Chapter 972 You're Behaving Irrationally Because You've Been Provoked
"You're behaving irrationally because you've been provoked. You should know that better than anyone else. You've gone rogue now. Even if you can't relax, you should still act according to our plan. I've told you, as long as you and Waverly receive support from the public, there's a chance of the both of you reconciling. If you go over there now, the chances of you two getting back together will become negative. If you die, how will you protect her? Are you going to come back to her as a ghost?" Stella raised her voice at him.
"I can't just sit back and watch while she's in danger. You don't know how much of a hellhole the Mccarthy family's place is. She's only twenty-six, and she should be at the peak of her life! She shouldn't be imprisoned in a dangerous place like that. The thing she fears the most is loneliness. I can't let her continue to stay there, so I have to convince her to leave," retorted Bellamy as he grew even more aggravated.
"That's why we have to plan things out in the long term. You know Waverly better than I do. She looks gentle and easy-going, but in fact, she's quite stubborn and strong-willed. Moreover, no one can move her once she's made up her mind."
"Back then, you didn't even know her. Yet through her perseverance, she managed to get married to you. That enough should show you her tenacity."
"She already has a fixed plan in mind. Even if she were to die in the next second, she would not change. If she could be swayed, she wouldn't have gone back to Country M in the first place."
"Perhaps, Joseph deliberately tortured her to lure you there. Don't forget how Sean got dragged into this mess the first time."
"When that happened, the reason he got imprisoned for only two years was because he had me, Jasper and you.
"If you were to be dragged into her mess, the lightest sentence you would receive is a life sentence.
"Don't even dream of Jasper taking over your position if that happens. Jasper and you are a package. If you were to pass on, it'd be impossible for him to obtain that position. The only person who would take your place is Beckham.
"Once you lose your power, Waverly will be in even more misery because the only protection she had would be gone.
"Only when you stand higher will those people be afraid of you. Only by using Waverly can you guarantee her safety. So, let's be rational now. Tell me, where are you now? Jasper and I will come pick you up," Stella laid out the entire scenario for him rationally.
As he listened to Stella's speech, Bellamy tightly gripped the phone in his hand. The veins on the back of his hand were bulging and his nails were turning white.
He understood where Stella was coming from, but the memory of Waverly putting on a smile to ease him kept reappearing in his mind.
His heart felt like it was being shredded into pieces. He couldn't even muster up a word.
Seeing that Bellamy was staying quiet, Stella knew that he was still debating with himself. Thus, she continued, "Trust me, Bellamy. We'll be able to get her back if we work together. You're being too impulsive now. Our enemy has already set a trap for you, and they're just waiting for you to fall into it. Don't fall for the same trick Sean did, and we'll be able to save Waverly from that place."
Bellamy still stayed silent. He pursed his lips and his whole body trembled in anger.
"You need to know that you have to stay in a stable and high enough position for you and Waverly to get together again. You have to clear all the obstacles in your way, and make sure that no one can threaten you. That way, you can finally bring Waverly home and marry her again. If you deviate from this path, it'll only result in more trouble. If you fall for their tricks, nothing else will work out. You know this better than Jasper and I," Stella reiterated.
"I understand what you're trying to say," Bellamy replied.
Stella was lost. If he really understood, then what else was he waiting for?
"You need to give Waverly and I a peace of mind. When she found out you were heading for M Country, she called me in a panic. As long as she still has feelings for you, there's a possibility of you two reconciling," Stella continued to persuade him, hoping that he would give her a determined answer.
"Tell her that I need a rain check this time," Bellamy was finally behaving rationally.
Hearing his words, Stella breathed a sigh of relief. "Trust me, she'll be glad to hear that. I need to call her back now to ease her mind."
Stella hung up the call and immediately called Waverly.
Waverly picked up the phone with trembling hands.
"Waverly, don't worry. Bellamy's not heading over anymore. If anything else arises in the future, don't hesitate to contact me. Take care," said Stella.
As she heard Stella speak, tears started rolling down her face. Waverly only realized she was crying when she tasted the salty liquid on her lips.
A long, long time ago, she had cursed Stella.
At that time, her heart had ached to see how Bellamy was so protective of her. Her heart had ached when he had given up everything for her. That, combined with a lot of other factors, had made her curse and lash out at Stella.
Truthfully speaking, who was she to say anything about Stella?
Stella was the woman Bellamy loved the most, and was the only woman he loved.
Waverly's words were worthless. With just one sentence, Stella had managed to change Bellamy's mind.
He would not pick up her calls, but he would pick up Stella's right away.
She used to comfort herself with the fact that although she might not be the woman Bellamy loved, she still could be his comrade and journey forward with him.
However, the truth was that she wasn't even worthy of being that.
Stella was Bellamy's pillar and he relied on her for support. Only Stella was qualified to be his comrade and his lover.
She felt wronged and hurt, yet she was unable to muster up even one complaint.
She knew very well that she was no match for Stella. She did not have Stella's beauty, her figure, nor her wisdom and courage.
All she had was a temper and her rash behaviour, both of which were completely useless. Right now, she was walking on the brink of life and death, thinking of how to gain protection.
Perhaps her incompetence, stubbornness and selfishness might cause more trouble to those who wish to protect her.
Maybe Bellamy felt like she was in this position because of him and he wanted to redeem himself.
However, she didn't need him to do that. She really didn't!
Waverly hung up on the call and sobbed her heart out.
When she had gotten beaten up, blinded, nearly killed, she had not even shed a single tear and held it all in instead. As of the moment, she was unable to hold it in any longer, so she let it all out.
Letting all her emotions loose, she cried bitterly without any control. However, the more she cried, the sadder she felt instead.
Hayley looked at Waverly with concern, "Madam, what's wrong? What's wrong with the President? Madam, don't cry. You're crying so much that I feel like crying too."
Waverly continued bawling.
She felt like there was a machine inside her chest that was crushing her heart to smithereens.
Pressing down on her chest, her heart ached so much she wanted to pull it right out and throw it as far away as she could. She continued to cry for a long time until the sky turned dark and she could no longer see around her.
Slowly, she started to calm down. Leaning against the back of her seat, she shut her eyes.
"Madam, what's wrong? Are you alright?" Hayley asked with growing concern in her voice.
With her eyes still shut, Waverly took in a deep breath. After crying for such a long time, she seemed to have used up all her strength. At that moment, she felt that all her tears had merely been a waste of her time.
In a soft voice, she asked Hayley, "Can you drive?"
