Chapter 1069 Never Thought Of Winning Against You
"Not this again..." Waverly turned her face away.
Bellamy couldn't continue further, so he changed the subject. "What do you want to eat for dinner?"
Waverly thought for a moment and looked at him, saying, "Bellamy, I don't want to stay in the President's Mansion tonight. I will be staying with Yasmine at a hotel. Since I'm going back tomorrow, I have to stay with them, anyway."
"Joseph will also be leaving with Yasmine, right?" Bellamy asked as he frowned.
"Most probably." Waverly smiled. "What's the matter? You felt great to humiliate him just now, but now you are worried?"
"He is extremely arrogant and also extremely rude. His arrogance came from his heart, I can feel it. I really don't like him." Bellamy openly expressed his thoughts.
Waverly shrugged. "Most of the time, he would only be targeting me and wouldn't dare to do anything to me. After all, I have you, my uncle, and Ronaldo to back me up. Don't worry."
"Alright, back to our topic. Where do you want to go for dinner tonight? Or should I ask Marie to make us dinner?" Bellamy continued to ask.
After what happened earlier, Waverly had no appetite at all. Nevertheless, she didn't want to reject Bellamy. "Let's have dinner at Marie's place then. Bellamy, I'm not kidding. There's a secret passage in the President's Mansion. I've received this message and it's confirmed. It should be outside the villa and located in a very secluded place. Neither we nor your sergeants go there very often. You should keep an eye on it."
"Okay," Bellamy replied.
Waverly was worried that Joseph would call her. She did not want to answer his call in front of Bellamy.
She took out her phone, turned it off, and then left it in her bag.
Back at the President's Mansion, Marie was shocked to see them return. She asked, "Didn't you say that you were attending a dinner banquet? Why did you come back all of a sudden? I didn't cook anything. I'll head out now and buy some food."
"Marie, what's left in the refrigerator?" Waverly asked.
"Oh, there's chicken that I bought from the countryside. It's not grain-fed. Last time, I ate half of it and couldn't finish the rest. So I left it in the refrigerator. I brought some vegetables from my home, and there are also some eggs left."
"When you head out, buy some noodles. We'll have chicken noodle soup tonight. I ate a lot of snacks at noon and I'm not hungry. Just cook the chicken in the pressure cooker, it won't take long," Waverly said.
"Okay, I'll go out to buy the noodles now." Marie immediately went out after that.
Waverly took out the chicken from the fridge, defrosted it, and then cut it into two parts. One part was to make the chicken soup in the pressure cooker, and the other to cook with the vegetables.
Bellamy accompanied her in the kitchen and he soon smelled the delicious food aroma. "It suddenly feels like home. I miss your cooking. When I went to M Country previously, I wanted to eat at your place, but I didn't expect an accident to happen."
"Don't risk your life anymore. What would happen if the gun was slightly pointed to the side?" Waverly thought about it and felt a little scared.
"It was worth it," Bellamy said simply and glanced at the pressure cooker. "The chicken soup will need 40 minutes, right?"
"No, 40 minutes will just be enough to cook the chicken. The countryside's chicken is very delicious, but the meat is harder. After cooking it, we will need to stew it with the vegetables for another half an hour," Waverly explained.
"Do you want to watch TV? We haven't finished watching the last show."
"We can't finish it, it's too long. Bellamy, let's play chess. I haven't played with you for a long time."
Bellamy laughed and agreed, "Sure. Should I give you a head start?"
"You don't need to. Just give me more time to think. In the past, I was too impatient and my thoughts were not comprehensive. That's why I always lost to you."
"I'll go get the chess," Bellamy said and then turned around to leave the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Waverly turned down the fire on the stove and went out as well.
Bellamy had already sat down on the sofa. "Black or white?"
"Black," Waverly replied as she habitually sat down on the wool mat in front of the sofa and curled up.
She then made the first move.
Time slipped by during the chess game.
Bellamy realized that although she was much slower than before, her considerations had become more comprehensive. Both of them had been in the game for more than half an hour, and he had not won much for the time being.
"Sir, Madam, I'm back," Marie called out.
She was holding a big plastic bag and approached them, saying, "Besides noodles, I also bought a lot of cooked vegetables. I'll cook the noodles now."
Waverly held a black chess piece as she looked at Marie. "The chicken in the pressure cooker should be ready. It should be stewed in the pot for another half an hour. If there are wolfberries, just add some of it in."
"Okay, there is some in the refrigerator. I'll handle it and let you know when dinner's ready," Marie's voice came from the kitchen.
Waverly trusted Marie and let her takeover. She continued to play the chess.
Another half an hour passed, and Waverly was getting slower and slower. She wanted to evaluate all kinds of steps that Bellamy would possibly take. If she missed one, she might lose the whole game.
"Your skill has improved quite a bit," Bellamy praised.
"The ancient people said that life is like playing a chess game. In my opinion, the way a person plays chess would show their character, whether he acts on impulse or thinks wisely. Whether he cares about the overall situation, or does he rush to conclusions," Waverly replied while placing down a chess piece.
"Your words are getting wiser and wiser. Then, through the chess game, what character do you see in me?" Bellamy asked.
"A plot master. Calm, reserved, skillful, and with ease. You're making way for me on purpose, aren't you? I noticed that you've set a lot of traps, but every time you let me go on purpose." Throughout the game, Waverly had observed his moves and saw through his intentions.
Even so, just as she said, Bellamy was a master in playing the game. The whole game was still in his control.
"The food is ready," Marie called out and served the dishes on the dining table.
"Let's eat," Bellamy said as he stood up.
"Aren't you going to play? You should be winning soon. On the other hand, I've lost everything." Waverly could already predict the result.
"You think that I am making way for you, but it's because I have never wanted to win against you."
"Then, why don't you let me win?" Waverly asked as she stood up, too.
"You have never won against me. If I let you win now, will you believe that you did it all on your own? Besides, you have improved a lot. You deserve compliments," Bellamy said, pulling out a chair for Waverly.
Waverly sat down quietly.
Marie served the noodles and said to Waverly, "It's still very hot. Be careful not to burn yourself."
"Thank you, Marie," Waverly said and then took a bite of the noodles.
The noodles that were cooked in the chicken broth tasted delicious, soft and flavorful. Her appetite was enlightened instantly.
Waverly quietly finished the noodles. Remembering that she had lost a lot of weight, she said to Marie, "Is there more? I still want another serving."
"Certainly, there is. You can eat as much as you want." Marie took the bowl with a smile and went to the kitchen to get some more for Waverly.
"Do you think that the next time you see me, you will notice that I am chubbier than before?" Waverly asked Bellamy.
"When I make calls to you, I'll have to ask you about your weight from time to time so that I can design clothes with the right measurements for you."
"Sure." Then, Waverly ate another bowl of noodles.
In the past, she didn't have much of a big appetite. But on this day, she ate two and a half bowls of noodles. She was so full after dinner.
However, after finishing the meal, it also meant that they were going to part ways.
