Chapter 870 After All, It's Still Separation
"Thank you, Mr. Yaleman," Reuben lifted his head and looked at Eli.
Eli smiled happily, her eyes shaped into crescent moons. She held Sean's arm and said, "Come on, let's go. I've never been to Paris."
She looked at these foreigners as well as their babies curiously.
Their babies were very beautiful. They had fair skin, big eyes, and blond hair. They looked just like a doll.
She even wanted to adopt a baby like this.
Someone came to pick them up as soon as they were out of the airport. Eli was about to get into the car when she heard a gunshot. A bullet was fired and it hit the car door.
Panic flashed across Sean's eyes as he shouted, "Get down."
Eli lay on the ground in confusion, and Sean was laying on top of her, hovering protectively over her.
Outside, gunshots could be heard, loud and clear. Eli's heart tightened as he looked at Sean, scanning his expression.
Didn't he say that they came to Paris to relax?
However, it seemed that he was planning to have Stella's men rescue her instead.
She was angry. She could feel Sean nudging her when she tried to escape from his arms.
"Be careful," Reuben's voice could be heard.
Eli heard another two gunshots. The shot was originally aimed at her forehead, but Reuben had blocked the bullet for her. The bullet passed through his arm, and the other one was fired from a car.
Eli turned around in panic. Sean had shot the driver with a gun in his hand. The driver was also holding a gun.
In that instant, Eli understood.
The driver was targeting her. Fortunately, she managed to get out of the car and was spared.
However, these people couldn't have been Stella's men. They must've been Hodge's men since the driver was planning to murder her.
"Get in the car," Sean said urgently.
Eli could not leave Reuben behind. She ran to him and dragged him into the car. Sean then closed the door after him.
This car was bulletproof, so they were temporarily safe.
"Are you alright?" Eli asked Reuben worriedly.
Reuben's eyes were slightly red. He was touched because Eli did not leave him amid the danger. He was contented. "I'm fine, I'm only shot in the arm. Don't worry."
Eli looked out of the window. Sean had only brought a small group of men with him. There were at least three teams targeting them. It was only a matter of time that they would eventually fall into the enemy's hands.
She knew that she was going to die this time. Strangely, she was not afraid at all.
They would not kill Sean after she was dead. Once she no longer exists, Sean would not have any weaknesses too.
All of a sudden, Eli noticed people coming to them in all directions.
She realized that the tables had turned, "Are those police officers?"
Sean held Eli's hand and said, "Wait for me."
Eli frowned as her eyes flashed with suspicion. With a solemn expression, she asked, "Are those Stella's men?"
At this point, Sean had nothing more to hide. He replied, "They were supposed to intercept us while we were on the way."
"So, you lied to me again, didn't you? We are not actually here to relax, are we?" Eli was visibly agitated.
"There are too many people at home. I don't know who is on our side, so I could only say those words. The situation is very urgent, I'm sorry," Sean apologized.
Eli's eyes were red. She turned her face and looked out of the window.
Their original plan was for her to leave only after her arm had healed.
There was an accident at Brock's house, so they had to bring their plans forward.
She understood that, and she was not going to make a fuss about it.
However, that didn't mean that she did not feel upset about it. After all, she had planned a lot of things she wanted to do with him.
"I would like to take Reuben with me," Eli said, her voice choking.
"No, the enemy will not be able to do anything if you were rescued. However, if Reuben follows you, they would think that you and Reuben are colluding. Reuben's family will definitely be put in danger," Sean said.
"Will Reuben and his family still be safe at this moment? After all, he did take a bullet for me. They won't let him go. It's too dangerous for him to stay with you."
"They would not dare to touch him as long as I'm here. I will protect him because he saved you. Whoever tries to kill him, I'll be sure to kill his whole family," Sean said firmly.
Eli did not have time to contemplate. A group of people had surrounded their car, pointing their guns at the door. All of a sudden, the door was opened.
Sean raised his hands while those people took Eli away and retreated.
Eli could only watch as she and Sean drifted further away from each other. Before she could say her goodbyes, she was taken into the car and soon disappeared from Sean's sight.
The French police soon arrived...
Sean looked at Reuben and asked frankly, "The Yeager family incident was your doing, wasn't it?"
Reuben looked at Sean with surprise.
He was confident that there were no loopholes in his plan. "Why do you think it was me? I was in the villa the whole night."
"They all died from poisoning, so you did not have to go out yourself. You just need to find a way to poison the water they drink," Sean said.
Reuben lowered his head, not bothering to deny it any longer. He said, "Yes, I did it. I saw Brock calling Eli to the woods that day, and he forced her to commit suicide. I have also seen Eli's psychological report. She is incredibly stressed. Eli would not be able to relax as long as Brock was alive."
"You treat her really well," Sean said, his eyes still on Reuben.
The corners of Reuben's mouth twitched, and he replied, "I have a few step-siblings. They were born by my mother and stepfather. So, I was not loved since I was young. I tried my best to enter the royal academy, so I was finally able to free myself from my miserable past. I admired Eli's personality. She would still smile even after she was being forced to the edge."
"How did you do it?" Sean asked.
"I trained a school of pigeons ever since I became a butler. It was actually very easy for me to poison and kill them all," Reuben said.
"What about Brock? Potassium cyanide was detected in his blood. How did you poison him then?" asked Sean, perplexed.
"Brock has a girl that he likes. She is on my side. It's easy for me to get her to poison him. She deliberately slept over that night and waited until midnight before informing Brock's subordinates of his death. They were afraid that Brock's scandal would be exposed, so they sent her away. I gave her enough money for her to live a good life," explained Reuben.
"You do really treat Eli well," said Sean with a sigh.
Reuben smiled wryly. He had so many things to say but did not know whether it was appropriate for him to say them to Sean.
The French police soon surrounded the car, and Sean was taken to the police station to make a statement. Under Sean's arrangement, Reuben was sent to the hospital for treatment.
Hodge called Reuben as soon as he arrived at the hospital. "Reuben, what did you just do? If it weren't for you, Eli would have died!"
Reuben ordered his men to leave the room first before questioning Hodge, "I should be the one asking that question. Did you inform me that you were going to assassinate Eli? Did I agree to it? You made that decision on your own. How would I have known that they were your own men?"
Hodge seemed to have lost his confidence. "Now, Eli has been rescued by Stella's men. What should we do now?"
"Eli wouldn't reveal that it was you who was forcing her to do that. After all, Sean is still in your hands. It wouldn't affect us even though Stella has rescued her."
"I'm only worried that Sean already knows it was our men who did it. He is too intelligent."
