. I've brought you a gift this time. After meeting him, come and get it," Joseph said.
"Alright."
After a while, they arrived at the restaurant. In a private room, aside from Duff, there were two golden-haired, blue-eyed men seated.
One of the men was called Vanze, and the other one was named Welch Buckley who was probably the boss of the black market.
"Let me introduce you to my friend Joseph of the Mccarthy family from M Country. The best weapons in the world all come from the Mccarthy family. This lady here is..." Duff looked at Waverly. He suddenly had no idea how to introduce her.
Waverly pondered for a moment. If they failed to recognize her, she didn't want them to find out about her identity either.
"I'm Thorn Apple," Waverly said, giving herself an alias.
Thorn Apple had extremely beautiful flowers, looking mysterious but deadly.
She had thought of the alias off the bat.
Joseph looked at Waverly cautiously, and then moved his gaze away with some unknown meaning laced in it.
"Welch is the black market's head. Whatever information he has here is first-hand." Duff continued the introductions.
"Nice to meet you," Joseph didn't even stretch out his hand, only leaning against the chair lazily. "Anyone good? Introduce them to me."
"Let's talk as we eat. The first dish is this restaurant's specialty," Duff said, looking at his subordinates.
His subordinates opened the door, bringing in the first dish which looked like a roasted wild boar.
The waiter cut it in the middle.
There was a lot of seafood in the roasted boar, along with corn, potatoes, and other ones that Waverly was unable to name.
The waiter gave the first cut to Duff, then gave Joseph the second one.
Joseph casually passed the cut to Waverly.
The waiter was about to give one piece to Welch. However, upon seeing Joseph's actions, the waiter cut another piece for Joseph.
"Eat more," Joseph said softly.
She was hungry. She hadn't had dinner the day before, and she hadn't even had breakfast that morning. Since she had been enduring her hunger for so long, she no longer had to be courteous anymore.
After finishing, Welch took the sterilized towel handed over by the waiter. While wiping his hands, he said, "I've chosen six of them. The first one is Boris Lameer. He used to be a special-forces soldier. He was framed during a mission, but he took away a biochemical weapon with him, and he was hunted down after that. He gave the biochemical weapon to A Country's President. At first, he had reckoned that he could start over and even have a girlfriend, but he was still hunted down by a group of people. His girlfriend ended up comatose in order to save him."
"Do you know him?" Joseph asked Waverly.
She had no idea about his identity, but she knew about the matter. When Boris had taken away the biochemical weapon, he had worked for Quinn to earn money.
However, Boris was incredibly righteous. Not only had he let go of Stella, but he had also given the biochemical weapon to her.
Stella had then given the biochemical weapon to Bellamy.
"How much is he asking for?" Waverly asked.
"Five million dollars. It's mainly because of the high medical expenses for his girlfriend. He also has to pay for his girlfriend's family's living costs," Welch said.
"Five million dollars, huh? How much will you take?" Waverly asked.
"Ten percent. That's the amount everyone agreed on in advance. After all, we have a reputation to maintain. If they were to be disloyal or run away or if their employer dies, I'll send the best assassins to hunt them down until they're all dead," Welch said firmly.
"I want him. Recommend a woman next," Waverly said simply and decisively.
Joseph had no objections.
"For women, I have two people to recommend. One of them is Alice. She has an extremely high intelligence and good decision-making abilities. When she was still in Military Intelligence, she married a prince from Selanton. After her task was completed, she was hunted down by Selanton's elite troops. She erased all information about her, including the ones in the Military Intelligence database. Her mother is seriously ill and she needs a payment of 3 million dollars."
"What about the other one?" Waverly asked.
"The other one is Agnes, a citizen of M Country. She was sold when she was young and has gone through rigorous training. As a killer, she went to complete the orders from her superiors. Later, she found out her jobs including immoral deeds and she also found her biological parents as she was carrying out a mission. However, her biological parents died in her hands, so she left the organization. Now she wants money to make up for the mistakes she made. She also wants a high payment of 5 million dollars," Welch introduced.
"I want to meet with these three people first, then I'll decide who to hire. When can you arrange for them to meet me?" Waverly said.
"We'll be available in the afternoon," Welch said.
"I'll leave it to you," Waverly said calmly.
Duff looked over at Joseph and said, "It sounds like her decisions have almost been made."
Joseph just smiled and replied, "What suggestions do you have?"
"I've heard of all three of them, and they are all quite capable and powerful. As for the final decision, I'll leave that up to you," Duff remained on the fence.
"This boar meat tastes good. It has a perfect combination of color, fragrance, taste, and complexity. It's on a different level," Joseph said, naturally changing the topic.
"Since you still have some business with Mr. Duff, I won't bother you anymore. I want to meet these three people now, is that okay?" Waverly asked Joseph.
He stirred the red wine glass, asking meaningfully, "You're not planning to bring me with you?"
